Aggressive Deer

For the last week or so we have had a deer come through our yard every day. This week she has started showing up with two little ones and coming very close to our house (we only live on 1/2 of an acre so the yard is not very big to begin with). She was just grazing on plants beneath my bedroom window and I thought that was a little too close. I went outside to see if she would run off. She just looked at me about 5 feet away and pawed the ground. I ended up running away!:rotfl:

Are deer normally that aggressive? Maybe it is the two little ones with her.

Deer can be aggressive during fawning season and yes you can get injured by them. It was a good idea to run away.

Absolutely, it was the two little ones with her. And the foot stomping means 'back off or else'. I've seen does attack large bucks who were bothering their fawns.

She was protecting her babies from you. I'm surprised she let you get that close without going after you.

Don't ever mess with maternal instinct. Deer can kill if they feel threatened enough.

We usually just rap on the window if they start munching on the landscaping. That gets them to scatter.

Their hooves are super sharp. Don't let your dog out if you see her. She'll stomp the heck outta of him.

Yes! We had a deer one year that we knew was in labor and sure enough, she had the fawn right outside our fence. The next few days she kept coming in our yard when we walked outside (with our dog). She stared us down and looked like she was about to charge us. You don't realize how they are until you are face to face! Needless to say, we ran inside...WITH our dog!

Man, I wish I could get venison delivered right to my door :(

Just wanted to join the group that says to please be careful. They can be aggressive. I don't know if they would be able to help but you might try contacting the Dept of Fish and Game. Maybe they would have some suggestions on how to make your property less attractive to the deer. Thankfully, I have three German Shepherds so mine is the only property they avoid. But I'm surrounded by hills with deer's.

Shred some green Irish Spring soap bars around your house, not sure where but heard it from somewhere.

We have tons of Moms and babies around our house but outside our fence. They've been around long enough that they just look at us for a second then go on their way with the babies. I make it a point if they are staring at me, I still stay outside on my deck but turn and look the other way. Sometimes the babies get freaked out and run but Momma is comfortable enough to do whatever and stick around.

My BIL swears by the Irish Spring thing for mice. Keeps his boat & camper full of it when in storage. We do the same with the boat.

I will try the Irish Spring. I don't mind wild animals but I draw the line when they actually get so close to the house that they are touching it. We have fought a never ending battle with stubborn squirrels in the attic and a huge number of chipmonks in our yard. Some may think we are cruel but we will stop at nothing to get rid of pests. The little baby deer are so cute but we can't live with them practically running around on our back terrace. I would love to invite Gumbo over if the deer are still here in deer season.

Momma deer are extremely aggressive when their babies are near.

If you want to keep deer out of your landscaping or trees get the gold dial liquid soap and coat a pieces of rope and hang in trees or lay in plant beds. I am sure the Irish spring works too, but we always use dial because otherwise we can't keep the deer off my fruit trees.

We have a mother and fawns that stays in the woods between my house and my sister's house. They are not afraid of the dogs or of any of us. She has never acted aggressive though. She just watches us all very intently.

We do not walk toward her though, if they are on one side of the house, we try to stay on the other side.
