any tips?? I'm starting to get desperate!! I have signed up for all those alerts but no luck. We are planning to leave July 13 and returning the 21st but everything is close to 300 per person! :-( Even SW after taxes/fees ends up being over 1,000 dollar for 3!

Any advise/tips would be appreciated.

What about flying out of Akron (CAK)? Airtran? Pittsburgh with US Air? Or USA 3000 out of CLE?
And if SW is at $300 a person, you might as well take Continental NS from CLE for $291 per person.

We found that flying out of Cleveland was just too much. (over $300 a person on Continental- and there are 4 of us) Even Akron-Canton was too high. :confused3 We are going July 1-7 and ended up getting tickets out of Pittsburgh on US Air for $184 ( a little over $200 with taxes). So we will drive to Pittsburgh. We live in Bedford, so it will take about 1.5 hours. But we're willing to make the drive to save money.

The key to the special rates is flexibility... If you've got firm reservations at the hotel, it's tough to get a low cost flight to match. I've been watching DING regularly and seen $69 each way from Cleveland to MCO pop up twice in the last 3 months or so. Caveat is that travel was limited to Tuesday and Wednesday on both of them. If you're flexible, you can get low fares. If not, you're stuck paying for convenience...

hey diznymagic i live in bedford oh. also!! We have flown out of Pitts. a few times to Orlando. One tip, make sure you write down where you parked your car in the long term lot!!!! It is HUGE and confusing!!!! Have a great time!!!!

if you don't mind driving, PIT usually has the best prices, especially on Southwest. CAK is good for AirTran flights too, but PIT has better deals.

We live in Akron, but usually we'll drive to PIT because we've gotten Southwest DING fares for less than $40/one way several times.

I'm right there with ya! I will keep playing with dates, airports whatever it takes! Am glad to see I have some company in this CLE - MCO pain! Our trip isn't till Dec. so we'll see! Mostly just wanted to say  to other Ohio Dis'ers! So... - mary (in Parma)

We haven't used this airline, but I have family in Orlando and they have. It's Alligiant Air out of Toledo to Sanford airport. They have fares this summer for $60 each way. Of course, there's no Magical Express out of Sanford, but it's fine if you're renting a car.

Hi Everyone - Thanks for the tips!! The fares are outrageous and we are planning to fly on a Thursday! How much is the long term parking in Pittsburg?? That may be an option for us right now especially since we have no one to take us to the airport since its midweek! :sad2:

Hello fellow Ohio diser's!! Nice to know there are more of us!!!

THis is why we are now driving...there are 6 of us. Last August, we flew CLE-MCO on Continental, direct flight, early morning to MCO and late afternoon coming home (Great for squeezing in half-days at parks) -- all for $189 rt pp. This year, nothing is even coming close.

I think Youngstown's airport has begun flights on a budget airline--maybe Allegiant?

I have even found better deals out of COlumbus, esp for SWA.

Good luck looking! If you are parking a car in PIT, you might want to check hotels there. It was cheaper for us to get a hotel room here in Cleveland, and leave our minivan for "up to 2 weeks FREE" than to pay the per-day parking. PIT probably has some hotels like that too, and then you COULD stay the night and head to the airport fresh.

Okay guys (especially my fellow Ohio buddies) I went ahead booked from Akron/Canton for 197.00 roundtrip with taxes included. The only problem is its an early morning flight and a 4 hour layover going but we will still be in Orlando before 2pm. We plan to drive and park for 40.00 for the week unless we splurge for the park and fly for 140.00 and stay at the hotel the night before.

Its not ideal but still keeps me within my budget. I'm really bummed - this is the first time we have had to do this. Other times we have been able to fly from Cleveland to Orlando rather reasonably.

The good news is that agent said once we get to the airport we can always ask if there is another flight with a shorter layover and if so they will put us on it for no extra charge - so I guess I'll say a few prayers and bath in pixie dust that morning :teeth:

Good luck to everyone else!

We are from Ohio as well but we are in Mt. Vernon much closer to Columbus. Our trip isn't until September and we found a Continental flight out of Cleveland for $475 total, it's just myself and my wife.

This is where things get wild, I was looking around and found direct flights from Detroit (DTW) into Orlando for around $235 total for the both of us. Can't find anything out of C-bus close to that. We just might have to take a little road trip.

Hey Ohio State Buckeyes, I grew up in Mt. Vernon! And :welcome: to DisBoards!

about a month ago continental had a rt rate of $129 (for travel in august)...i know those have gone up but you might want to keep an eye on them. :)
