Airmiles Armchair Chatter

Here's my data point:
  • bought frozen blueberries total cost of $8.00
  • Zehrs
  • offer is spend $5 get 3 miles
  • Put the arrow on the receipt and scanned it
  • App went a little wonky, right back to the scan section
  • Hit the home button and noticed the confetti
  • Checked transactions and see "AM Receipts Blueberries +3"
  • Brand new Samsung phone (That i LOVE!!) running under Android 14

So i tried another phone call (1hr 48 minutes),,,I know,,,, I know.... if nothing I am at least persistent...
They said no they have not locked me out of the system and they opened a ticket ,,it may take time to solve the issue.
So receipt hunting is on hold for me for a few days.
I have received

total of 87 Receipt Airmiles this week.
Plus for my time with them today another 100 Airmiles.
Not 1 of those 87 can be claimed a Receipt Airmiles,,, lol. crazy.

Hi all, please help me because my brain is full and not able to process... Would these 5 things be enough for Shop the Block?

2. Shell 20L, 1 AM (already posted)
3. Dollarama card linked offer, $30 Giftcard (waiting to post)

I love this thread and am trying to learn more about collecting more Airmiles. I just realized that if my husband and I both had our own airmiles accounts (currently we use the same one) that we could earn extra (like for offers like Shop the Block) and then combine/transfer our points. I'm also wondering about a BMO Air Miles credit card as we don't currently have one (but have an RBC Avion card which works well for us). Other than the Welcome Bonus points, am I missing out on a lot of bonus airmiles by not having a BMO Air Miles Credit Card? I would still use our Avion card for most purchases but wondering if the bonus offers (like card linked offers/etc.) with using a BMO Air Miles card should make me consider getting one? Thanks so much! :)

It’s not really a good deal to transfer points between accounts. Unless you do want to combine to only have one account. You have to pay something like $0.15 per AM to transfer to another person. Considering 1AM is worth slightly more than $0.01. Better to just use em separately and both do each promo. If you want.

I got the Free BMO AM Mastercard years ago because my bank for everything is BMO. I earn about 120-200AM a month for my credit card spending so only $10-20 in AM value. It’s my only CC. I earn a lot more from the various promotions, AirMilesShops, Surveys, etc! If you get more with your current CC than you would after converting to AM just stick with it :)

ElCray
Keep the Dollarama offer receipt in a safe place. I know around Christmas time I am forever tossing things out. Dollarama has been in and out as partners with Airmiles lately.
Other than that your list looks great.

I have two AM accounts, one in my name and one in DH name. I do most of my collecting on DH account, it was the first one opened and is Onxy. All of that goes into Dream Miles but I do transfer over to Cash as needed for promos. The second account is one I use for the bigger promos and it is all in Cash miles. That one I use to mostly get gift cards from their selection. I have used it to pay for Via Rail when a group of us went away. It saved me $1000 right there. On this second account I rarely get all 5 offers completed but even getting 3 done it puts a few airmiles in the account to use for the gift cards. Two accounts, for me, is a bonus. As I said, I do concentrate on the first one but I don't ignore the second when there is a good offer.
As for the BMO CC, I would get one if only to have when you get offers. I have a PC MC as my secondary CC that I use for card link offers with AMs for my second account. That means I get to do an easy cardlink for any promotions that come up on my second account. With BMO, there has been an occasion or two where they offer a AM bonus if you use the card so it might be handy to have it. Especially if you do open that second account.
That's just how I do it. It's all pretty much a game and we all play differently. So much fun though.

Yes but do you have to check them at the gate? The whole reason I do carry on is so they don't lose my luggage.
Generally with gate checking you don't have to pay, and your bag is waiting for you when you exit the plane. It's something they do when they run out of space for carry ons in the cabin.

but if you have a carry on that isn't included with your ticket (or it's too big even if carry ons are included with your ticket) it has to go with checked bags, and you pay for it the same as any checked bag.

First, I want to thank everyone who answered all of my Airmiles questions while I was getting back into the program. It really is making this trip possible for us.

I got the return flight through Porter, no problem, with extra fees of $90. But oof  our arrival flight on AC has an extra $354 in fees, the same amount of taxes and fees that the website were included. At first I thought I got it wrong so I backtracked and re-did the reservation but nope....that's a lot of money considering we had airmiles to burn after getting so many of the offers done in the last 2 months.

Is this because we're flying out of Canada or is AC so special that it gets to charge more? I feel like we could have added another day to our trip if the fees are lower with another airline.

It's flying out of Canada and all the fees that go with that. It isn't specific to Air Canada. You'd pay those same fees if you were fllying Porter for the way there.
Thanks! At least I don't feel like I screwed it up.

shocking the difference though....

Now we're saving up for the rental car, which is not a good deal but free is free.

partly right but a few things to be aware of. If they ask at the gate for people to volunteer to check carry ons because the flight is booked, they will give you a tag, you'll leave it just outside the door to the plane BUT it will get sent to the carousel with all of the checked bags. The only things that will make it up to the plane when you land are medical devices (can't comment on strollers it's been decades!)
if your fare didn't include a carry-on bag and you attempt to take it on the plane they will charge you to gate check it for a LOT more than if you paid for that option up front.
We always pay for a fare that includes luggage and easier change/cancelations if need be (good thing when we caught covid and needed to postpone our trip) we take one carryon size up to the gate to use it for "carrying " hubby's heavy briefcase and if they call for volunteers we jump at the chance. Still need to go to get the rest of the checked bags but don't need to fight with overheard storage space.

Need to do the math to see if it's worth paying to get a fare that includes the bags up front and then do the risk assessment surrounding baggage issues. Not a one sized fits all solution.

Welcome to the party BTW, always nice to have new people join the hunt for the elusive miles.

What I do is only book one way flight from the US with points and pay cash for the flight down, at half the points .

Taxes are much less from the US , and usually more flight options.

You may pay the Airmiles booking fee twice though but it usually ends up being less .
