Airmiles Armchair Chatter

What I have done at Dollarama with the GC's is to pick up a Disney GC. It's activated at the cash. I drive home and transfer the amount to an existing GC I have on the Disney Gift Card sight. If there is an issue (which there hasn't been) I know about it immediately. You could do the same thing with a Starbucks GC, probably Timmies as well.

Can anyone refresh me on a Flash Metro / Shell offer for 200 Airmiles?

I hope I am still going to get 300 for the current one which ends on the 24th but got this posting in my account this morning?

Genius!!!!! OMG...why didn't I think of that!!!!

It has also been reported about the gc from Dollarama being tampered with and some have been not working. But that is a darn good idea!!!!
Well, so far so good, I’ve used the Tim’s GC’s for these offers twice and both worked fine. Hopefully that continues.

Yup, with the Tim’s gift card I load it to the app so would know right away if there was an issue.

I haven't heard any stories specific to Dollarama but GC tampering has been an ongoing thing for a long while. Best practice is to take a card from the back of the pile. Then check the bar code. If it has been tampered with you will find a sticker has been applied over the original bar code. In some cases the sticker is not obvious but if you run your finger along the edges you will feel the little bump.

What the scammers do is attach a new bar code over top so that the card is activated to an account that they can access. They drain the card almost immediately and the purchaser is left with no money on the card and nothing they can do about it.

I would tend to think that Disney cards are very low risk as it's not funds that are overly attractive to your average scammer. They want things like gas, food, amazon. Things that they can either use, trade or sell. You would actually be surprised at the trade/bartering that goes on among the criminal types.

We starting visiting WDW for our delayed honeymoon in 2007 and have tried to go every 2-3 years. But we always want to go longer, do more, etc. than in the last trip. However, thanks in large part to some of the awesome planning I see on this thread, I have recently wondered: What if instead of waiting years and then going for longer... we went more often, but did shorter trips? Any tips on changing the mind set from "make sure we can do everything on the trip" to "lets do some things now and some things next time - since we'll be back in only a year or so"? Thanks and Happy Sunday!

Happy Sunday Kimbert
My mindset change happened after the death of my younger middle brother a few years ago.
I realized all the special memories I had shared were in part due to his
"Life Is Short,
Explore Today" attitude.

I have gone from planning 10 to 14 days (sometimes 3 weeks) ,,,to then planning 5 to 7 day trips.
I now enjoy the 5 days ones the best.
I plan out each day and have fun.
I am trying to slip a couple of trips in a year now that I am only doing supply work.
It certainly breaks up the cold winter months for me.

Have fun dreaming and planning.
Hugs Mel

Mel,
Sorry to hear the reason was the passing of your brother. I'm so glad he inspired you though! He had a great attitude and it certainly makes you think.

Thank you for your perspective. We are thinking of a Sun-Saturday trip (which will be 5 days in the world, and we think this will be a nice amount. 1 park per day and 1 rest/springs/shopping day.

Noticed the AirMiles Receipts banner on the app so I guess it’s available to more areas now? Thought I’d give it a whirl and see what happens. I scanned my Costco receipt from yesterday since I bought cucumbers which are one of the items for miles. Says “pending” now.

Is this something new? I have an AM MasterCard which I use at Costco but I don’t know of any other way to earn airmiles.

LOL…we visit 1-3 times a year or more if possible. I will never think that less days more often is better. We have done many 10-14 day trips and those still rank as the best. This year I’ve done 3 short trips and maybe one more in November….things are a bit different his year though, DD is a CM.
Have been going regularly for over 15 years. We gave up on the ‘do it all’ mentality many years back. My basic thought on that is WDW will always be there so no need to try and do it all. One thing with us is that we just enjoy being on property and have done trips that we either don’t do parks at all or maybe just one day at MK. We are happy to resort hop and dine and lay by the pool. That comes after going park commando many times. After a while you want to see the other parts. I have to say that this year has also been a very different experience. Having free access to the parks really changes how your time is spent. We didn’t care how much we fit in or didn’t fit in. We didn’t care if we stayed all day or only an hour. It was actually very relaxing.

I saw it on the AM app home page. When you click it it lists some grocery products and you upload a picture of your receipt from any major grocery store and if you bought any of the listed items, you get the AM it says for it. Does not have to be an AM sponsor or paid by MasterCard.
This is my first time trying. I am expecting 3 AM for the cucumbers I bought at Costco.

5 day trips are my favorite length. I'm a go, go, go person when I holiday and that's about the length of time it takes me to burn out.

That seems like a lot of airmiles, about $45 more worth than buying it from UCT, and nonrefundable. I love using AM for things like tickets, it's like they are free. I can't answer about whether the AM ticket would be usable at a later date, I don't think Universal works that way like Disney would. In this case I'd probably see if there is something else I could use the AM for and pay for the ticket. Unless I was positive on the date.

Yeah I am not positive on the date. It does seem like a lot of Airmiles for a base ticket that is nonrefundable.
With all the viruses going around I am trying to play the planning of this next trip all refundable.
I think I'll go with Under Cover's 365 day refundable.
Thanks Hon
Hugs Mel
