Ahoy November 12th, 2009 Cruisers!!

Love your dolphin avitar Amy! We got lucky. Parent/Teacher conferences are the week are travelling and I will make arrangements to conference either before or after. The kids have half days or no school for the few days we are gone. DS(almost)10 starts school Aug.31. My DS 16 starts Aug.17! I grew up in Ohio and we started after Labor Day so this is all weirdness to me.:confused3 DS is also a good student so he usually does ok with leaving.
We attempted to do the Scavenger Hunt a few years ago but DS was only 7 and lost interest about halfway thru-especially when he got near the Kids Club and saw other kids playing. It was fun though!:thumbsup2

Love your dolphin avitar Amy!!:thumbsup2

Thanks.. the girls wanted the dolphin since we are going to Discovery Cove. My girls say they aren't going to the kids club. I think my littlest one will change her mind once she is there, not sure about my almost 10 year old though. She hangs with me and is scared to be away from me for any time. :confused3 I know we have been over protective parents, but can't seem to get her to spread her wings a bit. Maybe after she meets your son and some others at the dis meet she will think differently. We actually start school on Aug 24th this year. My kids have parent teacher conferences that week with Friday the 13th off..... My hubby will be home to go to it. They always do this super long veterans day program on the last day of the week of Veterans week, so they wont' miss much school work that week. They are both the top of their class, so academically we dont' have to worry too much. My youngest is 7 too, so maybe the scavenger hunt won't work out. I think they would be game for riding bikes for a half hour or so.... Does anyone know if you can rent a 4 person paddle boat for just three?????

also.. what dinner does everyone have... we have late, on a waitlist for first.....

we did do a dolphin experience on one of our trips and the boys (elder DS was with us) LOVED it - we did buy the video;)
your DD may like the scavenger hunt, my DS wanted to go to the club because we happened to pass by it and he saw kids playing :confused3
your DD 10 may meet some friends at the pool or around the ship-ya never know:cutie:

As a kid, I loved Sea World. We went just about every year.... so it has been something I wanted them to see. Discovery Cove is just an added "memory" that seemed foolish not to miss since we are going to be right there. I was able to get the book early discount too.

nope, not us. We were there Feb 22nd. Not to say we didn't have a blast...lol.
Just think, at this rate, this group is going to be bigger, louder and having even more fun!

I am vowing to be the quiet one on this trip....well...if you believe that...I have a bridge to sell!
Been excersizing my liver again gals....need to make sure I'm prepped for our cruise...LOL

OK question. What are some different options for Dress Up night? We didn't have a Dress Up night on our 7 night so I am not sure how far to go with this. Simple dress, long gown, dress pants???? HELP I planned on wearing capri's on the other two nights but am stumped on this one. Also, what is the position on sandals/flip flops in the dining room? I have some crystal studded ones I would like to wear (they are dressy).

OK Obviously I don't fly enough...do all airlines charge for checked baggage (even the first one)? Airtran (who we are planning on using) charges 15 for the first checked bag and 25 for the second. Is this pretty standard?

I didn't think there was a dress up night for the 3 night cruise.. unless you want to dress to go to Palo. I could be wrong. I am going to try to pack super light, so I will just be in sandals for dinner. You should be fine with fancy flip flops.

Airtran does charge(did you see the link I posted with the $25 discount) Southwest does not... not sure if they are available. I am not sure about the other airlines, those are the two I usually fly. we are flying Airtran one leg and I am going to try to just have one bag to check and will carry the other 2 on.

Amy,

According to the DCF web-site:

On 3-night cruises:
  • One cruise casual night—no shorts, swimwear or tank tops
  • One pirate or tropical night (deck party)
  • One "dress-up night"—jacket for men, dress or pantsuit for women
I just don't know how fancy dress-up night is??? Can anyone who has been on a 3 night help me out?

Thanks for the airline info I am going to check out SW!

Update: SW was a no go, they don't leave from Charlotte

Welcome stacieps! :cheer2: Sounds like we will have quite a group of 10yo boys. That's great, they will have a blast!
scootch - I bet your 10 DD will have a great time. My 10 DS is very shy but when you get him in the kids club he won't come back out! He doesn't even want to have dinner with us.

