Airmiles Armchair Chatter

Have you paid for the room yet? That's what I picked mine up for - bought a $500 one today for the deposit on one room and getting another one for the 2nd reservation.
I actually have. I paid with the gift cards I bought using the Metro/BMO offer. I don't usually go this far down the rabbit hole with the gift cards but the trip was soooo close and the AMs were soooo enticing, I just couldn't resist.
To add to the matter, I just remembered that the youngest also gave us Disney gift cards for our anniversary last month which are already packed and ready to go in my travel wallet.
Sigh, the things I go through....🤣

Did you prepay your onboard gratuities? What about things you might spend on while onboard?

Also, remember you are spending in USD so your $1500 is a lot less. I just helped you spend that money :thumbsup2

I did prepay gratuities. Anything that could be paid ahead was because I like going in not worrying about what needs to be done. I also think I have at least one of everything being sold onboard, lol. I don't drink that much but I will do a cocktail every now and then, might have to up my game there :drinking1
And you are correct! After conversion it's not as much as I think so probably doable. Thank you for that reminder.
All in all, we will just splurge a bit more than we normally do.

Oooooooo I've got it .....book yourself a really nice dinner at WDW. You were gifted money and that to me screams SPLURGE! You are supposed to do something special with that money.
I have Homecomin booked, been wanting to try that but not been able to get reservations till now. Trying to get Ohana but that one is a hard one to get as well, fingers crossed. Also looking for Space 220 as we really enjoyed that, it's another one very hard to get.
We are not big on fancy dinners so most signature places, like Victoria and Alberts, are out. Doing brunch at Palo but we are Platinum so that is covered.
Isn't this a good problem to have, to much spending money? Lol.

What about Remy? Does platinum allow multiple visits to Palo or would you pay for repeats? The only meal we loved was Palo dinner. We did that on our first night so that we would have the option to go again if we wanted....but also DD was given that night off and had permission to join us.

I love Ohana and it showed up multiple time when we were down last month. V&A I would never do. If you like steak have a look at Yachtsman. Also, the Swalphin restaurants are very good....and easy to get in.

I have something posted I didn't know was coming. It's only 4 AMs but it's a surprise. The explanation is ONYX METRO MULTIPLIER. Anyone know anything about this offer? Is it a permanate thing?
I also did one of the surveys this morning for 6 AMs and it has posted already! That is impressive. When I was doing their surveys in the past, long long ago, they took a few days to post.

Air Canada knowledgable people I need your help.

I'm booked on a flight YOW to YWG tomorrow morning 9:25am. I checked in at exactly 24hrs. No seats available. There are 3 showing on the seat map in business. Apparently after checking the app I am #4 on the Standby list. Upgrade list says there are 4 seats available in business.

If I can't get on that flight there is one which is direct tomorrow morning at 5:30am gets in at 7:30am. Not my first choice but I would rather get up and go and be there early than rushing about trying to get there later. There is a flight that leaves 40 minutes later than my original booking, goes through Toronto and gets me to Winnipeg mid afternoon.

Do I call Air Canada and get them to change my flight (at no cost) or do I wing it and see what happens? There are 6 people on the standby list. Why would they overbook by so many people on a small plane? Or am I likely to be ok?

edit to add: I applied for an Aeroplan card. Attached the number to my booking and I went from #4 on the standby list to #1.

No more worries I will make the flight. Thought I would post that last bit as it may make a difference to someone someday. There is an odd hierarchy to how they place people on the list.

I don't think it's that one as my multiplier amount was 68AM. My Metro/AM offers were earn 1 get 95AM and they posted a week ago or so. Still a mystery.

We are 5 onyx collectors and all shop at Metro (me 4 cards, son 1). The cards I shop all received 100 airmiles, son received nothing and he shops there more than I do (it's practically across the street for him).

So .... no idea lol.

All flights are over sold by approx 20%...it's an industry standard.
Did you qualify for a standby ticket or are you full fare passenger? Going with the full fare scenario, you should not have been standby checking in right at the 24hr mark. Oversells are going to end up being those that did not check in early.

