airfare out of Newark, NJ?

I have been watching the fares for weeks now! We live in Northern Jersey...so Newark is usually where we fly out of! But, for our teacher's convention week(Nov.), Continental is $275 and Song is $260! Last night I booked Song through Laguardia for $135 R/T! With 5 of us flying, that is a MAJOR savings!...and really Laguardia is easy enough to get to! We figure we will drive our own car and park in their protected extended lot!

and out of Newark, everything is prohibitive. Song went up to $119 each way and Continental is over $275 as of this morning. We flew Song out of Newark this past December for $115/rt and it was great. But if they don't start to drop soon, I will take Song out of LGA for $135/rt. I grew up in NYC (actually lived for a number of years under final approach to LGA) so I have no problem going there. While I'd prefer a shorter drive, if I save over $100/pp (there are 4 of us) it's worth the drive to me.

Does anyone know if the other airlines have something like SWA's Ding program where you sign up and they *ding* you when they are offering a fare deal to the city of your choice? I really don't want to go to Philadelphia to travel on them (we're in Northwest NJ) but maybe out of NY they will offer something great.

are still higher than LGA. Transmeridian is showing $79/each way (although I can't get it to go out as far as November) while Song is $59/each way. I'd rather take a bit more time getting to LGA in order to fly in larger leather seats w/ individual TV screens at each seat for the kids.

Now Song out of Newark was up to $139 and $159 each way this morning. There are only about 20 or so seats left on each plane so I guess no deals coming from that direction.

I'm now sure we're going Teachers Convention week. The thought of hurricanes and heat/humidity decided for me that Labor Day week is not for us at this time. So, how many of you are heading down that time? And staying off site?

New York City schools are closed the last week in April this year (instead of at Easter) and air fares shot up for that week. I guess we are ALL descending on WDW at the same time.

We are also flying out of LGA (for the first time EVER!). We've always used EWR, but the price difference was unbelievable!!! $250, EWR and $140 (non-stop) LGA!!! There are SIX of us so the savings are HUGE!!! How can I get information on this "protected extended lot". Do you know how much it is per day to park your car?? Our flight leaves LGA at 6:30 AM, so the traffic shouldn't be too bad. Our flight leaves MCO at 8:30 PM, so upon our return to LGA it shouldn't be too bad either, I HOPE!! We were quoted a rate of $150 each way plus tip for van transportation to/from LGA. :cheer2:

I have always used Newark as well, but after reading this board and realized the many options I can have, I booked songs out of LGA for $135. My first time flying out of New York though. I plan to park at avistar.

I decided on the trip because I have some vacation days, and am not looking to spend a lot of mony. If it works well, we may go back for a second trip at the end of the year.

Driving is not an option of us, as I do not try DH's van and if he were to drive, he will plan for 4 days of driving each way. DH is not a WDW fan but willing to entertain his family to come along.

I will try to get info on the extended lot, but Avistar is good too! The price on the van each way seems a little steep to me!

Just found it!
www.panynj.gov/aviation/lgrpfram.htm for onsite parking...and have a backup(scroll down to click here) incase they are full!

Is the onsite parking safe at LGA? I have never parked at Newark airport for extended trip. If we were to park at avistar, we will be using my full-size car and it is about $97 for 7 days and I hope it will be lower with AAA. It seems that I will have to pay around $98 for 7 days if I were to park onsite.

We have never parked at Laguardia, but have used the Newark extended lot on numerous occasions! They have a guard that circulates through the area, it is well lit and it is within a fenced area! I heard that LaGuardia is safe as well! Besides, I like knowing that when I return, my trusty car will be waiting for me! We have used a limo service when we traveled through JFK, and the driver never showed up!

We're kind of stuck going out of Newark. DH won't go to LGA. Does anyone think that with so many threads about fares dropping that Song and Continental out of Newark might follow? I realize that they don't have competition from Southwest going to MCO and that the airport fees to the airlines are higher out of Newark, but I'm still hoping they may drop for June. They've been holding pretty steadily for a while at $119 one way (before taxes). Any thoughts?
