Had to happen eventually. The well known online auction site is now having listings for VMK. In most cases, these are quest cards from the in park quest. In one, however, a person is offering to go to the park and create "your very own avatar with exclusive 'born in park' badge and black mouse ears".

I wonder how long that auction will stay up considering that the seller would have to give you the sign-on account and password. Somehow I don't think Disney is going to encourage that.

Before anyone rushes out to bid, just be aware of the VMK House Rules:
9. Don't buy or sell accounts or items. We reserve the right to cancel any player account that was bought or sold, or player accounts that have bought or sold items.
And under VMK Values:
You Must NOT: (..snip..)
Give away, trade or sell your VMK Character.

You might argue, perhaps correctly, that you'll never get caught. But just be aware of the official rules.

Why I wondered if the auction would last very long. As far as I can tell, both buyer and seller could be in serious trouble over this and not just from being banned. Disney is very protective of the brand and their legal team could be all over this.

I brought it up strictly to bring these auctions to attention for cautionary reasons. Keep in mind to, on the quest items, that there is no guarantee the codes are valid. As I recall, the park quests are single use code so you don't want to buy something that you cannot use.

Breath easier. I've already retracted my offer.

Oh, and Bev, that should be "keep in mind too", not "keep in mind to". Or, perhaps better yet, "Also keep in mind".

And Joe, I'm curious . . . how did you get your VMK name? Webster defines it as:

Main Entry: be·zoar
Pronunciation: 'bE-"zOr, -"zor
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle French, from Medieval Latin, from Arabic dialect bezuwAr, from Arabic bAzahr, from Persian pAd-zahr, from pAd protecting (against) + zahr poison
: any of various calculi found chiefly in the gastrointestinal organs -- called also bezoar stone

Yuk! Care to enlighten? And don't give me that "magical stone" line. I'm goin' with Webster.

I would think getting the VMK cards on E bay would be the same as buying any other Disney Collectable.

I don't see where the username/password thing is a big deal, the seller can create a bunch of hotmail accounts so the buyer does not need to give them their personal email

Only if they are used codes. :)

If they are still valid, that's like paying someone to go to WDW or DLR to get the cards for you, is it not?

The whole point of this game (let's face it, folks) is for Disney to shovel more people into the parks, plain and simple.

For you to put "un-used" codes for sale on eBay you are ruining their chance for making more money. Also, by not allowing this, or at least threatening removal from the game, they lower the chances of some random idiot out there posting used cards and claiming them un-used. Don't be gullible, each of these codes is a single use only. Once a person has used them, they're null and void for everybody else.

I wonder what their opinion is on friends GIVING you codes...? Anybody know?

My form of free enterprise is, when someone comes up to me and asks "will you wed me" or "will you be my kid", I say, "Sure, if you give me a Dancing Inferno magic pin in return!"

That's a pretty good approach. "Let's face it", it's all about money, and the kids have to learn it sooner or later. Might as well be in a "safe" environment.

All right! I can't wait to open up my post-wedded VMK bliss law agency. We've already heard about the counselors available. Now we can have divorce proceedings, how to split the rooms, furniture and magic pins, and of course, alimony payments for the virtual kids!

Or not.

One more chance Joe!

LOL, you added to your original post, so I never saw the question. Sorry about that.

Boring story, but there's a thread here on the VMK forum about posting any stories behind our VMK or Dis names.

That's a good one! Thanks Joe. My character (SonHouse) is based on an old bluesman from the '20s and '30s and who died in 1988. Hairballs and blues guitarists, not much Disney there, is there? Except, wait a minute, isn't that the essence of Disney? Fun and diversity? Thanks again and Bev says "Hi" too.
