We’ve recently returned from a nice, long, two-week stay at WDW at BWV. And you all just knew that I had to check in here to let you know how it went for us. Without any additional comments about the rain or the park crowds, here are my impressions of the “DVC experience” from this trip:

Check in
We checked into the resort at 11:00 a.m. and to our delight our room was ready!! What a great bonus it is to get right into the room. We were ready and willing to wait until 4:00 for the room, but it sure is nice not to have to wait to unpack! :D

The front desk CM, Linda, was very sweet and greeted us with a hearty “Welcome Home”. She did a great job in getting us set up, and then added a little “magical touch” by calling our room later in the day and left a message asking if everything was to our satisfaction, and to let her know if we needed anything! Obviously, she will be prominently mentioned in my note to Disney management! Anyone know who I should be writing to?

Room Number & Description
We were in a 2 BR (lock off, of course) Standard View accommodation….numbers 5075 (1BR) & 5073 (Studio). This villa had three separate small, open-air balconies (not solid wall) off each of the rooms. The room is designated as Non-Smoking.

Room location & views
Okay, I’ll admit it. We got really lucky and were only two rooms away from the elevators on the fifth floor!! We didn’t request to be close to the elevators, and we don’t think the walk is all that bad even to the farthest rooms, but it was handy to be that close to the elevators, especially for a 13 night stay. The rooms look out over the drive-up valet parking/unloading area in the front of the resort. Looking to our right was the driveway and the parking lots, though they are so nicely landscaped that we didn’t feel like the view was boring in any way. We could see only the highest fireworks for Illuminations for those that like that.

Room condition
The overall cleanliness and room condition upon arrival was excellent. Knowing that I don’t tend to inspect for these things closely enough, I got down on my knees and did manage to find a few flecks of mildew in the shower area. And a couple of small (1/8”) paint chips in the bottom of the connecting doorway from the studio. But that was about it….overall, we found the accommodations to be their usual first-class level.

The fold out sofa in the studio portion was comfortable for my DD13, but since we drove we threw in one of those egg-carton foam pads and it made it even more comfortable. If we were flying, I wouldn’t even think about it but since we drove we just jammed it into the back of our minivan!

The room was labeled as Non-Smoking and we did not smell even a hint of smoke. That’s important to us as my daughter has allergies and asthma.

One glitch…on the third day we had no hot water in the morning. Evidently, the boiler went out on them the night before. The CM at Muscles & Bustles was very nice when my daughter went down there to take a hot shower (DW & I roughed it with cold showers in the villa!). By the time we came back to our room that afternoon, the hot water had returned.

Noise
We received a notice in our packet that they were refurbishing some pipes around the BWV during our stay. We never heard anything in the way of noise regarding that. We did hear some noise from the landscapers as they cut the grass, trimmed and used blowers to clear the sidewalks. But that was because we slept in most days and they couldn’t wait forever for us to leave our villa!

Mousekeeping
We received Trash & Towel and Full Cleaning on the appropriate days and the maids were very accommodating to our “Do not disturb” signs that we had on the door until late in the mornings. Cleaning was good and no problem with towel counts.

We did walk through the hallways a lot and in the two weeks we were there, we didn’t see any trash sitting in bags in the hallways as others have reported.

Bus Service
I have to admit that our past experience with bus service at BWV had been less than great. But on this trip, the bus service was fantastic! I decided to time our various trips and the longest wait we had was 20 minutes for a DTD bus one evening. All in all, we took 8 bus trips from BWV, and the waits ranged from 2-20 minutes, with only two of the waits exceeding 12 minutes.

Most of the bus routes were shared with the Swan & Dolphin only….no Beach or Yacht Club stops. I know that there was one route that still shared with all five of the other resorts, but I can’t remember which one it was. Still, the bus service for this trip was first class, in our opinion.

CM’s
I have to say that the BWV CM’s continue to excel in their attitude and desire to satisfy the guests. Every single CM we met was at a minimum courteous, and most were downright friendly. The front desk staff was excellent every time we needed them (which was fairly often since they handled Guest Services much of the time). The valet parking guys were all hustling and very helpful, always asking if we needed directions. And the guard shack guards gave us a “welcome home” every time, especially the older gentlemen who gave us the “WC” along with a sharp salute!! I could swear it was the same guy who did that for us during our VWL stays!

Bottom line
First class personnel, first class accommodations, first class resort. We look forward to many more stays at this beautiful resort with its wonderful location.

Granny, great to hear your trip went so well (outside of the rain and crowds)! We are booked at BWV over the Christmas holidays and are waitlisted for mid-October (but aren't hopeful of getting that)!

BTW, we purchased a VWL contract and are waiting on ROFR right now -- it was a sweet deal and I really love that place!

Welcome back to the boards!

RuthnPaul, your fellow Missourians

Thanks for the very detailed report. We are staying at the BWV for the first time in December and it is so nice to read these reports and hear about everyone's experience!

Thanks!

Thanks for the great report! Nice to see your name! I always enjoy your posts!

Thank you Granny :flower3: for taking the time to post a wonderful trip report. I am biased toward the kind where mostly everything was great ::yes:: :teeth:

Thanks for the great report. Loved the organization! Glad you and you're family had a great time, also. We had wanted to try BWV in early January but they didn't have any availability in a studio for the dates we wanted, so we're going to stay at SSR. Looking forward to the day when we can stay at BWV!

Thanks again!!

Thanks Granny! Glad you had a great trip. Your experience with BWV is the same as mine has always been.

We have a standard view 2br in Dec - I was wondering what it would be like if we were right at the entrance. Doesn't sound too bad at all!

