Welcome to our PTR! We're planning a pirate themed birthday trip for our soon to be four year old who is pirate OBSESSED! Join us on the high (land) and seas as we plan a pirate adventure for three!

About us:
Each year we plan a family trip during December, for our son's bday and just to get away. Early December is our go to time for us to plan an all out vacation, and always seems to be decent weather with low crowds wherever we go. :)

We own a dessert bakery the south and are in the middle of adopting a little girl. It's a long shot but we hope that she's home with us before our big trip. It would be so amazing to have a family trip with our new addition!

Me: 33 years old, working mama who owns a dessert bakery and also takes care of our wonderful DS. I love traveling more than anything, and have been fortunate to be in a position where we can go lots of fun new places!

Me-1.jpg

DH: 35 years old, working daddy who has been my greatest supporter in opening my biz, and shares my desire for travel. He's been to WDW about 5 times, but not since he was a teen.

DS: 3 years old, turning 4 on our big trip! The sweetest boy a mama could have, and took his first international trip to Europe at 2 years old. Also loves to travel and spends his afternoons looking at airplanes in the sky wishing he was on them going somewhere new and adventurous!

BG2B: We're adopting! We're on the waitlist to bring home a little girl, and she may or may not be home by the time our trip comes around. If not, it will be the three of us embarking on our last big trip as a family of three!

How we got to Disney:

I have never been a Disney fan. DH has been trying to get us to go to WDW since DS was born. DS is going to be 4 on 12/8 and I thought, it's time to do WDW.

That was three days ago. I have probably spent about 15 hours in the past three days pouring over the boards and every piece of info I could possibly find. I have suddenly found myself DISNEY OBSESSED! Like seriously losing sleep talking about it to everyone I know can't stop thinking about Mickey ready to put a countdown ticker on my Iphone more excited than our trip to St. Lucia in October for our 5 year anniversary willing to sell my dogs if it gets me extra time there OBSESSED.

I should also add that we are cruising on the Dream and still trying to decide if we should cruise before or after WDW. Right now we're leaning to WDW after, because we feel like the cruise may not be nearly as exciting as the 5 days we plan to spend in the parks.

Our first big decision is where to stay. Every time I think we (okay, I) have made a decision, another great review pops up and the decision gets even harder.

DH has told me that we WILL make a decision tonight, so that will be my next update. :)

The Great Hotel Debate

I posed the question of where to stay on the main board, and as the past 24 hours have ticked by I have excitedly and painstakingly looked at all of the resorts over and over again.

Tonight DH, DS and I sat down to look at the hotels one last time. We looked at the pools, amenities, lobbies, rooms and more for each hotel and came up with....

WL

Versus

POLY

Yes, back to square 1!

We've decided to sleep on it. The decision shouldn't be this hard, but we're having fun with it. We've also decided to add a pre-park day to our cruise which means we may stay one day at one hotel, and the remainder at the other!

Right now our tentative itinerary looks like this:

Friday, Dec 2nd Fly in to Orlando :lovestruc
Saturday, Dec 3rd - Park Day!
Sunday, December 4th - Depart for Cruise
Sunday 12/4-12/8 Cruisin' the Bahamas
Thursday, December 8th - Return from cruise, Park Day!
Friday, December 9th - Park Day
Saturday, December 10th - Park Day
Sunday December 11th - Park Day
Monday, December 12th - Park Day
Tuesday December 13th - Half day at park, fly home :(

We currently have 6 park days booked out, give or take. Neither of us has the strong desire to go to Hollywood, so right now we're looking at:

2 days MK
2.5 days Epcot
1 day AK
.5 Hollywood

After this weekend, we'll have our hotels booked. After that, park and meal planning!

Good luck deciding what you want to do. We'll be checking out on the 3rd after staying at WL. We really wanted WL just because we like the theming there so much. The Poly definitely has its advantages too, so I really don't think you can go wrong with either one.

If I had to pick between cruise or park first, I'd do the cruise first and the park last. I just love the parks so much that I think the cruise would be a bit of a letdown. On the flip side though, the cruise might be some much needed relaxation after a week in the parks.

Our Hotel Choice

This was such a difficult decision, but we know we'll eventually going back to WDW so we buckled down and made a decision. We have decided to stay at.....

The Grand Floridian AND The Polynesian Resort!

disney-Polynesian-Resort-1.jpg
= The best of both worlds!

We decided we would come in on the Friday before our cruise and stay two days at the GF since we'll have the weekend. When we return, we will be staying at the Poly.

While the WL seemed wonderful, we wanted something directly on the monorail. Additionally, two of our best friends who we didn't even know were major Disney lovers had so much fun at the Poly so that really swung it for us. We'll definitely be heading to WL while we're there to check out the decor.

