Airmiles Armchair Chatter

Yes you can purchase a GC for $30 at Dollarama using a linked Canadian M/C and it will count as one partner for STB.

Does it have to be a dollarama bc or can it be another shops (idk if they even sell others)
They have the MASSIVE collection of gift cards that all other stores carry, everything from their own (totally defeats the purpose because they regularly have promos that require using a MasterCard) up to Disney. I will try to pick one up that can allow me to double-dip like A-mazon. Other go-to cards for me are anything I know I'm going to want to use within the week, or need for a gift.

Just popping in with a friendly reminder that Airmiles DO NOT EXPIRE! There are reports floating around of phising emails that claim your Airmiles account has been been flagged for fraudulent use and has been closed. I know the knee-jerk reaction to something like this is to immediately click on the provided link to fix things but please don't, EVER!

Use safe internet practices, if you ever get an email from any company saying you need to update payment methods, validate your account details, act immediately to avoid extra charges, ANYTHING that has a link within the email to follow, don't do it!!! Instead, sign into your account directly, check the information yourself and then consider changing passwords.

With the Canada Post strike ongoing the reports of scams of all types are on the rise please be careful.

I will add to this. Whenever I get something that appears to be from somewhere that I deal with…example, Bell. I click forward so that I can see the sender’s email address. If it were in fact from Bell then it would be a bell email not some sketchy looking address with a bunch of letters, numbers and symbols. As soon as I see the weird address it’s an immediate block and delete.

What I do is only book one way flight from the US with points and pay cash for the flight down, at half the points .

Taxes are much less from the US , and usually more flight options.

You may pay the Airmiles booking fee twice though but it usually ends up being less .

I'll look for that next time. The flights down would still have been more than what we paid in fees, but my guess is that won't always be true. I was so shocked at the fees that I literally did check to see what I would have to pay in cash

we had to book separately anyways because there was no way I could get the flight combination we wanted, so we're paying double fees either way

good timing! my husband got an email for his grandmothers acct he had logged into for her (she is not online!) a few years ago. I thought it was odd she had cash miles… think this is fraud too? We didn’t check her card # yet that they listed. It’s odd it didn’t address her by name. Otherwise it looked legit to me 😬IMG_7759.jpeg

Oh now I found this… guess the email is legit?! Well try logging into her account for her the proper way and do something to keep it active I guess!

@osully - that email looks familiar to one i saw online elsewhere that was a phising attempt so you would be smart to access her account directly online. Do not use any of the links provided and even though accounts do go dormant after a length of time i wouldn't trust doing anything with her account. I think this warrants a chat or call on her behalf.

Two questions, just wondering if anyone knows? Is there any way to know what card is linked to you AM account, long story but I have a BMO MasterCard thru my business that I don't really want to use but I have used it in the past for Dollarama but just recently I linked my regular MasterCard (didn't know you could use a non BMO before) but now I don't know if they're both linked or what one to use for the STB promotion?
Also, bought waffles yesterday for the receipt offer but it didn't accept my scan so was going to try again today but the products have now changed - am I too late?

Ok so it ended up being legit - my early morning panic 🤦🏻‍♀️

I logged in for her and she’s going to be pleased about redeeming some stuff / cash!

I believe you have 14 days
"Open the AIR MILES app to snap a photo of your receipt generally within 14 days of the eligible product purchase. Once your purchase has been verified by AIR MILES, you'll see how many Bonus Miles your eligible products earned you."

The BMO question I would actually call Airmiles to discuss,,, it gets complicated with personal use cards that are also designated Business.

hope that helps a bit

There are currently 2 big Airmiles promotions running -1 Shop the Block Dec 4-Dec18 up to 775 Bonus with 5 qualifying purchases and 2 a smaller one Dec 1-31 up to 150 Bonus Miles with 5 qualifying purchases.
If purchase could qualify for either promotion, which promo does it get assigned to if qualified between Dec 4 & Dec 18?
