I'm considering coming into Miami a couple of days early to enjoy some sun/beach time. Unfortunately, hotel prices, especially near the beach, are costly for 8 people. Does anybody have any experience using airbnb for a short stay before or after a cruise? If so, how was it?

So I have not personally done this, but my husband stays at AirBnb every week in Miami. He works there as a consultant in the Kendall area. Even though it is not near the beach, the cheapest hotels (that weren't dives) were costing us $800 per week. So he started using Airbnb about 3mos ago, and the cost is about $350 per week. So far he has been really happy with it. I'm sure it is more expensive closer to the beach.

I've never used the service in Miami, but have used AirBnB several times for business travel and have found the service very helpful. Costs are much lower than hotels and you can generally find something decent for the money if you do the homework. Make sure to contact the person renting the space directly in addition to checking out reviews. I've changed my mind a couple of times based on not getting a decent vibe off of the host.

Still, and especially if you're not all that picky, you can save major bucks.
