I purchased a single air mattress for our son for our upcoming trip - if you call the front desk, will they share something to blow the thing up with?? We are 7 in a 2 bedroom at OKW - the inlaws will have the master room, my hubby and me a bed, the 2 girls a bed and I'm trying to avoid having our son in the living room on the pullout sofa. Sigh..

When I was at BCV in Feb, I tried using their vacuum to blow one up and failed miserably, even though that's what I use at home.

I can purchase one of those portable blowers but then I need to lug it with

Just curious what you all have done in the past on getting the thing blown up.
thanks,
Annette

you can buy a manual (foot activated) pump at any outdoors store. We have one that takes up very little room - it locks closed and is almost flat. People use these to blow up air mattresses when camping and no electricity is available.

Just as an FYI, my firend, who is an adult, sleeps on the pull out sofa at OKW all the time when we go and finds it quite comfortable.

We have a small pump that goes right into the rolled up mattress. It takes up little or no space. I'd suggest investing in one that you will be able to carry with you. It is so easy to have everything with you.

This won't help you with your question, but just another suggestion for you:

We purchased a twin-sized air mattress at Target that has a pump built right into the mattress. Twist the cover one way, it inflates the mattress in less than 2 minutes. Twist it the other way, it helps to deflate the mattress. Using the pump to deflate helps to "suck" out all the air so that it folds tightly and easily. It also came with it's own "knapsack" type bag to store it in.

We packed it right in the luggage and I would say it only took up as much room as 2 pair of folded (adult) jeans. It was an Eddie Bauer brand and I think we paid $35 for it on sale.

We've brought it for two Disney vacations so far and use it all time at home for kids' sleepovers. We've definitely gotten our $$'s worth out of it.

I don't think her son's comfort is the issue here. My bet is that jaclark (like me) just doesn't want anyone sleeping in the living room. To me, if you have to do that, it kind of defeats the purpose of having DVC. I stongly prefer to have that area available for those who want to get up early or stay up late. Can't do that if it's someone's bedroom. DVC has really spolied me!

Best wishes -

Yep, that's it. I'm an early riser and usually one daughter is as well (also the in-laws). So we are trying to keep bodies in the bedrooms...

I'm not sure if I still have the receipt to this one - it's never been used - guess I could try and find the Eddie Bauer one. I may call OKW and see what they say.

thanks for the advice everyone - I'll let you know what I find out.

Well, what I did, many years ago, was besides buying the air mattress, I bought an electric pump. It's not much bigger than a shoe box (albeit thick shoebox) and I carry the pump, mattress and a set of twin sheets on almost every vacation. If I packed it separately, it would fit in a small duffle bag, but I have the one "large" suitcase we take and I usually just pack it in there. We frequently travel with my BIL, so it's me, DH, BIL, and DD (9). I can't tell you how many times this has probably paid for itself in saved rollaway fees. Of course, there was the one time I bid on priceline and we ended up in a room with a king bed. That time, BIL got the airmattress and the three of us shared the bed! LOL! Anyway, with 2 girls and a boy, you might find that making the investment now would be worth it. We have not found a room yet that we can't fit it into. Oh, and the pump deflates as well as inflates so set up and take down is about a 5 minute task.
Good luck on your decision.

My Important FYI:

ALWAYS try out the bed before you leave for your trip. We took one with us and didn't try it out first. As luck would have it, it had a hole in it! We bought it at Wal-Mart so we were able to do an exchange but it wasn't how I wanted to spend my vacation time.

I would return what you have and buy the twin or double size aerobed. These are great, they cost almost $100.00 and are worth every penny. when the kids have sleepovers, they just pop it out. We have used it several times and always bring it with us, its easy to set up, and easy to close up.

If you have an airbed that you have to blow up and it takes awhile, do you want to knock it down each night, this is easy, and you won't have to step over it all the time!

We just purchase a twin air mattress from target in August
(teen age boys DO NOT sleep in the same bed).
this one came with an attached sleeping bag, carrying bag you can fling over your shoulder and an air pump.

boys said its was pretty comfortable

also folds small enuf to be a carry-on

We have 2 air mattresses not the aero bed. I think they are way overpriced. I also like the ones that are elevated like a regular bed. so they don't seem so much like camping. One is an eddy Bauer queen with the pump built right in. I have slept on it many times and it is very comfortable. I also have a twin size pump built in.

I will say however before I bought these more expensive ones. I bought cheapo $20 ones at walmart( No Pump) Used them for the duration of the trip and left them there rather than drag them home. I brought a seperate pump to inflate them. However I seem to remember a post awhile back Maybe it was BILLINPA ?
Describing how he got a plastic pepsi bottle and cut of the bottem and put the hairdryer on cool. In the end of the bottle and very easily blew it up like that. So he did not have to lug a pump. Good Luck!
