Airmiles WDW Base ticket question

I spent 45 min at guest relations- honestly my head was spinning and my wife and kids were wondering what happened to me! I think I got the best deal I could out of that ticket with the AP upgrade.
If you go to Disney once a year then maybe an AP option may work for you. We just make sure to go less than 365 days from the last trip. Or perhaps just call guest services and explain- maybe they can do something via phone ?

I was living in a world with rose coloured glasses. Your honest post brought me back to the reality I guess I knew existed but wasn't willing to admit. I have grown boys who have been a number of times. We can do the parks one trip without park hoppers. It will mean a little more careful planning on which park which day but I like to do that stuff anyway.

I was toying with the idea of taking my tickets with me and see if I could upgrade them for our 2018 trip but after doing the calculations based on your experience it is way toooo much money for park hoppers and a trip or two to the water parks (7 day PH+ $500- 7 day base $370 (value of tickets)+$40 gate add+ tax) $180 x 5 people ($900) then add the conversion on to that. It's not happening! We can do the water parks once for $300.

the nice thing about the water park option for the Cdn promo if you end up buying them is its only an extra $20 pp to add to the ticket! We went to Typhoon Lagoon this time and had a blast. That $20 gets you to water park each day, for however many days you have your park hopper (vs $60 for one day there at the gate)

The wdw site shows $48 to add the WP option to the Canadian tickets. Was 20 the amount before the price change?

Ok here's a question from someone who has never used AirMiles.

If I get one ticket from Disney (child ticket: Cdn 25% off) and one adult AirMiles 5 day base pass for a 5 night trip, staying onsite (booked through a travel agent):

- How much would I have to pay to upgrade the adult AirMiles ticket to a hopper (but not add any days)? It is so unclear and I am NOT a math person. I apologize as I realize this has probably been covered already. I am not at all sure that I want to upgrade anyway, just curious as to how much it would cost.
- Would we both still get MagicBands etc.?
- Can I link it to my reservation even though it's just a voucher and will it work to do FastPasses for both of us, given that we would have two different types of tickets?

Thanks!

I checked again and to add the water park on top of the park hopper option is still only $19.50 no matter how many days you choose. A very cheap add on in my opinion

1. Unfortunately not a simple answer. Some have reported paying $55 (Canadian discount), others have reported $75 (no discount)and others have reported much more. The people who know over on the Theme Park threads agree there is no one answer to this question at the moment it seems to depend on which CM you ask and how you ask.
2. Since you have a resort reservation you will get Magicbands.
3. You can link the voucher to your MDE to make your fastpass reservations.

Ahh...Ok. Sorry didn't realize you already had the hopper option. Yeah definitely with the $20 extra!

heh, interesting. thank you!

Thank you for the update @martin33 . I have 5 day tickets from airmiles, that I wanted to turn into 7 day tickets. It will not be happening at that cost. I so wish I had just ordered the 7 day tickets. I just wasn't even thinking and assumed I could bridge and add the two days. Sigh :sad2:

This is a 10 day trip and we've been waffling back and forth on what to do. We could stay onsite with free dining, have to add two day tickets for that promo, and just use both sets of tickets. OR we do a room only, use the five day tickets we have, and then move to Universal where we are AP holders for the last three nights. 5 days of tickets just isn't enough for a ten day trip for me.

The airmiles tickets were great back when fast passes were hard tickets you got while in the park. No 60 day planning needed. I remember getting a 3 day AIRMILES park hopper and upgrading to 9 day while in the parks, it cost me about $160, and no loss in terms of ride planning (pre planning didn't exist). I would just consider saving the 5 day tickets for an upgrade when you are actually at the parks, with the idea that you will be using the upgrade on a subsequent trip(assuming you would be going back again). In my experience though, the upgrade was only of value when converting to an AP. I appreciate this may not have appeal for many who simply don't go yearly. I would be interested to hear if anyone else tried to upgrade and had a different experience than I did. Maybe it comes down to the cast member, time of day, weather, moon rise etc...??

I've never found park hoppers to be worth it while at WDW. At Disneyland yes, because the other park is a 3 minute walk across the entrance. In WDW I can't even make it to the bus stop in that amount of time. We just plan our days to be in one park for that day. This trip we had bought the Canadian discounted tickets for 6 days, We had arrived earlier than expected and decided to see what it would be to add 2 more days as it was a little cold to swim arrival day which had been the plan, quick nap and swim. it cost just under $60US to add 2 days to our existing 6 day passes so we did it. $10 /day/person. DH logged on a got us a couple of fast passes for that afternoon evening before we'd even left Disney Springs!

Curious if this $40 gate fee is applied to all transactions? I am intending to convert my 5-day airmile voucher to an AP in January, do I need to factor in a $40 surcharge, and if so, is there anyway to upgrade the voucher online or over the phone?

Most interesting. When were you at Disney that you did the upgrade of the two additional days. Did you purchase your Canadian discounted tickets pre or post Feb 12,2017. Was the upgrade pre or post Feb 12,2017. I may not be giving up hope yet!

No to upgrading your voucher over the phone or online. It must be done in person.

I don't think the $40 gate fee applies to an upgrade to an AP as there is not a price difference on AP's (gate vs online).

I couldn't help but notice that the person that posted adding hoppers on Canadian vouchers for $55 also did it at Disney Springs. Coincidence??

I am at WDW next week and will be asking about adding hoppers to pre 2/11 am tickets and also upgrading to ap. I'll try to remember to ask about adding days as well. Unfortunately, not staying near Disney Springs so it won't be at that location.

Vouchers were bought pre-February and upgraded mid March 2017. This was done at Disney Springs guest services on March 16, 2017.

It isn't actually days I'm ultimately interested in. I want to add Park Hoppers and Water Parks (park hopper+) to 7 day base tickets purchased through AM pre-Canadian discount. I leave to go to Disney in 5 weeks and will take these tickets with me to upgrade them if there is a hope it might work. We're not planning on using these 7 day base tickets this trip.

If you can post back your findings that would be great.

Yes, I definitely will post as soon as I can (likely Wednesday).

I'm asking about adding hoppers so I'll inquire about park hopper+ as well. I have a AM pre-Canadian 5d ticket and an AM pre 2/11 Canadian 5d ticket that I will be working with.

Just a heads up for anyone, I just reassigned an unused AM pre-Canadian ticket, no expiry, originally assigned to my son and moved it to myself. It now has an expiry of 2030.

That's interesting. I ordered Canadian discount tickets at the end of December and had them added to my account. They are not showing any expiry date (that I can see anyway). I'm waiting to assign my 5 seven day base tickets until I find out if I can upgrade them. If it turns out they have to be assigned first I can do that from my hotel room on the computer.