Now that the resort decision is complete, next up is our itinerary! Which park should we visit for the Saturday and half Sunday we have pre-cruise?

Thanks for saying hello! We have decided to do the cruise first because we can get more days at WDW based on DH's work schedule. We can't wait!

Is there any easy way to upload photos, or do I need to host them somewhere else? Thanks if anyone is reading!

Hello joining in. we are planning a trip for early december as well. This would be our first time going around Christmas. I upload my pictures to photobucket and then from there copy and paste them here.

Hi Pam thanks for stopping in to say hi and the photobucket tip! We are so excited to see all of the decorations, and looking forward to it not being too crazy. I will go check out your PTR!

I'll join in the fun! We are heading to WDW in Dec as well. And believe me, until you start calling your kids and dh by Disney character names because you can't remember there real names anymore.... then you are OBSESSED! :rotfl2:

Looking forward to hearing your plans. We are still trying to decide between onsite or off site stay. :confused3

Thanks for saying hi! One of my very good friends is vegan, as are two of my employees. We also sell lots of vegan treats at our bakery! I know there's a place that does vegan cupcakes at one of the parks, yum!

The Most Important Meal of The Day

Have I mentioned I'm a foodie? Now I know that we are talking park food here, but I believe that with research and listening to other's experiences you can have a fun and tasty meal with friends and family anywhere, anytime! It's not always about the food, it's about the experience. My DH and DS share my passion for food and we often plan our vacations around our meals. It's no surprise I know where I'm eating for breakfast each day, but we don't yet have our park itinerary mapped out. ;)

Without further adieu, our breakfast meals are below. Lots of character dining, and I'm including prices (pre tip/tax) just so I can have sort of a general food budget. We have not yet decided if we're doing any of the dining plans. :)

We will have 7 days of breakfast, and I'll be booking 6 breakfasts when it's time to do ADRs. We're having one free day, and knowing us we'll end up canceling one based on how we feel once we get there. We're also staying Club level so we can eat in that lounge when we want a quick bite.

The O-Crew's Breakfast Plan:

Ohana Lilo & Stich Polynesian $56.00 Buffet
Crystal Palace Pooh MK $56.00 Buffet
Whispering Canyon Wilderness $35.00 Standard Bkfst
Tusker House Donald WP $56.00 Buffet
1900 Park Fare Mary Poppins GF $58.00 Buffet
Boma AK Lodge $56.00 Buffet
Kona Cafe Polynesian $20.00 Standard Bkfst

Next up, planning our park days. After that we can plan our lunches and dinners, and make a list of the best snacks for when we're on the go!

:cool1: That's awesome, if you remember what park and what place please let me know. I have not run across anything to suggest where I might find a treat like that!! :)

Dinner is Served

First breakfast, and now dinner is done! We've made our dinner choices which will lead me to the most important plans of all - park days! Once park days are chosen we'll be able to pick activities and lunches and oh the fun that will ensue!

Here are our dining plans, and this weekend I'm getting together with a good friend to plan park days. Our hotels are booked, and I need to start watching airfares. I'm waiting for SW fares to come out but I'm also afraid prices are going to continue to climb. Eeek!

Dinner for six days:

Victoria & Alberts for Mama and Daddy's night out!
Jiko
Le Cellier Candlelight Processional Ressie
Hoop De Doo Review
California Grill for the little guy's 4th bday dinner!
Flying Fish

Happy Sunday! Not much new to report. Oh, one exciting thing! DH is leaving work early on Friday so we get into ORD at 6 instead of 10! We won't be doing the parks that night, but it'll be great to get in, have dinner, relax, hopefully see some fireworks and start bright and early the next day.

So we've booked our CL at the Poly and I'm kind of surprised I haven't heard from the concierge desk yet, I wonder how long it takes?

My official 180 days out is June 5th! I'm so excited because once I get all of my ADRs and I'm at the 6 month point it'll seem so so real.

I've started looking around for Disney themed shirts for the little one. Since we're going on a cruise I am hunting for some cute pirate shirts, and some Toy Story shirts. I found this Small World one I LOVE and I'm heading to Nordstrom tomorrow to get it:

http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/disney-...77707?origin=PredictiveSearch&resultback=1397

I'm also starting to think about DS's birthday cake. His bday dinner will be at Cali Grill and I've heard that the cakes are great there. Since he's so into pirates I'm planning on doing a cute pirate themed cake. Can't wait!

That's all for now, next I'm going to need to figure out where our kickoff vacation meal will be when we get in Friday night. Any ideas?

