Airfare Hikes; What the Heck!!!!!

Have been watching airfare from Sac to Orlando the first week in June. The rates went up over 100pp in past two weeks; add 50 of that is just in past two days. I am wondering if they will go back down again or if I missed my window. I thought I had plenty of time but now I'm worried! YIKES!!

Airfare is a little like gas prices, up, down, up, down. It's anyone's guess what the prices will look like next week.

My general rule of thumb is to track the prices and as soon as you see a price you are comfortable with buy the ticket(s).

We were originally planning on driving to Orlando (from Ohio) in March and due to some maintenance issues with my van I decided to check out airfare and nearly fell off my chair. The most I have ever paid for the four of us is $700. This year if we fly we are looking at $1600.

My DD & I are going to Orlando in May to visit a friend and I scored $150 tickets.

Keeping my fingers crossed that you find a good deal soon. June is still a ways out. Keep watching! I don't think you have missed your window.

Thanks!!! I'm watching Priceline and Kayak every few days. I am signed up for specials on SWA, Jet Blue and United. I did find a great deal out of Oakland but that's about 100 miles from my house so not sure about driving home that far after 10 days traveling! Was just deflating to see such a huge increase!

I know what you mean - the prices went NUTS this past week. We are going from the east coast to DL for a few days then on to Aulani this summer and I have been watching fares for awhile now - but I didn't want to buy them until our 7 mo. DVC window opened for us to book at DL and Aulani (which was this past Monday)...last week there was a rt between LA and HNL on Delta for $454. About 2 days after I booked our resorts it went up to $512 then up to like $595 for a day or two and then today it's back down to like $516 or something. I don't know if it will drop back below $500 again or not...it's making me very nervous as that's only 1 part (leg) of our trip. We're island hopping AND still have get from DC to LA. I can tell you tho that I am checking it every day (on EVERY site) and if it drops at all again I will snatch it up! I am really hoping to get that leg for less than $500 pp because it's looking like east to west coast is going to cost us at LEAST $350ish pp. It's reminding me of when we went to Europe 2 years ago - I set a price point in my mind and finally, 1 day (in January) I woke up and there it was! I bought it right on the spot and after that it went UP and UP to several hundred more than what I got it for. I just don't know when (or if) the sales will be for summer air.

(Do you live in CA? Do you think $500ish is a good price for HI air from LA?)

I am in northern CA so we usually go out of Sacramento or San Fran. I haven't flown to Hawaii in years but 500 seems high. My friend is there now; she flew two people to Maui for 900 with taxes. My boss took a job there are he flew Sac to Honolulu for 350. I'm not sure what is going on with airfare right now; but it we could get back to those rates!

Have fun on your trip. I love DL and hoping we will fall in love with WDW too!

I realllly want to try Virgin America from Dulles to LAX but since we're flying out to CA on a Saturday that one-way is $259 VS United which is $174 in ea. direction. Their return from LAX to Dulles is $199...so I am tempted to go ahead & book that leg on VA as it's only $25 higher than UA but according to seatguru their plane has personal TV's rather than the scattered overhead sets, more seat pitch and the seats are almost 2" wider!! Worth $25 on such a long flight...still hoping I can catch a sale on that $259 flight going out tho...I don't mind paying a LITTLE extra but hate to pay $85 extra pp. Good luck to you finding the right airfare too....WDW is a lot different than CA. The climate is different and there are more parks to explore (esp. if you count the water parks). You'll have a blast I'm sure!!
