Air Tran operated flights with SWA

I would gladly pay both baggage and seating fees if I could do so while using my rapid rewards (had an airtran credit for our other seats, that's why I am doing airtran, not southwest). Guess I will just save them for another trip and buy my ticket this time

Why not just convert your RR points to A+ credits? Then you could book as an award directly with AT. That's assuming there's award availability via AT.
I would log into your A+ account and check before transferring RR pts to A+.

So where do you check your baggage if you book an AirTran flight through Southwest? At Southwest or AirTran?

AirTran, it gets loaded onto their plane. At PIT, they combined the counters already.

We have a girls trip at the end of Aug and the flight to MCO is on AirTran and we booked through SWA. When I called SWA I asked this question and they advised me we would check in at SWA, not AirTran since we booked through SWA. Luckily at the airport we are leaving from they are right next to each other so it shouldn't be a big deal. It really will be nice when the merge is really merged! ;)

I did book as many as I could for the flights I needed, but unlike southwest, airtran reward seats are limited. So I can book the same flight through southwest and be on the same plane or use airtran's rewards and be on a completely different flight.

We just flew home on an AirTran flight booked through southwest on Friday. I was a little nervous when I booked it with having two children aged 7 and 4 and the 4yr old with special needs. When I checked in online 24hrs before the flight we ALL were seated all over the plane. When we got to the gate I just asked if I could possibly just get one adult sitting with the 4yr old and the lady at the gate said she could do much better than that. We got a whole row to ourselves :cool1: It was towards the back of the plane but I was happy to be together. We did see another family that was split up too and they just asked on the plane if anyone would be willing to change seats to get the family together and a bunch of people offered. It is nice to see there are some nice people still out there. Overall, I was happy with our experience with the AirTran system right now and I would not hesitate to book again, which I still have to do for our upcoming cruise in November :cool1:

The normal procedure is to check in and check your luggage with the airline (metal) you will actually be flying, which is AirTran. I'm not sure I would trust a telephone agent's word, although because they are merging, what she suggested may be possible. Personally, I would go through AirTran.

It's my understanding (from SW's website) that AirTran flights booked through SW must be checked in online through SW's website, not AirTran.

However, I'm curious from those who booked AirTran flights throught SW....did you take your luggage to the AirTran desk at the airport, or SW's desk? :confused3

Same here. We always take the earliest flight out and they are always pretty much full. In fact, we just flew to WDW May 10th. Our flight left at 0620 and they made the announcement before boarding that the flight was completely full, passengers would be allowed one overhead item and one item that fit under their seat, but if anyone wanted to check their carry on they could so for free, because the way it looked there would not be enough room in the overheads for everyone's carry on. This was on American though, not Southwest or Air Tran.

This has been our experience on the last several trips to MCO on AirTran. We always book the first flight out of MKE and it's ALWAYS full (we normally fly during the week, and in early May or early to mid November). Last year when boarding they asked for volunteers to check luggage at no charge because there wasn't room for all the carry-ons.

I agree! I think this is another reason it's adding to the confusion. She was very sure of herself and I'm hoping others can confirm since several have already flown. :)

That was the agents exact response - if you booked on SWA you go by all the SWA rules including checking in with them online and at the airport. :confused3 Luckily at the airport we use for SWA they are right next to each other so it shouldn't be a big deal.
