Noticed that the a/c is motion sensor controlled in resort rooms. Any tips to make a/c continue running during the night? I called the resort front desk, and they told me to tie balloons to the duct so they would move around and keep the sensor activated. Really?

Not sure where you noticed that. We've never had that issue. Room always stays nice & cool (both through the night and even we're out during the day), and on this past trip I even found myself too chilly a couple of times at night and had to turn the thermostat control up.

This is a well known fact tinkerbesh
Call Maintenance/Engineering. They can send someone up to override the thermostat
Good Luck

OP is the one with the issue. I was trying to say that I've never had a problem, so I had no idea it was an issue for some. Hope OP finds a solution!

Keep a balloon in your room as the air conditioner turns off and on the balloon sways. The inflated balloon seems to create enough motion in the room so that the air conditioner doesn't go into automatic shut off when people are sleeping or out of the room.

At Coronado Springs. Had no problem at POR in 2012. Called CS front desk yesterday and was told that all rooms, in all resorts, are now motion sensor for a/c.

Awesome! Thanks for the suggestion. No a/c during the night makes for uncomfortable sleeping.

I don't think the ac shuts all the way off, it just goes to a higher temp to conserve energy which is almost as dumb as going off considering Florida is ungodly hot. That being said, AKL had these at my last stay and balloons are not permitted on the grounds. While my room felt stuff after returning from the parks, I never woke up once from being too hot and I mind heat.

I think if the desk told me to use a balloon I would ask if they were paying for it or if this was part of a scam to drive up merchandise sales. If they were providing the balloon, they would be fixing my thermostat.

Be careful with that balloon and kids. My sister has a fear of balloons to this day because as a kid she woke up in the night at a sleep over and a balloon was swaying, she thought it was a stranger in the room in the dark, eek! LOL

Its really hard to believe that the only options are balloons (not possible at all resorts) or calling maintenance (a real hassle anywhere).

I understand Disney's desire to save energy. But, there has to be a better way, such as if the motion has triggered any time after 7pm then stay on for the night.

if I am too hot - just lower the temperature - you can do that now - at least at BLT and Polyn in the dvc villas.

Really?

Might be canceling my Contemporary reservation for August if this is true.

I've definitely had issues with the AC never getting cold enough.I like it nice and cold to fall asleep and it just never gets cold enough for me.Especially during the marathon weekend when you have to go to bed super early to get up ridiculously early at 2am to then have to go run 26 miles, you need your sleep, cold AC is important.I'm considering staying offsite for next years marathon in a hotel I know I can bring the temperature real low.I've sent Disney emails about this subject and got the standard response of we'll look into it.I don't know if the balloon thing would do anything.

I do not know if this still works but I found this from last year. Never hurts to try it:) To adjust the temperature, follow these instructions: On the thermostat, push the power button and the down arrow (button that adjusts the temp) at the exact same time. If you do this correctly, you will see the letters "bp" where the temp normally shows. You are now bypassing the sensors in the room. You can then set the temp to whatever you want and it keeps the room that cold whether you are in it or not. You might have to do this once a day as the thermostat tends to go back to sensor mode after 24 hours.

Confused, so with the sensor the A/c turns completly off? I thought it was temp controlled??

How long of complete stillness does the off mode kick in?

Are the rooms then notically hot when returning from a long day? Not an issue for me. Infind it good to conserve energy as the rooms only take a few minutes to cool off.

Yes.

I thought it was temp controlled??

It is. But with no movement in the room, it shuts off. When movement is detected it kicks back on and cools to the temp set on the Thermostat.

I believe 60 minutes.

Yes. They also get noticeably hot during the night when guests are sleeping.[/QUOTE]
