Air Conditioning Tips?

How is acceptable for the AC to turn off at night...in Florida?

This is probably a separate topic, but I have noticed the buildings in the parks etc aren't kept as cool anymore either.

I do not know if this still works but I found this from last year. Never hurts to try it:) To adjust the temperature, follow these instructions: On the thermostat, push the power button and the down arrow (button that adjusts the temp) at the exact same time. If you do this correctly, you will see the letters "bp" where the temp normally shows. You are now bypassing the sensors in the room. You can then set the temp to whatever you want and it keeps the room that cold whether you are in it or not. You might have to do this once a day as the thermostat tends to go back to sensor mode after 24 hours.

I have read, don't have personal experience, that this solution does not work on the newest thermostats. I have also read here that the lowest setting is 68 degrees, which is apparently not low enough for some

We just stayed at POR....no ceiling fans. We had no issues at all sleeping. And yes, I do like it chilly when I sleep. In fact, one of the girls said she was cold at night!! And the room was never 'warm' when we returned during the day. So, I doubt it turns completely off. Otherwise it would be unbearable, especially during a heat wave.
I like the resorts that have ceiling fans....at least the air is kept moving during the night...to the point of it getting too chilly sometimes.

Ceiling fans are great. Do any resorts at WDW have them? I can't remember. I know some of the offsite places we have stayed at have.

CBR has them for sure. I'm pretty sure POFQ and POR (non royal rooms) have them too.

We go every year in the heat of August and have never noticed this! And, believe me, I like it cool to sleep! I'd be waking up a lot if it was too warm in the room!! And certainly the room never seemed bad after we returned from the park for the day. Is it really every room???? Is it new???

I know for sure all deluxe resorts have ceiling fans, we keep them on at night and have never been warm at all and we go in summer....also keep our house very cool at home so sensitive to heat.

Noticed that the a/c is motion sensor controlled in resort rooms. Any tips to make a/c continue running during the night? I called the resort front desk, and they told me to tie balloons to the duct so they would move around and keep the sensor activated. Really?
The balloon trick works. Also you can hang a light garment in front of it and get the same results.

Be careful with that balloon and kids. My sister has a fear of balloons to this day because as a kid she woke up in the night at a sleep over and a balloon was swaying, she thought it was a stranger in the room in the dark, eek! LOL

Same here. Dd was 8. Thought it was Tinkerbelle. She one up screaming. It was great. (Not)

Altho we were leaving dd surprises from Tinkerbelle. And you used to be able to see Tinkerbelle in the drawer in a MK SHOP.... so it was my fault

It was my understanding that only rooms recently refurbished (or built) have them currently, but all resorts will be implementing them as a "green" initiative.

A competing site had instructions on how to override the thermostat at CSR, though I've not tried it myself to know if it works. I believe board guideliens prohibit me from posting a link. If CBR had these in effect last Fall, then we did stay in a room with it but it was never a problem for us. It's possible that's because we had the ceiling fan on the whole time, which would have kept constant movement in the room. But we like it cold in the room, and it was always satisfactory to us.

This is also not just a problem at night while sleeping but also while you're out all day in the heat. The last thing you want to do is come back from the pool or walking around, sweaty, and walk into a warm and stuffy room.

The lowest we could set our A/C at BC was 68, but the actual room temp never got that low. It seemed to stay around 70. One day we did notice the maid turned it up to 78... gee, thanks.

I do about 10-12 trips a year to the Orlando theme parks,I probably stay off site 8-9 times and with all honesty the Disney hotels are the warmest rooms of the bunch, you just can't bring the temperature down enough.I can get those off site hotels down to a true 60 degrees which feels freezing.I need it cold to sleep well, especially for the races in January. For that trip I'm going to bring a desktop fan and tie a balloon to it to keep the AC on.

We take a fan with us because of white noise, so that might have helped - but we did not notice the room getting hot in Boardwalk 2 weeks ago.