April Update

I can't believe it's been nearly a month since I've posted! Not much planning has occurred since my last update. I have started a to do list and need to update it here. I've also moved some potential dining places around so we're not doing so much running around and it flows a little better.

I'm also halfway through the Unofficial Guide to WDW with Children. So far, it's great!

I'm also having booking remorse about the first start of our stay. We've booked GF, but now I'm thinking we should change it to WL. Ugh, this is what happens when you book this far out. :p

We've also decided to do the DxDP. DH wants to not even have to think about carrying around money/card, so we'll just pre-pay for it all.

Here's my current to do list:
Buy trip insurance
Order Cake - PIRATE THEMED!
Book Pirates & Pals
Buy Pirate shirts
Book MVMCP
Inform resort that this is Jack's bday so we can have it tied to our ressie!

June Update
Holy moly, it's JUNE? As of yesterday we're 6 months out from our trip! :cool1:

Today I booked our plane tickets, and all of our hotel ressies are secured. We are now flying in on Thursday because we want a full day at the parks on Friday. We've also changed our days around a bit. I'm getting REALLY excited, and I'm two days away from booking ADRs, I can't believe it!

DONE
Buy tickets to MVMCP
Purchased plane tickets
Secured hotel reservations
Added DxDP

TO DO
Pay off hotel rooms
Book sedan to/from airport/hotel
Book Pirate's Adventure
ADRs
Arrange birthday cake for DS
Explore any other options/activities
Book CP

Things we had considered doing but opted out of:

Pirates & Pals - we're not big into fireworks and have been told we'll have a great view from the Poly

Pirate Adventure - DS is turning 4 in this trip so he barely makes the age cutoff. DH isn't comfortable, so maybe next time?

Dessert at Wishes - again, not feeling that up and close for the fireworks is incredibly important to us considering we'll have a view from the Poly

Things we're still considering:

Hmm, what am I missing, if anything?

June Update #2

I am happy to report that I booked all of my ADRs for the first leg of the trip, and part of the second leg of the trip. Sadly I'm waiting again for my 180+ 10 for December 11, 12 + 13th. I don't really understand how I can be 177 days out but not book at this point for the 11, 12 + 13th. The whole +10 doesn't extend, it's literally +10 and stops on that date which was 12/10, it doesn't continue as weeks go by. Confusing.

In any case, I'm happy that we got all of our ADRs, though I'm still waiting on HDDR. Those on the dining board say to wait and it will be loaded eventually. The dining reservation specialist I spoke with told me to book an alternate ressie for the night we want HDDR, this makes me think they may be announcing a renovation of some sort in the near future.

We've also decided not to do the Candlelight Processional package. My research tells me that it might be lost on DS so we'll be in Epcot one night it's showing and see how it goes. I'm not making a special ressie for it though.

We booked the Pirate's League and I was surprised to find they only had one reservation for the day we were looking at. They told me it's super popular and books up at 180 days out!

I found out that I cannot book DS's cake until 90 days out from our dining date. I've found a few cakes I love so that gives me more time to ponder the possibilities. :surfweb:

Some ideas:

Cute and simple and I love the colors!

pirate-cake-789509.jpg

Love the detail of this cake, would want something with more vibrant colors since he's only 3

May272011114.jpg

Age appropriate and adorable, maybe something like this with treasure chest elements and the scroll from pic above

72341-pirates-cake-kit-close-up.jpg

So many cute cakes to pick from, I'm sure Disney will come up with something great for us!

October 4, 2011 Update

Yikes, the two month countdown is on! I can't believe it's just around the corner. After Halloween I know time will fly by.

I feel really out of it because after the ADR craziness back in July and booking the cruise, I think everything is done! I had a few months of obsessiveness and now I am just plain EXCITED.

Been buying lots of tshirts at Target and Old Navy that are Disney based and I think I have enough for the whole trip. I even got a couple for myself and DH and I think we will be appropriately Disneyfied when we arrive. :D

I have some things on my To Do list, and I need to figure out what we're doing on the cruise. I've only been on one cruise before and we really just had to show up, but I know I need to book Palo and maybe some shore excursions. I suppose I'll get on that this weekend!

TWENTY FIVE DAYS! I can't believe it's already almost here. A year's worth of planning and I know the next few weeks will fly. We're pretty much done with planning, now it's time to have fun!

I have to be honest I'm having some anxiety about the parks. I know they are huge, will we get lost? Will we end up waiting in line all day as newbie tourers? I did read the Touring Plans book, and download the app for my phone, but I also don't want to be super commando about this trip. I also don't want to miss out.

Augh, is it normal to get pre-trip anxiety? I just want to be there - now!

Well, this has been kind of a quiet PTR but I hope someone out there enjoyed following along with me. I'll check in a few more times before we go!
