Well, I am in the proces of planning our May trip. I just looked at airfare prices from Dallas to Orlando and they are nearly $300!! Last year I think I paid $120 round trip! I hope these prices come down or I may have to sneak my children through with the luggage!

That is the exact reason we drove last month instead of flying!!

The airlines wonder why people aren't flying...it's because the prices are so much more than they were last year:(

I just checked Hotwire and they have airfare Dallas to Orlando in March for $233.00. With Hotwire that price includes all taxes and airport charges also. I have used them several times and have never had a problem. Hope this helps.

hate to say it, 300 round trip a seat has been normal, and in my planning budget for a few years now (yes years, those pennies dont add up that fast in Oklahoma, I do take donations..=D)

Apparently you got off easy last yr.

I agree Dagny...we are seriously thinking of driving once again...It is just so expensive!

I have flown my family down at least once the last 4 years and have never paid over $150.00 pp RT NS DFW/MCO.
2 years ago we got $112.00 pp and this was booked pre 9/11!
In Dec we paid ~$150.00 pp. That is the most we have ever paid.
I keep Fare Watcher up and you are right airfare stinks now. Just 2 months ago there was a $74.00 RT airfare from DFW/MCO. Yep, not a typo $74.00!!!!! The catch was it was on United and you had to switch planes at O'Hare. DH would not go for it.
We are going back in July (Hey, can't be any worse than staying in the metroplex for the same 2 weeks melting here) and we are driving for the first time. Airfare does not seem to be budging.
Good Luck!

I just tried HotWire to see what they could offer. The fares were competitive, but I don't think I could use them, because they won't let you pick your flight times or carrier. I have the same dilemma here in NJ. Last year our flights were $175, this year they are anywhere from $200 to $300! I could fly out of Philadelphia or Atlantic City, and I do not want to drive. Good luck in your search.

Geez, I got Omaha to MCO for next week for $212 (total) pp RT (Northwest -- I bought the tickets 3 - 4 months ago?)
Maybe later the rates will be better for you. ?
I bought my tickets when I did because I was concerned if we went to war the fuel prices would be too expensive to consider.
Last October I lucked out and bought RT pp $138 total from Omaha to MCO. That was pretty much the only reason we went in October. I couldn't pass up that price for RT flying! ;)
Sign up for Travelocity Farewatcher. It has helped me!
I once used hotwire.com for a car rental in southern CA. It saved me a lot.

I am leaving in 4 days~~

I got my room and airline though priceline's vacation package

...for 2 adult and 6 days from DFW to MCO (AA non-stop)

at courdyard in DD for 478~~

...I know it's not actually disney prop.

..but i was CP for 6mon and just wanna to return for couple days

it is not far from the park and i can walk to DD less than 10 mins

and I wanna save more money for food and other stuff~~

but i did order the package 4months ago~~

..I think the price is almost 300 more for the

same date and same hotel now(also though priceline)...

so ~~~do make it as early as possible!!!

for the transportation...

I am gonna use dollors rental for one day one way

for 32+tax=44.XX

it is a little bit higher than shuttle

...but we get to go to store to buy water and food

and get most of shopping done in first day~~

...(dollors is the only one doesn't charge the one way fee plus
I can return the car in my hotel others do charge form 30~50)

for food ~~I order some vouchers both Q&C and VK

...I will back for more details of what and which restaurant I use

for...

(should post in budget or restaurant board??)

I checked out hotwire, but I refuse to have a connecting flight. I have a three year old who can't stand to sit still for 5 minutes let alone 2 1/2 hours. I can't imagine trying to do a connecting flight.... I may be flying another way.. out the window ;)

Barb, I have signed up for expedia and travelocity's fare watcher. I will keep my fingers crossed...for ALL of us :D

Has anyone signed up for Southwest's email? There are many great fares there. Their fares do not show up anywhere except on their website.
There is some restriction about Texas, but, I have never figured that one out.
Perhaps this will work for some of you.

Another suggestion:

Do you belong to a warehouse discount club (Sam's, BJ's, etc)? We belong to Sam's. I just checked their prices for flights and they're offering RT from Phila to MCO for $150.25 nonstop. Don't know about TX, but if you belong to a wholesale club, check out their travel deals. I think I'm going to book Sam's within the next day or so. We also belong to AAA. While their rates are good, they charge a $100 booking fee for members (I checked online, maybe I'll call my local office to check prices also). I've checked all local major airlines, Expedia, Travelocity, Orbitz, and several others I can't remember. Sam's had the best prices so far. We're going in June, so I have plenty of time, but I don't want to wait too long. I also refuse to change flights. It only takes 2 1/2 hours to get to Orlando from Philly. I refuse to drag it into 2 extra hours and another airport. Good luck!

We booked in October from NY/JFK to MCO and the airfare by leaving a day earlier at night (only pulling the kids out of school for one day) was $345 total per person compared to the following day when Continentals air was $1200 a person. We are going during President's week - so I booked on the 13th instead of the 14th and leaving on a 7PM flight.

That worked better for us.

Also, try calling the airlines. Get their 800 numbers and call after midnight since that is when the 24 or 48 hr. cancellations are done. You have a good chance of snagging a seat then.

We are booked for this Saturday, 01/11/03 from EWR to MCO on Continental Non-Stop for $195 r/t. I thought it was a little high, but there was nothing better out there for the month we needed to travel.

Be sure to sign up for the weekly email specials from any airlines that fly from your city to Orlando. We booked our trip in APril, then waited and finally got a great deal on air in October. ATA, Indy to Orlando, non-stop, $439.50 total for 3! Yippee!

Be patient and good luck!
