These quotes are for our October trip. Thinking of pulling the trigger on the Airtran one.

Family of 4, direct, return...

AirTran $1118.40
Southwest $1390.40
JetBlue $1638.40
Air Transat $1774.16

Thoughts???

Consider how many bags you'll be bringing. You have to pay a fee per bag on Air Tran, but get two free on Southwest. So the difference between the flights might not be so big.

Air Transat $1774.16

I have flown Allegiant and flight was great and arrived early. For the price I paid March 2011 $496 for 4 tickets there was no hesitation. We took carryon luggage so no baggage fees.

I feel for you! We pulled the trigger with Delta! It was tough as we always had great luck with air trans. I know it's tough but once it's over..:cool1:

We are going in October also and will probably book our flights soon. Airtran is a bit cheaper than Southwest BUF->MCO, but the same price MCO->BUF for our dates. Throw in checked baggage fees and they are almost equal. But SW flight down leaves at 6am, :sad2:, so we will go with AT down and SW back to BUF.

Isn't JetBlue outrageous right now?!?

Once JetBlue released their fares to January 6th, 2013, I priced out another New Years trip (using similar dates to our most recent vacation). It was over $2000 USD for our family of 3  . We paid $1000 this year for the same time period, so its more than doubled in price.

Just for fun, I decided to check Air Canada for the same dates......and it would be cheaper for us to fly from Toronto by $200.

Hopefully those prices will go down, or there's no way I could get the hubby to even consider another trip, particularly when we are booked for August (and our airfare for that trip is only $868 taxes in......a much more reasonable sum!).

Sigh, to even have choices at those prices is a dream for us Albertans. Right now, the best I've seen for us (Edmonton to Orlando) is $2800 for four of us on United. Mind you that is over Christmas, but still, you Ontarians are very lucky to have those options.;)

That Allegiant rate seems really reasonable. I looked it up on their website and they said $35 for checked bags. With 4 people you could do 2 bags. I would go for it personally.

Personally, when we have to pay for checked baggage, we just check 1 for a family of 5! We just do laundry once or twice while the kids are swimming, its cheaper!!

ACK! Those are frightening to me. We paid just between $700-800 on Air Tran our last two trips to Florida in January (not including baggage fees of course) That is a scary sign of the times to come with airline flight costs :scared: We want to head to MCO again this December and I dread those search results ...

Im actually quite surprised at your JetBlue quote?

I just booked a 4 night trip down for Sept (booked it not even a week ago, 4 days??) and got return flights for me and my SIL for $500. Which would put 4 at about $1000. Im actually really surprised at how much it is.

I have looked at flights for Nov as well, kind of guestimating on a later trip that they don't have dates opened up for yet, and prices aren't that high. And they come in WAY under Airtran. Even Southwest.

Besides, no fee for luggage on JetBlue. And luggage on AirTran is only $20. Really no expensive.

I would buy now, but relook at the JetBlue? Seems really off. Either way, have a fantasitc trip:cool1::cool1:

I booked last night for my June/July trip. The price is soooo much higher than I'm used to paying. I guess we've been spoiled with great fares for a while and now it's time to pay up. I've still done OK though, from YYZ 4 tickets would be $2800....I paid $1164 from BUF on SW. We have to make a stop going south(and fly in the evening) but will have a nonstop coming home. I've accepted the higher fare this year but I'm still disappointed at the times available...we will arrive at MCO after 9pm. I'll just keep watching to see if I land a sale fare on an earlier flight.

I removed the Allegiant option, didn't realize it was a SAT-SAT arrival/departure and we need SUN/SUN as our dates are fixed.

Also more than likely we'll be checking luggage as we're staying 2 weeks.

Rates are still the same as a few days ago when I originally posted. :rolleyes1

Well as usual, I didn't go with my gut and now the fees have risen significantly. AirTran has gone up 14% and JetBlue 17%, as well as the others. :sad2:

Hoping for some specials to pop-up sometime soon. Using yapta.com to monitor.

Thanks for these posts. Have flown out of Buffalo before to MCO on Airtran and recently (2011) with Southwest.

We are hoping for a November trip, any tips/suggestions on when to "pull the trigger"? Love that title by the way OP!

Thanks!

I booked our early October flights on April 1st. The Airtran flight I was looking at was steady for a while, then dropped by $14, so I booked it. Not much, I know, but I took it as a sign. It was at that price for a few days, then went back up. Soon after, it went even higher, as two*little*birds mentioned.

For that price, I would go SW. For our family of 4 we bring 2 bags so $50 each way and then the seats are $6 each (so 48 each way). Adding the $200, Airtran is now $1318 and SW $1390. I find the Airtran seating more crowdes and less comfortable than SW, but do like still like them and will fly them if they are $100 less than SW or more.

How are the times?

Times are great and all non-stop - BUT all of those prices have now gone up up up! :(