I will arrive at the Goofy Pool with bottled water in hand! That is almost all I can drink. Last cruise our server got used to it and would bring me a small plate of lemons for my water. Sometimes I would take my own herbal tea bags. It was nice being able to get peppermint tea on deck 9.

Here is a picture of us on dress up night. I plan to wear the same dress with a different scarf. Luckily that dress folds well without wrinkling.

I just looked at the pictures of my husband and I on the stairs by Tritons on dress up night. My daughter took them and they are awful!! Besides that I realize I was wearing "mom" shoes and my scarf wasn't great either. :sad2: This time I will pack strappy heals and a scarf with pizazz. I had better get the scarf before the summer colors are gone....

I wore dressy casual for "dress up" night. Dress pants and a nice blouse. I don't think they check everyone out and refuse them if they are not dressed properly. The other boys (from Ron's family..lol) in our group wore dress shorts and tshirts every night. No one even looked at them twice.
My hubby wore Dockers and a polo shirt every night to dinner.

Thanks for the photo and info guys :thumbsup2 It will be nice not to have to take my hang up clothes this trip. In January I had to lug DH's suit and 3 of my dresses. Not this cruise :cool1::cool1::cool1:

What's really nice is that DH has a ton of long sleeve shirts and I have a few dresses to choose from, no shopping required for "dress-up night".

Hey Tracey!! Great to see you guys again! I agree...all the boys will have a great time together! I remember seeing Nick do Karaoke in Studio Sea in Feb.!! :thumbsup2 I also agree that I don't think the 3 and 4 day cruises have a real formal dress up night. I've worn just Dockers and a nice shirt and it's been fine!

I think we have early seating for dinner.

We always fly JetBlue and there is no charge for the first bag checked. We each have our own luggage plus carry-ons so we have plenty of room.

Sue is exercising her liver... :lmao:

As far as posting pics...don't have to wait, lol! Tracey had posted a lot of pics before our Feb. cruise and thats how I knew who they were when we saw them at the Radisson! It helps a lot. My wife Laura always does the pic posting so I'm sure she'll start soon. :thumbsup2

Oh gee ... news to me.... ho hum, lets see... what can I wear?? I was really, really hoping to pack super light since we will be 1 night at the Hyatt, 3 nights at the cruise and 4 nights at Bay Lake Tower going to WDW, SW and DC.... I do have pirate shirts and hats for the girls, although we dont' plan on eating dinner in the restaurant that night anyhow. Guess I will throw in my trusty skort that goes with everything.

Oh my, wait till all these boys see my smiling 10 year old girl.... she is a cutie... if I dont' say so myself. Maybe she will come out of her shell and feel comfortable enough to wander 3 feet away from me!!! My 7 year old, now she is the social bunny!

Hi All!
We also are planning to pack super light. DH dresses much like Mike does for dinner-nice but not formal. I have a dress for dressy night and casual stuff for others. It's just 3 nights. I don't want to drag the garment bag this time. Air Tran counts every bag
I have seen some people dress in some strange things for dinner-and inappropriate things such as jeans and T shirts in a formal dining room!-and nothing is done.:confused3

So which is the dress up night, is it a certain restaurant or a certain night? We have late seating and I don't plan on eating a sit down dinner each night since it is just the girls and I.

$299 for a 3 day???? :scared1: I guarantee we won't be doing this.

As far as the green bands go I am going to place an order for the customized one's for DH and I on 8/14. I am going to have them printed with: "Got Dis? Disney Wonder 11/12/09" If anyone wants to order them PM me and I will add you to the list. I will need to number of bands wanted and the address you want them mailed to when I rcv them.

They take 4-6 weeks to rcv so I should have them by the beginning of October (at the latest) and can mail them out to anyone who orders with plenty of time before our cruise departs. :thumbsup2
Lynn, I can't PM because I don't have 10 posts yet... I'll take 4 bands. maybe you can try to PM me. Thanks

Lynn, sorry I can't even reply unless I have 10 posts - just need to keep posting til I get there. I could read yours though. 2 adult, 2 kids on the bands. PM me your email??? to get my address
