Age for dolphins at Discovery Cove

I know the age limit is 6, how strict are they? Do they require proof of a child's age?

My assumption is that the age limit is there for legal liability purposes. While I can't say for sure, I would guess that they may ask for proof of age for that reason.

I agree with Gina, they probably have some liability insurance that only covers over the age of 6. That said, when we went we only had those people who were over 21 asked for proof of age as the pass that they give you says basically that your old enough to drink. Our youngest was 7 when we went but wasn't asked for any I.D. for her. Maybe it would depend on how old your little one looked.

Dumb question, but how realistic is it that a parent would carry proof of age for a child with them? I'm guessing that the only thing you could provide to prove a child's age is a birth certificate (or a certified copy of one). My littlest monkey turns 6 in April and I never thought of having to provide proof of his age never entered my mind.

Well, us non-Americans have to carry passports....so proof of age is always on hand when we are in Orlando.

For whatever reason, they have set the age limit to 6 years old. Which is the youngest age limit for any animal interaction; for Marine Mammal Keeper and Beluga Interaction you have to be at least 10 years old; and even for some of the tours you have to be at least 8 years old. For whatever reason, they probably don't feel it's safe for anyone younger than 6 to be doing the interaction. I would be surprised if they asked for any kind of ID for a child; as most US children that age don't have any real form of ID. I'm sure it's on an honesty basis, so are you willing to teach your children that it's okay to lie to get what you want? I think that's the bigger lesson here......Also keep in mind they have the right to refuse to do any interaction if they feel it will be unsafe for the guest or animals, so you could still be turned away.
