Hey!

So I've been searching threads here, trying to take in tips and stuff to get the best airfare. I've searched for rates for Jetblue, etc... but I can never get the rates everyone else are getting :(

For peopel who have flown from the NYC, what airports do you reccomend flying out of ...and then into in CA? We don't care if we have to drive a little more, so LAX & Long Beach are both options!

Thanks

July comeeeeeeeeee faster.

I know on some of the travel planning sites i.e. orbitz or expedia, there is a button on the left side of the screen that you can select that has them check for airports within 80 miles of either departure city or arrival city.
I don't know if that will help you but it was all I could come up with.

jetblue would have been my first answer but it's out of JFK for you.

my second answer is continental from ewr to lax.

My DW and I am in the same boat as you for your trip in Aug. We live in right outside the NYC and are trying to figure what carrier to fly, where to fly out of and where to fly into. I just learned that Song (Delta's version of JetBlue) has started flights from Kennedy to LAX for about 144 one way, per person.
I have heard from friends in the LA area that if you can, fly in to Long Beach or Orange County Airport because LAX can be a zoo and the other are closer. However, chances are that you will find cheaper fares flying into LAX.
Another thing I have found out is that it is cheaper to buy the tix directly from the carriers website and not through Expedia, Orbitz, etc.
Hope this helps!

We bought tickets last month from Continental for $306 roundtrip EWR - LAX (non-stop flights). I didn't think that was too bad, actually pretty good. We also wanted a certain flight home, since we'll be disembarking the Magic and don't want to sit around the airport too long.

The best way to find airline tickets to anywhere is
http://matrix.itasoftware.com/
You make a login and look up your airports.
You put in your departure dates and can use previous day, or next day to help with search. You can also get airports in surrounding area. It gives most airlines. If you click on link on one you want it will bring you to a page to tell you the codes. I found just using the dates and airport, airline and going to airline site itself, the same price is usually there.
306.00 is the normal price lately for Continental and AA. Northwest I've gotten tickets for 248.00. It depends how far in advance you book and the dates. And have used hotwire for less than 200.00 but that was 2 years ago.

We got the same price as Lori - $306.70 - we wanted non-stop, certain time and day and booked with Continental out of Newark to LAX (July - West Coast Cruise and DL trip).

If you have American Express and are in their rewards program, you can use Am Express rewards to buy your Jet Blue Ticket. 25,000 points per round trip ticket. I got 4 of them for our trip.

(fyi, it took me over 10 years to save up those points :lol )

We're flying from Long Beach to JFK on JetBlue and got excellent fares. :flower:

I thought I posted here too :confused3

- unless it's a similar thread

We booked with continental out of Newark into Lax back in November. We are flying in July (like Lori). Our tickets were $306.70 each.

Anna - I notice your ticker is the same as mine. Are you on the July 2nd cruise or the July 9th cruise?

My brother lives in LA so he or us are constantly flying back and forth from LAX to EWR. We have never paid over $300 for our tickets. I visited him over Christmas and I paid $250 for a direct flight on Continental.

But I have been checking airfares lately and they seem to be very high for trips to LAX. Continental seems to be very expensive lately.

Whenever I check neighboring airports, the EWR to LAX route always seems the cheapest.

We got a decent rate out of Newark into (yikes) can't remember which airport right now?! It was not LAX though. We are flying on Continental. Our trip is in November.

Lori we are on the July 2nd - you are on the 9th if I remember seeing your posts correctly. We are traving with AOPI57 - our third cruise together. We will be staying 3 nights in DL after cruise (we are flying in day before cruise).

Yep, you're right, we're on the July 9th cruise. We're flying in the week before and doing DL and San Diego and flying home right after getting off the ship. Too bad, looks like we'll just miss each other!
