So I am wondering about metal dection, my mother whas 4 pounds of surgical metal (plates, screws etc.) in her back, does she need any sort of documents proving this at the air port? I am just wondering I have not brough her post op yet on a flight, does anyone know abou this, or shall I just call the airport perhaps, or am I worrying about nothing ?

I am in Ontario, Canada - flying out of Toronto

Let me know your thoughts . . .

Thanks , Amanda

We know that people either take a letter from their doctor or a copy of their x-rays. They usually don't have any problems getting through the detectors.

Hi!
My dd has a plate and screws in her leg, and she had no problems going thru the metal detectors. I would have her Dr. write a short letter if you want to be 'covered'. You could also call the airline and ask them their policy. I didn't get a letter, thank goodness I didn't need it!! :)

My MIL had to be screened due to metal from knee surgery. They just had her step aside, then checked her good for metal (weapons I guess) then they let her go. I don't think that a note from a Dr. would make a difference if they want to stop and check you extra carefully. If you have nothing to hide then it is no problem.
