I'm just back from two very happy weeks in WDW, and wanted to mention that one of the highlights was Afternoon Tea at the Grand Floridian. I took my 75-year-old mother (who is British) and we had a really lovely time. We ordered three items: the fruit and cheese plate, the scones with Devonshire cream, and the trifle, and they were served to us as three separate courses, along with plenty of tea of course. The setting was beautiful and the food outstanding. I can still taste those wonderful hot scones, with little pieces of apricot, and the cream just melting into them. Yum! Anyone looking for a relaxing break from a busy day at MK should consider this - it was great. Our server - Crystal - was very attentive and friendly and really added to the experience as well.

Did you have an ADR, or did you just walk-in? The reason I'm asking is that I am giving my DH a gift certificate for the Richard Petty ride-along for Christmas. Since that doesn't need a reservation, I figured we would just wait until we get there to figure out where to fit it into our schedule. I thought if he went in the afternoon, it would be fun for DD and I to go to the Afternoon Tea. We are going in January, so the crowds should be lower, but I wondered if I would need an ADR. I would love to do it; it sounds lovely!

We did have an ADR but there seemed to be people just walking in as well. The restaurant was not full while we were there - the table beside us was empty the whole time, as I recall. I think you will love it!

We had tea last week as well and loved it too! Very relaxing and we had fun catching up with friends over tea. I would say it may vary with getting an ADR. We were scheduled right at 2:00 (the earliest time) because our kids were at the Wonderland Tea Party which started at 1:15 (the husbands picked the kids up while we women had a nice chat!). The restaurant was full that day because along with us, a group of the "Red Hat Society" ladies were also having tea. I would guess threre were about 30 of them so it was us, them and one or two other tables and the place was filled. They were all dressed up in the purple suits and red hats and there were a lot of them so I'm guessing that they were local and not vacationing. I have no idea how often that happens but at least at our time, it was pretty full. They looked like they were having a great time!

Quick questions:

When making a ADR, what restaurant is this occuring at and what is the approximate cost?

We really loved this experience. It was really a well earnt break from the parks where you could enjoy great food and good tea in a relaxed atmosphere. It made us feel quite posh drinking tea from such fine china and having dainty sandwiches! Im going again in June. Well worth the money which I think was around $50 for two adults having the grand tea.

I'm glad to hear such good reports. My parents who are in their late 60's are coming for their first Disney trip next year and i have booked this as a treat for them (and me!)

I just tried to book for the Friday and there is no availability! Maybe I will try that day & see if they can accomodate me as a walk in...

I recommend this too -- it's truly a relaxing step out of the whole rat race (or mouse race!) for a couple of hours. Very refreshing, even if you don't like tea!

I love the tea especially the strawberries and cream!! Would this be an acceptable use of the dining plan and would it be considered a "table service"?

When I made my ADR for May 2006 the CM for dining said this wasn't included on the dining plan. We still booked. I'm especially looking forward to the experience :goodvibes

We did this last March...myself, my mom and my 18 (at the time) yo niece. Mom & I LOVED it. The niece...not an adventurous eater and even tho' she was being treated to the meal she refused to order as we suggested. So she was shocked at the end when we got dessert and she didn't. She kept grumbling about the waste of money :confused3 plus she was starving when we were finished. It was actually kind of funny...even our server was amused by her.

Anyway we did it without reservations because I figured it was a slow period but the down side of not having them is that they made us wait for seating after all of the ADRs and then in the order we walked up. Plus the amount of seating is comparatively small.

Another point is...I ate there solo in the past by coming later in the day. This is also a mistake because apparently that day they ran low on supplies. It was okay because I'm flexible and they made up a special presentation for me but some of the things I specifically wanted to try were gone.

So in the future (and there will be a future) I will do it with ADR's.
