Anyone have any info on whats going on? I have friends who live in NYC and I'm really worried sick. Please help!

I'm watching NY1 (Our local news station) I'll let you know when i hear anything real. It hit the 18th-20th floors. It was a helicopter.

EAST 72ND STREET condo building CNN says....they say its not terrorist related....one fatality so far.... they dont know why or where the small plane came from yet!!

**praying**

It's also on CNN and Headline News

72nd & York Ave, - Belaire Condos

Address is 524 East 72 Street, between York and East End Avenues. At least two people are dead. It appears to be an accident.

Thank you for the updates...one of my friends works nearby and I'm concerned. Please keep everyone updated on what you hear. I'm listening to www.msn.com trying to stay informed.

1) I had heard it was a helicopter.
2) It hit the 20th floor of an apartment buidling.
3) Non-terrorist related.

3) Non-terrorist related.

Not saying it WAS terrorist related, but wondering how they know so quickly that it wasn't? I'm watching CNN right now and they don't know who was flying the plane or where it came from...so how can they say it isn't terrorist related?

It was a small airplane.....but there was a helicpoter crash in Key Largo, Fl also. I don't know much about that, just that there was a helicopter crash in FL.

There is a large thread going in the Community Board on this. I'm keeping an eye out there as many NY'ers seem to be updating.

All the information posted above is more or less what is going on. I am W55th st between 6th & 7th Ave and we can hear hustle and bustle (sirens & traffic), but it appears to be an isolated relatively contained issue at this point. Hopefully, for all involved it remains so.

Hoping it doesn't mess up the commute home too much!

It was a small plane, the pilot was one of the 2 fatalities. They don't know if it was a Terrorist incident or not, but even if it was, there are not going to say anything because it would create a panic and they want to keep people calm now at the moment.

It just brings back many sad and bad memories of that day. Let us just pray that it really was an accident. :grouphug:

Seems to have been a small plane owned and possibly occupied by Cory Lidle of the NY Yankees.

Weird... they're reporting that the pilot is (was) a pitcher for the NY Yankees, Corey Lidle. Definately just an accident of some kind, nothing more sinister.

Today was my son's first airplane trip; he went to DC with my husband who travels there for business. He was so nervous. Then he saw this on tv at the airport. Thank goodness he saw it after his flight. I heard it was a helicopter transporting someone to a hospital.

It wasn't a helicopter, but a small aircraft. It was piloted by Cory Lidle of the Yankees. Four people so far are pronounced dead. According to ABC news, it hit the 40th-42nd floors. And it's almost positive that it is not a terrorist attack.

Seeing as Cory Lidle was the pilot, I would probably say it isn't/wasn't (99.9%) a terrorist attack.
Quite a shame though ... I heard it at 5PM and was shocked to say the least.

that's really sad. it definately stirred fear in new yorkers though. I had family die in 9/11 and this hit home hard.

I got home at 3p from getting the kids and the news had broken in with the story. I felt it wasn't a terrorist attack but I called hubby at work (nyc in the 50's), it was too close for comfort so I made him leave. He called 5 minutes later that he was on his way. I was so glad he left, it just brings back too many memories.
