Hi all,

I've heard that some airlines have check-in desks at Port Canavera. Can anyone tell me which airlines, where they're located and how that works?

Thanks!

 Not going til April 2004....sigh.

The airlines that offer luggage check-in at the port are American, Continental, Delta, Northwest, and US Airways. The check-in desks are located outside the terminal (to the left as you exit the luggage pick-up area), next to where the DCL buses load.

You can actually complete the whole check-in process with the airlines at the port. The airline reps will check your luggage (to be transported to MCO via truck) and issue your boarding passes. Once at the airport, all you need to do is get through the security lines and you're ready to board!

I found this to be incredibly convenient after our Magic cruise back in February. We didn't have to drag our luggage back to the airport, and didn't have to worry about the check-in lines there either. Hopefully the airlines keep offering this great service!

Do you have to be with DCL transportation? I have a car service, but would love to use the port check-in ....

Do you have to be with DCL transportation?
Nope! We rented a car in both directions, so after we debarked the ship, we picked up our luggage in the terminal, checked in with Continental, then hopped on the Avis shuttle to pick up the car. Painless!

We just did this last Saturday. Very convenient. We didn't use the DCL buses this time, had FL Tours picking us up. As mentioned above, saves the hassle of having to transport bags and check in long line at airport. We flew American and on one was in line...but we did notice long lines at the Port for Delta luggage check in. Probably because DCL uses them for package deals.

Is United at the port, also?
Unfortunately, American, Continental, Delta, Northwest, and US Airways are the only airlines who offer this service at the DCL terminal at this time. From what I understand, this is a service provided by the airlines, and I believe United used to have a place at the port in the past. I guess United decided there wasn't enough business coming off the DCL ships to warrant having 2+ people staffing their desk at the port 3 times a week.

I guess it's just something to keep in mind when making air reservations! We flew Continental because it was the best flights (combo of price and flight times) we could find at the time we wanted to buy tickets. While I would not recommend Continental to anyone (changed planes/seat plans without telling us, even when we checked the night before, and our seats disappeared, very rude ticket agent offered no help), it was very nice to be able to check our luggage at the port.
