How I miss the $59/ea. way sales. Sigh.
Super hard to budget a trip to Disney World when you are a family of 7 and airfare is half as much as the trip. Aargh!

Yeah, I completely agree!!! If airfare was not so high, we would be able to go twice a year.

Agreed! Those were the days. We had a trip where we had $120 pp/round trip.

This trip TG we had enough miles to pay for more than half the airfare, or else we wouldn't have been going or we would have driven.

Oh, boy do I hear you! Our family vacation Aug. 2013 was at Music 11 nights /2 day tickets (had non-exp. ones left) for 4 adults $1745. Airfare from Canada was $1850....yah, we drove 24 hours each way for around $600. Disney is so worth it though!:cool1:

we are going in November with $59 O/W from Worcester MA because Jetblue is beginning srvice from that airport. We also have a trip planned for Dec at the same rate but think we might not go. I hate losing that great airfare, tho.

I've been trolling the airlines websites for months. We have a WDW trip planned for April 2014. Airfare from California is between $1800 to as high as $2400 (any more) for three of us. I wish the airlines would give us a break.

agreed. hoping economics take over soon and less people able to afford trips means lower airfare. i have a trip to vegas planned and the airfare is 3-4 times the cost of the room. my friends want to go again the spring and i just dont think it will happen with these rates.

We just drive. It's 15 hours each way and we drive it straight through...only stopping for gas and grab a quick snack from the gas station. :thumbsup2 Runs us less than $400 round trip for my family of 6. We go to Disney 3-4 times a year and only at peak seasons...Christmas. spring break, 4th of July, etc. No way could I afford for us to go if we flew!

Airfare from Pittsburgh for the 6 of us is $1900. Ack! $1900!!!!!!!
3 years ago we got to go a few times a year because the airfare was so low. Okay...there were also 3 less people in our family, LOL, but still. It's just outrageous. With 3 more littles, we need 2 rooms, and with airline tickets, our $2000 10-14 day trips, have turned into a one week stay for $6000 with airfare. :(

This is exactly the same for us. The only reason we are going this year is SW points, or we would be driving. Yikes!

If we flew from our home airport we would have to add another $3000 to our vacation budget :scared1: Instead we choose to drive 9 hours each way to catch a reasonably priced flight - saves us about $2000.

Agreed! We used to fly and go once a year. Now we drive, it's about 16 hours or so. We bought annual passes and already have our 4th trip planned in 12 months! We actually prefer the drive to flying we found. Leave when we want, pack what we want.

I have seen as low as $59 sales recently on Sw but not from where I fly out of or go to. My sons got great deals a few years ago but not anymore. We have gotten better deals on SW than other airlines have offered. Ended up with flight credits to get those better deals so if we do not use those flight credits in time our flights cost will not be so great.

I enjoy the drive when I have extra time as it is about 24 hours each way. If driving we take 3 days on the way, stopping on the gulf beach for an extra night. Sometimes the same on the way back.

The last two years we have taken trips at fall break and spring break. To get cheaper flights we have drove to a farther airport by 2 to 4 extra hours each way to where schools are not on break. A couple times it was to Austin, Tx which was over 300 miles from where we live. The flights were about $225 round trip. Hotel $130 per night and included parking and shuttle. Add gas and it cost over $800. The next trip to Austin my Son and his family had moved to a town 20 minutes from Austin airport, It was a win, win situation then.

Now that he lives near okc which is just over 100 miles from us we will pay a little more for flights and visit sons family still a win, win.

yup, I hear you. Airfares are evil.

We usually pay $2400-2600 per person.

On sale, maybe $1900-2200 per person.

so anyone who gets airfares for less than that, per person, are doing a whole hell of a lot better than us :) and i'm not saying that makes it better or worse or anything like that, I am just saying...that's what we pay, and it makes it really, really hard to try and justify a vacation when that is money that would be otherwise paid towards bills or savings or a mortgage etc

I am just grateful we are in a position to take a trip at the moment.

Are you coming from overseas?

We pay about $400-450 a person from Minneapolis. There are four of us, so airfare alone, by the time you add taxes and add ons, is $2k. There are seldom cheap flights out of the Twin Cities, even the low cost airlines aren't cheap.

No kidding.

Per person airfare for our flights last July: $200.
Per person airfare for our (potential) flights for next July: $375.
