We're making our 2nd family trip to WDW in October and our boys are 12 and 8. On our last trip, they were 10 and 6 and loved getting autographs from the characters. What ages have your children stopped wanting autographs? I can't ask the boys if they want to do it again cause the trip is going to be a suprise for them.

DNiece and DNephew did their first trip with us at age 6 and 8, and their second trip at ages 8 and 10. DNephew did not get autographs the first trip (age 6), but DNiece did for both trips, and DNephew did the 2nd trip. They loved the autographs (and DNephew was a bit sad he had decided to skip autographs about half-way through the first trip - we told him he could start that day, and still get some, but he didn't want to be "behind" his big sister).

This is a good question, :thumbsup2
my DD is nearly 11 and traveling with her girlfriend who has never been..... I know the friend will want to get autographs, but since DD has been so many times I just assumed she wouldn't but now you have me thinking.......

[Sigh]

At five my son was "not comfortable" (his words) with the characters.
At seven he was "too old" for them.

I've been cheated! [sulk] I swear I'm having another baby and I'm raising it to be totally character focused. Forget reading and table manners! The next kid will learn to crave autographs!

My 12 year old DS was in no way shape or form interested in autographs. I was surprised because he's a "young" 12, but what can you do? He wanted nothing at all to do with characters. He had his pic with all the other grandkids, grandma and Eeyore (her favorite) only because she insisted. Likewise, I got one pic of both my kids with Mickey because I pretty much begged, lol.

By 10, mine were done wit autographs.

Michelle, I have to beg, too.

Of course, the trade-offs for older kids are awesome, too, so I don't mind too much!

I just asked my boys (11, 9, and 7) and they are not interested in autographs anymore. I think the 7 year old may be just going along with his older brothers though. Also though, I think because they have been a few times and have most of the characters' autographs that they are interested in, it's not really a priority. I may bring the old book and if there is a "new" character I can pull it out. One less thing to stand in line for!

Since it's a surprise, just bring along their autograph books. That way if they want to, you already have the books. And if they don't, no biggie.

My DS is 8, and he still gets autoghraphs. He was REALLY excited about Boba Fett's autograph!

LOL, well that would be a "cool" autograph. Mine might stand in line for Capt. Jack's too! Or I might...:rotfl:

DS7 still likes to meet characters and get autographs. My niece who's 12 is beyond them, but my niece who's 10 still gets them. I think it depends on the kid and how many trips/autographs they have. :confused3

I'd buy an inexpensive autograph book and have it just in case. Or ask them when they get there and buy the official autograph book if they're interested. And ask separately so one isn't influenced by the other.

Thanks for your replies. I think I'll take the advice of being prepared. I have a feeling that since it is their 2nd trip, DS8 will want to do autographs and DS12 (who will have just turned 13) probably won't. I'll be prepared for both. I made their autograph books for our last trip so I'll figure out something for this trip.

my kids are 2,4 and 8. between the 4 and 8 yos we have 6 autograph books kickin around. so i have decided they have reached the point of no more. im sure they would just love to do it again, but i see no point. its not like they get used or anything.
so instead as sort of a compromise, my boys 2 and 4 will be bringing tshirts to chef mickeys for the characters to sign. then if we see any other characters they can get those autographs as well.
my dd,8, will be doing a canvas bag. this way at least the items get used.

I'm 30-something and I really like autographs!! I mean, really really like autographs! :teeth:

So glad I'm not the only one!! DH keeps asking when the kids will want to stop getting autographs. Luckily our youngest is just 1 year old, so I'm covered for a few more years!! :rolleyes1 Hopefully I can really stretch it out with him.

Maybe try an autograph tshirt or baseball hat. I bet the boys will have a lot of fun with that, and you don't have as much work to do.:)

I think the hats or t-shirts are great ideas, especially for our 12 yr old. And, it's a lot less work for me than making an autograph book.