Story time.....
Went to Metro to get some steaks that were on sale. I think they are having some supply chain issues. This is the second week in a row that they have run out of something and not sure if the were getting more. Anyway, had to wait 20 minutes while they cut the last piece they had. OMG, people lined up to get it and when it came out the people at the back of the line jumped forward and started grabbing. I got too large packages that were close to $45 so that plus the few other things I had was over $80. At that point I figured might as well try for the $100 (95 bonus AM on that). Here's the real fun part. I go through the cash and I'm thinking that I'm right at the $100 but have selected a chocolate bar if I didn't make it. The screen says subtotal $100.54 so I'm thinking that is great. After I pay I look at the receipt and it's $100.54 AFTER tax....the sub was 98.79. I'm thinking not today! I go to customer service to explain and ask if there is anyway to fix it. Really nice young girl and guy say 'we can just refund you, no big deal'. The refund came out to a higher amount which then took 15 minutes to get to corrected. So that was fun. I'm really hoping that I still get the AM credit from the original purchase :rolleyes1 cuz all total would work out to be a nice amount with the 30X.

Then....I go to Shell, get gas, and go inside for a Timmies. Some young guy tells me that he thinks I'm "very beautiful". Now if I left it there it's a nice little story.
He was wearing tall black dress socks with his toes hanging over the end of his too big, white slides (I DETEST the socks with slides thing), had a neck/face tattoo and I think he was missing a tooth. :rotfl2:

For anyone interested, I just saw a post on FB about an 800 number for Disney.

1-888-701-4100 Option 4

I was skeptical so I gave it a try. It works, takes you to 'Welcome to Walt Disney Resorts'. Apparently you can get any department with this number. So, if you are like me and find you wish there was an 800 number, you're welcome. :)

Correct,,this is the AP holder number,,,but pressing 4 gets you to "all other questions"
Thank you both so much for this number! I just spent 25 minutes booking our spontaneous birthday trip and we no longer have long distance calling on any of our phones. Cut the cord on the landline finally and it had free US calling.

Went out and bought 2 more $500 gift cards at 2 different Dollaramas (they get a little twitched with the amount of time it takes to do one, meh we have 5 in town!) Then stupidly didn't just combine the 2 of them onto one card but added one to the partial amount left after booking POP for the first part of the stay and you can only have a max of $1,000 on a card at a time ooopsie! Called in to get the 2nd reservation completed, now the trip is set to go and the countdown is on!

Ended up just paying cash for the flights because I don't want to be paying tax twice, that's beyond annoying to me ( i find it a TAD sketchy too) Porter down and WestJet home. We're going strictly with carry-ons and I'm already freaking out over that, my goodness one was full of food last trip.

Well, my window shopping trip was a bust. Just as well as I really don't have any money for clothes right now. Although, I am definitely going to be buy these sun visors from LuLu for our Punta Cana trip in April:

I tried it on in-store and the bill is wide and will be great in the pools. Hats look ridiculous on me, so these are a good compromise...and cuter.

I have a Standard Economy ticket booked through Airmiles. I was on the app right at the 24hr mark. A lot of the flight seats had already been "selected" in advance of the 24 hours "free" selection. I didn't care where I sat on the plane so I didn't pay extra to pre-select my seat. I should mention my sister who has Aeroplan and booked a "Basic" seat had her seat assigned when she checked in after me. She did book direct with Air Canada though.

Interesting to know that 20% are routinely overbooked. I did sign up for a Aeroplan card and added it to my reservation. I'm now #1 on the standby list and there are 4 seats in Business and 2 premium seats in Economy. I'll get something.

Just to check re: Dollarama

Does the gift card miles work if you have just a regular Mastercard and not a BMO one?

My airmiles collection has basically ground to a halt ever since Thrifty Foods switched to Scene+ so now I am just trying to get a few more cash miles for Starbucks gift cards and if I can get some by buying Disney gift cards then I will go grab some.

It is really sad, I used to get a fair amount of AM from Rexall, Shell, and Thrifty Foods since those were basically my only real options here on Vancouver Island. First Rexall changed to their own rewards, then I bought a plug in hybrid vehicle that I only fill with gas every 6 months, and then finally Thrifty’s changed as well.

I went from always getting Onyx every year to now only collecting a few hundred a year at most.

So, if the gift card offer works at Dollarama with a regular Mastercard then I am happy to go buy a few!

Hi Aladora
Yes
So you just have to make sure your non BMO Master card is linked to your Airmiles Card.
Then spend 30$ at Dollarama ,,,,, you will get 10 base Airmiles for this.
Then because it the 30X weekend you will get 10 x 30 = 300 Airmiles for your shop.

For the 30X the max you can earn this weekend is 500 per collector card

I bought 2 $15 McDonalds cards on mine (RBC Mastercard).

Hope that helps

PS the 30 x ends today I believe. Yep checked and it's the 27th.
Get shopping

PSS
I am going from Onyx to gold and possibly Blue this year,,,
But I am doing ok with the new Scene program so far.
