Does anyone know a ball park figure for the flight to Barcelona, Spain out of Virginia?

Another concern for us is the flight time being that we are traveling with 2 children. Any idea on the hours in the air?

I'm just trying to figure all this out so that I can make a final decision before tomorrow morning.

Any guidance anyone can offer will be greatly appreciated.

Go to a travel site like expedia or travelocity and get a quote on flights from VA to spain.....put in a date for this year to get a ballpark figure of what it might be like next year.

It takes 9 and a half hours to get from the uk to wdw, if that helps. ;)

Hmmmmm hours in the air.... This is just an estimate, but it took about 9 hours to Paris and 9 and a half to Rome (from New York)....sooo I think most of Western Europe should be in that ballpark somewhere.....

Went to the expedia site as suggested. May I suggest to all of you that are considering this venture to do this BEFORE booking Med. cruise tomorrow. You just might get your pants shocked off.

Hours in Air = 13 to 16 hours, depending on which flight I chose

Cost of Flight = ranged from $1250 to $1600 per person.

It would cost a family of four over $5,000 for airfare alone.

My hat is off to any of you that have that to spare next summer, in addition to the cost of the cruise.

Another important factor is to look up the summer climates there. Not pleasant.

After reviewing the costs involved, there will be one more cabin available for the rest of you. :wave2:

Have just looked at the web site and I do not think you can get to Barcelona direct flight - Have just done a quick search and Newark to Barcelona goes via Heathrow and total flight time is 12 hrs.15 minutes. That was a BA flight.

It is because i do not think they do direct from USA that I was somewhat surprised that Disney chose Barcelona rather than Rome.

To get best prices you need to reserve 11 months ahead of time.

You may get better deals goiung via Gatwick perhaps - just a thought.
Virgin do some good flights and are very child friendly to Gatwick and then a small 2 hour hop to Barcelona.

Delta has a daily direct flight from Atlanta (ATL) to Barcelona (BCN), 9 hours eastbound, 10 hours westbound.

Price ... depends on the time of year ... anywhere from $700 to $1200 I would guess.

It is virtually impossible to find out what the fare is going to be next June as it is too early to book and the closer you get to the date the more expensive it gets.

Incidentally, weather in the med in summer is usually very good.

Another thing you can do is try to play around with your plans abit. When I looked at flying from the west coast to Barcelona it was scary (both for price and time). But then thought we can fly direct to London for a decent price, take the train to Paris (DLP!!) and then on to Barcelona (probably fly - I saw prices for around $113 I think)

I've looked at dozens of flights over the past two weeks. We are coming from California, so it is a very long trip with a 4 year old. We are looking at several scenarios flying from CA (LAX) - FL (MCO) - WDW for two days then transatlantic fly back from Barcelona (BCN) It is cheaper to go to Wash. Dulles or NY for a stop over, but not as much fun. Air France is the best deal by a thousand dollars. R/T LAX to Barcelona, I've found rates from $279 - $300pp. - not much different from MCO to BCN. I haven't found any daytime flights however to BCN. We are not interested in flying overnight with a 4 year old. So, it is frustrating. US Air is the most expensive by far. I was shocked at the differences.

We flew Air France from Paris to St. Maarten a couple of years ago and would never use them again even if they were cheaper.

It IS difficult to find any flights to Europe during the day. I know of ONE flight on American from Chicago that leaves at 9 a.m. and arrives at London Heathrow at 10 p.m. On the other hand, the good news about flying overnight is that the time will seem to go by more quickly.

I am fortunate in that my DH has lots of frequent-flyer miles, so we've used those for our trips to Europe. However, I am not planning on cruising to the Mediterranean with DCL - primarily because I don't want to go in the summer when it's hot and crowded.

I am unable to pull this flight up...even when I specify non-stop flights only. Not saying you're wrong, but are you sure it's from Atlanta? Maybe I am just computer challenged (a distinct possibility).

We are from Michigan and its been a couple of years since we flew to BCN but at the time (and I think still) there were NO direct flights for us. Our choices were fly to NYC (JFK) and switch planes to BCN direct or fly to London Heathrow and switch planes. We chose Heathrow. But we only had about a 45 min-1 hour layover and even with an ontime flight we were cutting it really close, had to go through security and take a bus to another terminal - took awhile despite how efficient the Heathrow airport security was. In hindsight, I would fly direct from NYC. The nice thing is it was no problem finding a flight that left around 5 or 6 pm. From NYC its an 8 hour flight there so you get there about 7am or 8am. We slept on the plane, with our one stop we got in around 11 am. Is is a long flight and sleep on a plane isnt great sleep so we took a nap after checking into the hotel. We considered that day one for rest. We got up the next day and did a tour. We boarded the ship the following day.

Just a thought that Virgin fly direct from Las Vegas and also Los Angeles to Heathrow overnight as do British Airways and it would then be easy to get the short hop to Barcelona.

Have just looked on Delta site and they do fly direct to Barcelona.
Leaves tlanta at 8.05 p.m. and arrives 11.05am next day 9 hours and returns 1.05 p.m. and gets back to atlanta at 5..15.pm.

You can find affordable air but you need to search often and be prepared to book early. When I started planning our upcoming Med cruise last May I budgeted $1200 per person. In November 2005, I booked our airfare for $625pp. We got the times and connections we wanted for almost $1200 less than what I budgeted. Since my DH flies UA often for business we upgraded our seats for ORD/LHR flights.

We will fly United out of Chicago to London. Departing ORD at 4:00 pm and arriving at LHR at 5:55 am. We then will fly Iberia (operated by BA) to Barcelona. We arrive in Barcelona 12:20 pm. Our total travel time including 3hrs between flights in London will be less than 14 hrs. Our return flights are basically the same except we leave BCN at 7:55 am and will arrive in Chicago at 3:08 pm.

I also saw airfare on usair for $1300 to $1600 so I was going to forget a famlily Med cruise but

I accidently came across cheapoair.com

Philadelphia to Barcelona $616 the same flight that was listed on US Air. also Alitalia Newark to Flumcino Italy to Barcelona $568 one way.

I may rethink doing a family repro cruise in August. I spent that much on airfare for our Alaska Cruise.

I've been checking the prices from Newark, NJ to Barcelona. Right now as far out as you can go (February 2007), the prices are between $540-$600 RT on various airlines, including Continental which is non-stop.

Winter airfares to Europe are generally a lot lower than summer fares, so you shouldn't use Feb. prices as a measuring stick.
