Air Canada cutting 2,000 jobs, trimming capacity

I smell price increases due to fewer seats available, and skyrocketting fuel surcharges. Kind of like Airtran........$160 seats...and $162 in taxes and fees. As the fuel speculations go, so will surcharges.

My fears too!

I have 3 tickets for our Christmas trip bought and paid for,,,with AC. Makes me alittle nervous ,,.:worried:

My deepest sympathies to those AC employees (probably will be the front line workers) that lose their jobs.
:(

I don't see them cutting the routes to Florida because those flights are always full and I remember hearing they don't want to send out planes with no passengers.

Orlando may lose a few flights, but not all.....

Just heard a gentleman from AC on the news. He said "people don't have much of a choice. They will pay the prices because there are only two airline options."

Hmm...knew there was a reason I fly to WDW from the US...

Air Canada can cite any number of reasons for cutting costs and jobs, but they need to recognize that they have the poorest customer service of any airline which probably makes alot of us travel on the US airlines.

That and the price. Way to many extra fees and taxes.

I agree with you 100% .
It makes me wonder who the hell voted for Air Canada in the Global Traveller magazine to vote it #1 airline in North America in Jan/07 !:confused3

Agree with you on that, Pooksma. Quite a broad statement made by that AC spokesperson. Most of us do have choices. When we do fly from our YVR airport, we're usually flying on Alaska Air, Cathay Air, JAL, United, etc. We almost always fly from Seattle using Alaska Air and Hawaiian Air. This summer, we're flying on Virgin America and JetBlue for the first time, who have now added Seattle to their route.

The one and only time I've ever flown on AC was from YVR to Shanghai on business, because it was on the company's dime. Every time I check AC fares, they are about double more than other airlines. Because of that, our choice is always the other airline.

Canadian's in larger centers and close to the border have other options and are very lucky. But for those of us who are not in these areas, we actually only do have two options AC or WJ. NL is not a priority on AC list anyway. They will cancel evening flights into NL based on the weather, they do not want their planes stuck in NL for a day. This annoucement will effect the locations where there are actually only two airlines moreso than the larger cities such as Toronto. That's just my opnion though, I hope I'm wrong.

My mistake and I am sure you can understand that, because I am not use to what the other flight schedules are from other Canadian cities to Florida destinations.

No problem. Just making sure you aren't one of those "Toronto, the center of the universe people." ;)
