air miles upgrade

Hello. I have 5 kids, one income family. I'm trying to do universal this August. I'm hoping to use Air Miles to purchase basic tickets, and then upgrade them once we are there. I'm worried that I won't be able to upgrade. Can anyone confirm they have actually done this to make me feel more confident i'm not wasting miles. tia.

There were a few people on the Canadian board who did it and there are some here who had other bank points tickets who were able to do it. You might want to call or email Universal directly to inquire. Make sure that you let them know that they are not complimentary tickets but are loyalty tickets. That makes a big different since tickets marked COMPLIMENTARY are not upgradable and these aren't the tickets that you get from Air Miles.

Universal does not bridge tickets. They assign a value to the ticket and you pay the difference. As long as they can assign a value, the ticket is upgradable.

Last week I upgraded an old 7 day ticket I had booked through Airmiles back in 2009 or 2010 to an Annual Pass. Before WWoHP opened Universal was selling cheap 7 day tickets (similar to my Airmiles ticket) for about $89.

They gave me $100 of value applied to the Annual Pass so I was happy with it. Your individual case may be different, but it worked for me.
