I'm going next month, so mid-Feb., and bought my tickets at the beginning of December. Newark to Honolulu direct for under $450... yes, that's round trip! Not looking forward to the 10 hour flight but sure can't argue with the price :goodvibes

That's a great price! Glad I didn't see the fare cause I may have booked it lol

Yep, you want to give the whole thing plenty of time if you book your own segments - like flying into San Franscico in the morning, spending the night and catching a flight out the next day,.

The hotel might eat up the savings, but an evening in Seattle or San Francisco isn't a horrible way to start or end a vacation.

This is what we have done in the past and we do it to break up the loooong flight but also to help with jet lag on the way back. Priceline has some great options for bidding at LAX and they are right there, you can just hop on a shuttle and the prices are very cheap. I think we paid something insane like 70 bucks for the LAX Sheraton and it was such an amazing way to go as you are refreshed and ready to enjoy Hawaii from the minute you step off the plane!

We made our 1st trip to Hawaii last September, we went to Maui and Big Island plus stayed at Aulani on Oahu.
We signed up for Beat of Hawaii and it was very helpful.

I used Kayak to keep informed of airfares. We booked connecting flights from Milwaukee-Denver-Las Vegas and then caught Hawaiian Air over to Maui (and we used Hawaiian Air for all inter-island and back to California.

If you have the chance to fly Hawaiian Air, by all means do it. Their service is outstanding! Prices are very competitive. I agree with some of the other posters about possibly flying to the west coast, do an overnight stopover and then fly over to the islands (That's what we did on the way back.... had to go to Disneyland...)

just keep checking fares, I'm sure you'll find something that is great.
Aloha .... p.s. Aulani is amazing!!!

I am jealous of the great airfares you are getting. We live in Atlanta and Delta is the only carrier with a direct flight to Honolulu. Right now, the fares I want are almost $1,600! We are flying end of June/first week of July. It was about $1,200 right around Christmas and I didn't book it. I am regretting that decision right now. We are flying to the Big Island for a few days and then back to Oahu.

Where are you flying from?

Hawaiian Airlines does have a direct flight from JFK to HNL. Just did a search for March 5-12 RT for $520 :thumbsup2

RT from HNL to JFK I've seen for $430. :scared1: Crazy cheap!

I just booked my airfare for June as I was seeing alot of flights already full. Obviously this is a busy time to travel with children being out of school.

I am happy I got it out the way as now I feel I can really start planning:cool1:
