AGLET – We're Gonna Tour The World Together! Updated 11/9!!!

So! I'm sniffling and wiping tears away from watching the Jim Henson memorial videos (and all other related videos YouTube offered me) how beautiful. I've never seen those before! I love the muppets!
I'd like to get in Muppets with no one there so I could take some pictures like that but until that happens I'm just going to admire yours!
Still no hat!? Oh no!

Been reading the entire thread, and I'm loving it.

I'm currently down here at the Poly for the week, also in Tokelau, I can understand how you feel bout the resort, but I don't know, I think it has quite a few positives, but then again I'm a sucker for Earth Tones, Reds, Oranges, etc so it doesn't feel like I'm surrounded by depressing colors.

Welcome!! Glad to have you here!! :goodvibes

How fun that you're at Disney right now! I hope you're having a wonderful time!!! :yay:

Hahahaha I never thought the Poly was depressing, especially with all of the pretty flowers around! It's just a little TOO earth-toned for me! I'm glad you like it!

Yum! I love Tonga Toast! How nice to be able to just walk from your room to Kona Cafe!

I will have to check out that movie about Elmo! Sounds very neat since I am a Muppet nut!

That was a great perk of staying at the Poly - proximity to Tonga Toast!! :thumbsup2

You definitely should! It's a great movie!

That was pretty much exactly what I was doing when I first saw them too!

I know people race to rides with bigger lines in the mornings, so that's why it's so quiet there. It was kind of like what we did with the Haunted Mansion this trip, going there first to avoid the crowds. It was very nice and peaceful!

(I’d like to preface this update by saying that I really have not been looking forward to writing about this one chapter of our trip. Nothing bad happened, however, it does make Wingnut and I seem really lame and boring, and I promise that we are much more fun than this story makes us sound.)

(Well, not THAT much more fun.)

---

We wandered back in the direction of Toy Story Mania to find that it had reopened, and so we headed inside to redeem our FP’s. We went through the FP queue, and so we didn’t get to see all of the fun toy elements, but what we did see was pretty cool.

Proof that yes, we FINALLY went to TSM:

Here is the point in my trip report that I’m positive that I will lose approximately every last ounce of my Dis credibility, and absolutely no one will trust my opinion ever again. Ready?

We did not like Toy Story Mania.

(Yeah, I know.)

I can hear people now throwing up their hands in exasperation, “HOW COULD SHE HATE TOY STORY MANIA?? THAT’S LIKE HATING CUPCAKES!”

(For the record, I never said the word “hate”.)

(And I like cupcakes. Except for the Red Velvet Cheesecake one.)

(:duck:)

Alright, so I’m sure you’ve noticed by now that Wingnut and I tend to stick to the slower-moving rides. So when the little car thing whipped around the first turn, I knew that this may not have been the most brilliant idea for us. I spent the majority of the ride bracing myself against the front of the ride vehicle, afraid that one of the turns would slam my chest into the gun. Wingnut doesn’t fare much better on these kinds of rides, he has a bad back and gets nauseous on spinning rides.

(Clearly, we are an exciting and fun duo to be around.)

Even with the spinning and other movement aside, I really didn’t see the hype behind the ride. It just seems like a more-brightly lit 3D version of Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, with different pictures. Maybe if I were more enthusiastic about the arcade shooting-style games, I’d be singing the praises of TSM, but it definitely did not make our list of must-do’s. Wingnut, who is far better than I am at these games, wasn’t too enthralled with the ride either.

Anyways, here are our scores. (Told you he was better than I am at these.)

We got off of the ride, and looked at each other in some sort of bewilderment over what had just happened. THIS was the ride that people were practically trampling each other to get on?? :confused3

I had been on the fence about Star Tours since reports were pretty vague over whether it was jerkier than the previous version or not. This kind of sealed the deal for me, and I decided that I did not want to try Star Tours after that (as cool as the new version does look!). Wingnut had been interested in going on the new version, but didn’t want to go if I wasn’t going to (I did offer to keep him company in the queue).

Wingnut left it up to me as to where I wanted to go next, and I picked the tamest attraction that I could think of: One Man’s Dream. :thumbsup2

While Wingnut can take or leave One Man’s Dream, I really do enjoy meandering around the different exhibits. I don’t usually feel bad dragging him in when it’s raining (“it’s dry in there!”), but when he leaves the attraction choice up to me and we’re right by OMD…well, there’s no way I’m passing that up!

We wandered around the familiar exhibits, and then heard the announcement that the movie would be starting momentarily. Wingnut had never seen the movie before, and I couldn’t remember the last time I’d seen it, so it seemed like excellent timing to watch it. Wingnut dutifully followed me into the mostly-empty theater.

If you’ve never seen the movie, it definitely is wonderful and interesting. (And the theater has nice and comfy seats!)

We exited out into the bright sunshine, and decided what to do next. We had an ADR at Sci-Fi for lunch, but we were starting to run out of Things We Absolutely Must Do At DHS Today. Wingnut suggested riding The Great Movie ride again, but I passed. We walked over to see what time the Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular was showing, but it wouldn’t be for another hour and a half or so.

As I had mentioned in the previous update, this was our second to last full day at Disney, and it was beginning to dawn on us that we had yet to have bought any souvenirs by this point. We decided that we should probably do some shopping, and Downtown Disney was our best bet for merchandise selection. Although we had really wanted to go to Sci-Fi for lunch, we decided to leave DHS and cancel our ADR, partially because there wasn’t much else we were compelled to do there (beyond 6 more showings of the Muppets :yay:), and we hadn’t been doing too well on the whole “being hungry for lunch” thing anyways.

“Next time,” we promised ourselves and each other, “we will DEFINITELY go to Sci-Fi.” ::yes::

We made our way out of the park, past the crowds of people at the turnstyles (it was around 10:30 at this point, we were one of the very few groups leaving the park now!), and towards the bus stops.

Sorry you didn't like TSM. :( As a person who gets extremely motion sick, I don't have a problem with the turns. I think the fun of the game is that it changes throughout and keeps you on your toes (or bum, hahaha), whereas Buzz is the same thing over and over. Plus, it's one of the very few kid friendly rides in the whole park. I don't know, I just think it's really fun. But I get that not everything is for everyone. At least now you know!

rest assured, you are not the only one who doesn't like TSM. I think its fun, but I like shooting games, and I enjoying playing it with my DH, because we work well together to get the big targets. If its just me, or if we're not traveling with anyone to watch Everett, we skip it.

Maybe I'm mean mom, but I've never taken Everett on it, and I don't plan to until he gets older and can actually play the game and/or will wear 3D glasses. :3dglasses I just don't see the point of waiting in a long line or wasting a FP on a toddler who won't really get anything out of the ride :confused3

I'm sorry you missed your ADR, I agree that Sci-fi is fun, but not worth waiting around the park for. I hope you guys do make it next time! :thumbsup2

I'm sorry you guys didn't enjoy TSM. Look at it this way, at least you don't have to compete with the stampede in the mornings! :thumbsup2

DH and I can one-up you... we don't really care for TSM, and we really don't like Soarin'.

Honestly, TSM got more fun for me when I was able to ride it multiple times with no wait, and got a little better at shooting. I love shooty-type rides, but I'd rather have a ride that actually is 3D (you know, with actual sets and props and stuff) rather than screens projecting a 3D movie. That's why I prefer Buzz (or better yet, Men in Black at Universal)

I like TSMM, but I by no means love it, nor am I willing to trample anyone to get to it. Ever.

and we really don't like Soarin'.

Blasphemy!!! :scared1:

Isn't it nice that there are so many different kinds of rides, shows, and attractions for so many tastes? ::yes:: :thumbsup2

I was a little underwhelmed with TSM the first time I went on it. I was like, "It's over already?". Even more underwhelming was my score the first time and, the sad thing is, it hasn't gotten much better. :rotfl:

I like how you guys are doing everything so spontaneously and changing up your plans on the fly. It definitely makes for a more interesting trip!

I really like TSM, but I see where you're coming from. The car really does whip you around a lot, and if you're not into arcade games then it'd be pretty underwhelming. It's one of our faves because it's an attraction that our whole family actually enjoys. There really aren't too many that we all agree on.

I hope that you guys had fun at DTD! I keep wanting to try Sci-Fi myself, but have yet to make the ADR.

I totally feel ya on TSM. Okay, not totally. I think I talked about it in my TR, but we were just not wowed by it at all, though we don't have any issues with spinning (in fact, Brynn LOVES to spin...constantly...all day long). We just don't get the hype. We don't hate it, but we also don't get it.:confused3

One Man's Dream is on my list of must-dos for our next trip, even if I have to drag my whole crew in there. I have always wanted to see it, so I WILL.

Too bad about Sci-Fi, but I completely understand getting out of there if you were out of things to do. I feel that way about AK a lot. We'd feel that way about DHS more if it didn't take soooooo loooooong to get everything done using child swap passes:rolleyes:.

You know I love me some Jim Henson, but your last post prompted me to go watch his memorial service again...and as a result, I've had "It's In Every One of Us" in my head for days!!! I'm actually not complaining. I'm thanking you:hug:!

Sorry you guys didn't like TSM! I can see how, with all the jerking, you might not like it it is crazy on that ride, I liked it but I could have done with less jerking.

Okay, thanks to you, finally feel like I can freely admit this. Buuuuut...my family and I don't really don't care for TSM, either. We went on it on our 2010 trip and all of us were just kind of like :confused3 I dunno. We liked it, we thought it was pretty cool and fun, but not enough to make it a point to try to ride again on that trip, or on the following trip. We were kind of baffled that THAT was the ride that always runs out of Fastpasses and has ridiculously long waits. I guess we don't "get" it, but that's fine with me...there's plenty more rides I love! :thumbsup2

One Man's Dream!!! I missed it on this past trip. I've never seen the movie, but I would love to. Definitely something I MUST do on the next trip!

While the rest of my family are TSM nuts, I must confess, I am with you and don't really understand the stampede/trampling for it. It's cute, but not worthy of the hype. Now, I do love the queue with all of the toys -- I think that is pure genius, but maybe that's because I owned most of the toys, including the Old Maid cards, that are featured. LOL!

I really can see why people love the ride, but it just isn't for us I guess! You're right, there aren't too many other kid-friendly RIDES at DHS. (There are plenty of shows, but how many shows can you watch in a day?)

rest assured, you are not the only one who doesn't like TSM. I think its fun, but I like shooting games, and I enjoying playing it with my DH, because we work well together to get the big targets. If its just me, or if we're not traveling with anyone to watch Everett, we skip it.

I'm really relieved to hear it isn't just us!! I totally get the "waiting until Everett can appreciate the ride" idea! Especially for something that gets as crazy as TSM!

I really really do want to get to Sci-Fi at some point! It's hard because we love breakfast and dinner, and are usually not hungry enough for a sit-down meal for lunch!

I'm sorry you guys didn't enjoy TSM. Look at it this way, at least you don't have to compete with the stampede in the mornings! :thumbsup2

Hahahaha exactly!!! :thumbsup2

DH and I can one-up you... we don't really care for TSM, and we really don't like Soarin'.

Wingnut doesn't like Soarin' either!!! It does get a lot more hype than it should I think. But I do think it's a fun ride!

I haven't been on the Men in Black ride, but I've heard it's really fun!

I like TSMM, but I by no means love it, nor am I willing to trample anyone to get to it. Ever.

Blasphemy!!! :scared1:

Isn't it nice that there are so many different kinds of rides, shows, and attractions for so many tastes? ::yes:: :thumbsup2

Hahaha I just couldn't believe the madness around TSM, especially after we rode it!

That truly is one of the best things about Disney. There is definitely something for everyone! :thumbsup2

Hahaha I am absolutely terrible at those shooting-type games! My score is always so bad!

We didn't really make plans for during the day when we were planning the trip. We made our ADR's, and kind of said things like "oh, we could go to DHS this day," but there were no concrete plans. That seems to work the best for us!

I really like TSM, but I see where you're coming from. The car really does whip you around a lot, and if you're not into arcade games then it'd be pretty underwhelming. It definitely is one of the more family-friendly rides in DHS! I think if I were more enthusiastic about arcade games, then I would have liked it more!

I remember you mentioning that in your TR! I think I'm also in the "I don't get it" group too!

You guys should definitely visit One Man's Dream! It really is so interesting to see all of the different models and information!

Hopefully one day we will get to Sci-Fi! It's hard to plan lunches in a park, you never know how long you'll actually want to be there!

Awww you're welcome!! I've had the songs from the memorial service stuck in my head too lately! ("Halfway up the Stairs" and "Just One Person" most frequently!).

Sorry you guys didn't like TSM! I can see how, with all the jerking, you might not like it it is crazy on that ride, I liked it but I could have done with less jerking.

It was a little too jerky for us! I can see how that'd add to the fun of the ride though for more people!

Okay, thanks to you, finally feel like I can freely admit this. Buuuuut...my family and I don't really don't care for TSM, either. We went on it on our 2010 trip and all of us were just kind of like :confused3 I dunno. One Man's Dream!!! I missed it on this past trip. I've never seen the movie, but I would love to. Definitely something I MUST do on the next trip!

Hahahaha I'm so glad we're not the only ones! We literally looked at each other after the ride like you guys, like "really???". :rotfl: You're right, there are plenty of other rides we enjoy!

The movie is really nice! It's not too long too, so it's a nice short little break from standing and walking around!

LOL!

I really don't get it at all either! The queue, I am with you there, is really really brilliant. I loved seeing all of the toys (there was no line, so we were walking through the whole time), I thought it was really well-done!

Awww, sorry to hear you didn't like TSM much! I admit to being a fan from my first ride. I won't hold it against you though. ;) Although I will admit that I don't understand the rush to get there. There are maybe a half dozen other rides in Disney that I would run to first (especially Rock n Rollercoaster!)
I love One Man's Dream. My first time ever in there was during the Year of a Million Dreams promo and DH and I got Dream Fastpasses in there. I guess it gave me a good first impression!

Trust me, I am (partially) with you on this! I REALLY like TSM, but I don't understand the stampede to get there. Although recent TR's I've been reading might be indicating that the rush is dying down...maybe because of Star Tours? :confused3

At any rate, I will not stop reading your TR just because you didn't like TSM! :thumbsup2

Oh! And the Aglet episode of P & F was on last night!

I can take or leave TSMM and definitely don't understand the stampede in the morning. You aren't alone!! :)

Sci Fi has a really neat atmosphere and good burgers, but I am not sure you missed much. An afternoon of shopping sounds good to me!! Souvenirs are a definite must! :thumbsup2

hello!!! I have been busy with boring old real life the last few months and this weekend I finally have time all to myself. I decided it was much-needed Dis catch-up time, and your report is one of the first things I read!

It's been great so far. I've especially loved your food reports and I totally understand what it's like to feel a little self-conscious attending character meals with no children (although, like you, we do it anyway at places with food we just can't pass up.) Also, I just wanted to say that we stayed at the Poly in 2010 and had been looking forward to it and obsessively planning everything....and ended up feeling like it was just OK. I totally get what you are saying-it's a beautiful resort but just not "the one" for us. My true Disney resort dream is actually to stay at the Beach Club, which I know you guys love, so hopefully someday I will get the chance.

Finally, I was so sorry to read about your job....and happy to learn that you have started a new one. It's been a nice morning catching up...thanks again for all your reporting!