Hezzie - I think we will be there at the same time..........I can't remember my countdown until this posts......

Thanks for the report Granny! Sounds like you had a great time! Two weeks sounds wonderful, I will probably be doing 2 - 3 weeks in the summer when the kids get a bit older and we can't pull them out of school.

Hi Granny, great to see you back on the boards. Thank you for the wonderful trip report. Sounds like you had a great two week respite with the Mouse. ::MickeyMo

Welcome home! That's quite a long stay at BWV! I wish we would be able to stay that long sometime. Sounds like you also had a great location. ;)

Thanks Granny for such a great detailed report! I'm totally envious of your two week stay!!! Despite the rain I heard about, hope you had an awesome two weeks.

As someone who is departing for BWV in just a few days, your report was music to my ears.. er, well, eyes! We will be getting a 2BR std view too -- only request was NS and upper floor. I had pondered etting one on the end (so as to minimize noise and to see more Illum and less entryway) but it sounds like I have nothing to fear regardless of near the elevators or away! Every location has its perks.

Glad you had a great trip, and thanks for posting! Funny, when someone posts a bad report, it can seem so dreadfully long... but when it's a glowing report, it's NEVER too long!

Any more details you care to share? (Like places you ate, condition and crowds at the LP pool, etc.?) Eager for info, although soon I'll have our OWN story to tell! :)

One last ?? -- do you find yourself "missing" VWL? I admit it -- as excited as we are about trying BWV (which is our ACTUAL home since '99 and we've yet to try it!) we are missing that Lodge already! In the summer heat, VWL just "feels" cooler! We will be staying at BCV, BWV, and SSR all in this 2 week trip... everything but VWL! Last trip we stayed almost 2 weeks at VWL alone. So how 'bout it -- did you have withdrawal?

THanks again!

Granny,
I am personally shocked that you could drive that far and not end up tucked peacefully into the trees where you belong. It's a good thing I can still type because I sit here speechless. You traded the whoosh, pshhhhh, and fomp of Fire Rock for some orange haired clown? Lucy, ya got some splainin' to do.

Granny:

Good to hear from you. Great report. Looking forward to my 8 night trip in a couple of months. Does this mean you didn't do the Universal trip or did you make it there for a weekend? (I know eveyone! It's bad enough that Granny didn't stay at the VWL but the fact that I also mentioned Universal in the post is close to blasphemy, sorry all)

I really enjoyed reading your excellent trip report! I'm glad to hear what a great DVC experience you had at BWV. Especially glad to hear that your bus experiences were good ones. Thanks for taking the time to post! :D

Granny,

We had these same 2 rooms for our Spring Break Trip this past March. We really liked the location, too. In March, we were able to have the balcony doors open much of the time, and there was some noise from the buses (not Disney buses, but tour busses delivering groups). It was fun to watch the people come and go.

Wow - two weeks - I can only dream.

Thanks for the report,
Lissa

Wow, Granny. A very thorough trip report. You are responsible for making me even more anxious for our October trip to the BWV (as if that was possible!:p ).

Glad you enjoyed your stay. Thanks for sharing the details with us!

Wow! Thanks for all the kind responses.....just reminds me of how kind the vast majority of people on this board are!! :)

This may take a couple of posts, but I would like to respond to a few of the comments.

RuthnPaul....thanks for the "welcome back" and congratulations on your VWL contract. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you guys to clear ROFR!!::yes::

To those who commented about being there for two weeks...yes, it is a long time! Our longest trip before this was 9 days, and we definitely noticed the difference a few more days makes. The last few days, we just figured out what we hadn't made it to yet and went to those parks for just that and then bounced over to another park. So we saw pretty much everything that we wanted to see.

We played miniature golf at Fantasia Gardens for the first time. That was a lot of fun, and no crowd at all during the afternoon. With the AP 50% discount, it was very reasonable as well. (DVC has a 15% discount).

The rain was really only bad the first three or four days. Some of that off and on, all day drizzling stuff. After that, it was more typical Florida summer with hot, sunny mornings and a storm in the afternoon with a clear evening. But those first few days, we often said how depressing it would be if we didn't know we'd be there long enough to outlast the wet spell!!

Those were our only two requests as well. Just got lucky with the room we got, though frankly we don't really care where our room is located. And the view is not that big of a deal to us, though when we were assigned this room I did enjoy sitting on the balcony and watching the people checking in (happy and excited) and checking out (dragging and depressed).

We ate our breakfasts in the villas, and usually had a big lunch/early dinner mid-afternoon. We only made two PS while we were there...one for a Fantasmic dinner package (the only way to go in the summer) and one for 50's Prime Time. Other than that, we walked into Brown Derby (twice...love that Cobb salad), San Angel Inn, ESPN Club a couple of times, Big River Grill, Spoodles and others. Never had a wait of more than 10 minutes, and usually sat right down.

The Luna Park Pool was crowded many days, but looked to be in fine condition. My DW and DD's (15 & 13) actually prefer the quiet pool where they can hang out in a more leisurely fashion and enjoy the Community Hall. Both pools were in good shape, as was Community Hall. We took advantage of the free DVD rental and I enjoyed playing some air hockey and video games with my daughters. (snip)

I have to be honest...we did miss VWL. But one of the reasons we bought at BWV was to avoid burning ourselves out on our beloved VWL by going there every year. And we do enjoy the Boardwalk area quite a bit. Besides, it was the point rate of the BWV Standard View that allowed us to stay 13 nights!

I suggested at one point that we should all go over and "visit" WL, but everyone agreed that just getting a "small sampling" of WL/VWL would make us "homesick". So we didn't visit there at all, and look forward to our return there next year.
