Airmiles Armchair Chatter

With having an electric car and the offers dwindling, the AM hunt is becoming a thing of the past for me. I’m getting the hang of Scene points and continuing PC Points which are so much easier to get. I wonder what the future is for AM?
Same. And since we live out of town, I'm not inclined to drive for a few AM. I'll stick with the PC points and the cashback credit card (cash back is immediately put in my Vacation Savings each month).

Just a FYI
I have almost run out of Kleenex tissues,,,, Struggling with an upper respiratory infection here.
Good buy at No Frills tomorrow

I shall drive over there and send my son in to stock up.

If you are closer to a Real Canadian Superstore, he can also price match there. Max 4 packages. Feel better soon!

I'm in the same boat. I got a PHEV a couple of years ago and only buy gas twice a year. My husband just got a full electric vehicle so gas usage here is going to be basically zero. Add to that the very few places on Vancouver Island where I can get AM and my AM collecting has been really low the last few years. I even dropped to Gold this year! :(

don't have the time to dig into the details of this ... came in an email but I saw it on the app earlier today.

looks like you can do it 3 times if you time it correctly ? No car wash in our area, but maybe others can make use of this!

I’m mostly ordering from Walmart grocery delivery or Superstore with their PC Express. I signed up for an annual membership for $99+tax and will get $75 in PC Optimum points back. I think the offer ends Feb 28. I love that PC Express packs your order in the cardboard boxes they have on hand already… Walmart is so wasteful. And I also like the loyalty program points earned or discount on certain things. Walmart has coupons now but no points program.

I don’t drive and we have a young kid so grocery shopping in person isn’t convenient at all!

Airmiles is very slow for me this year… No way I’d earn 5K / Onyx again!

So here's a fun one...

I have no illusions that I'm a learn the hard way kind person. Well, seems DD is following in my footsteps. Her contract will finish in a month from now and she wanted to start packing. I can't for the life of me figure out how she has as much stuff as she does. We brought home a lot of her stuff when we were on the ship....she had things she had not worn or used and asked me to bring an extra bag to bring it home with us. I filled 75% of a checked bag with her clothes. Anyway, she told me a couple of weeks ago that she was probably going to have to mail a box of her things home. Otherwise she would likely have two overweight bags and the company was not paying anything for her bags this time, even though it's in her contract. So off she went last weekend to send 20lbs worth of clothing and other items....there is a giant Squishmellow that a friend gave her for Christmas. She went to UPS ....misunderstood UPS vs USPS. It cost her $95USD including the box and tape. Not sure why but I was surprised they charged for that. I clued in to the mistake when she said the box would arrive to me in 4 days. This morning when I looked at the tracking (my front is really wet from the dripping deathsicles...I didn't want the box sitting out for long) I see that there is a balance due prior to delivery of $59CAD. I called UPS to find out that they are charging an import and brokerage fee. I explained what the box was and the lady went to check it out. She says the box is labeled as a 'gift' and that Canada imposes an import fee on brand new items. Again, I tell her that it's not new items, it's used clothing and personal items that would not fit in a suitcase. I also explained that the person at UPS that accepted the package did not know how to process an international package and had to make several phone calls for help. This is likely an error on their end. So end result my wallet is not $59 lighter as there was nothing they could/would do. UPS has refused to forward a copy of the invoice which leaves me with no recourse. The lady I spoke to told me to go back to the UPS office that accepted the package. I then reminded her that the office is in Florida and I'm in Canada.
So this has become a mighty expensive package. DD also had to pay for an Uber to/from UPS as well. I think at this point it would have been cheaper and easier to pay the overweight bag fees.

Oh ya and....before Christmas they were all asked to submit their preferences for their flights home. DD asked for the earliest flight available and gave two options. She was also asked if she was willing to pay extra and how much to get one of those flights. She said yes $100. Well, didn't they book her on the last flight of the night because the earlier flights would have been an additional $130. OMG....could they not have gotten back to her and given the option to pay the extra $30???? She is absolutely livid as she will now have to sit in the airport for 12+ hours.

I have not checked the eVoucher section for a little while but I did this morning and I see they have added WestJet as a partner of vouchers.

I am loving this system

I was thinking I might try and get enough Air Miles to use a RedTag voucher for next year's winter to do an all inclusive or at least reduce the cost but they all seem super expensive.

But ,,, But,,, it doesn't taste like coffee??????
It tastes like hot water ,,,wait,, I have no taste buds!
Seriously they (tastebuds) just better be on holidays.

Hugs Mel
Fingers crossed you don't end up in the phase that I spent about 3 days dealing with - things tasted almost like dirty pennies! So odd, not really a taste persay but that was an underlying delight before it was like eating wet cardboard. Some things tasted rancid - I already hate a bunch of my safe foods but for almost a month I had to force myself to eat anything.

It came back slowly, not as fast as it left, just noticed a little more "life" to food, then I could smell it and finally tasted again. Make sure you rest and drink lots!
