I am traveling with my 3 kids - 11,14,17

What is the age to ride without an adult, but with older siblings? To ride alone?

I don't ride most thrill rides if I can possibly avoid it. And it seems I may not be able to fit on a few.

Two things to note:
1. My DD17 looks about 15 when dressed up, which she will not be for amusement park. She will not pass for an adult. She probably looks younger than DS14, but he won't pass for an adult either, and I don't want to put them in the position of lying - -that's off the table.

2. My DS 11 is tiny and young looking. He is 53" and is usually mistaken for a 3rd grader.

I was wondering if I need to get him a military ID to prove his age.

Thanks for your help.

I'm have no personal experience, but I think I can help. From what I can tell on the USO website, most rides have: 1) height to ride and 2) height range where they "must be accompanied by a supervising companion." I would interpret that to mean the older teen(s) could accompany the youngest child (assuming all height requirements are met). I would also assume that anyone taller than all height requirements could ride solo. I hope this helps. Have fun!

Imprint sounds correct

Supervising person would be friend, teen sibling, etc

Any of them can ride alone. As long as a kid is at least 48" AND the height for the ride* they can ride alone.

It's not an age mark but a height mark to meet for being solo.

*A 48" kid can ride hippogriff alone but not rip rode rockit bc rrr has a higher than 48" req. make sense?

Supervising companion is for those under 48" but tall enough with the companion. Your 11 year old is above that.

Ooh, excellent news, if any of them want to ride what I think is the most terrifying ride there (and I've been known to cry if ds wants me to ride fearfall, hulk, AND dragon challenge in one day), Pteranodon Flyers.

As long as people are willing to wait each time, the 11 year old will allow the family to ride (one at a time with him).

"Pteranodon Flyers™
  • Please note that Pteranodon Flyers™ is designed for children 36"–56" tall. A child meeting this requirement must accompany guests over 56" tall. Children between 36"–56" must be accompanied by a supervising companion."
So if he wants to ride and another one of you does as well, he gets you on. But if more than one of you wants to go with him, he'll have to wait multiple times in the line, once with each other rider.

Thanks gang!

Hmmm. Maybe we can do the flyers while the big kids ride the Hulk. Unless he eeks out that last 1/2 inch

IMG_9402.jpg at disney if the child meet the high requirements and is 7 years or older, they can ride alone, I show here my brave 8 year old riding by herself Dinosaurs, Also my then 10 year old niece rode Rock it at Universal by herself

She is brave!

Age vs height is funny. Our first Orlando trip was when my son was 6.5. He was well over 48" and could have ridden many things alone because they only go by height. He didn't, until the end of one day when he wanted to ride the Nuthouse coaster 15 times in a row (we had ridden Hippogriff 14 times in a row to start our day...on the last ride I noticed the ride-alone sign).

Meanwhile, at Disney he wasn't even allowed to ride the carousel alone because of his age. :)
