hello.

im thinking that as this is our first visit to DLP we should do at least one character meal. but being on a tight budget im finding it hard to justify the expense. as its the cheapest option, im wondering what the afternoon tea with characters is like?

hectic? mad rush from the parade to get there in time? too much sugary stuff which will make the kids even more hypo? a free for all scrum? as my kids arent exactly pushy, i would hate to pay out and then not meet anyone.

also how much do you get to eat, bearing in mind dh is always hungry. im not planning on it being a full meal, more a late lunch/afternoon filler to tide us over until evening meal

Hi Flea and welcome to DLP DIS board :wave2:

If you have not had a look yet, posting guidelines can be found here and details regarding help on signatures here

It definitely appears from others reviews that sweet stuff constitute the bulk of the offering, but there are some savory choices.

Have a look at the reviews of Plazza Gardens in the Restaurant sticky :thumbsup2

OP, a "cheap" character meal could be Cafe Mickey. It's at the Village, and it has lots of characters at certain times (breakfast, lunch, dinner, but not in between, although the restaurant is open then).

At breakfast it's a buffet, adn rather expensive. At lunch and dinner, it's a la carte. There is a set price 3-course menu (with choices), however, I'm a big eater, and that's way too much!
I only take a main course now, and last time, that was even a lot. Appetizers are also huge, I think next time, I'll order an appetizer and share dessert with the persons I'm with :) Or no dessert if I'm too full.

Since you can order what you want (not a set buffet price), it doesn't have to be expensive, and it's lots of fun!

We had the character tea 2 weeks ago and really enjoyed it.
There were loads of different types of cakes but also sausages, ommlette, hash browns, pizza, bread, croissants, jam, chocolate spread, fruit salad etc.
There were hot and cold drinks. You could help your self to as much as you wanted and go back as many times as you wanted.
The characters came to the table- we saw 9 in all.
As there was a queue to get food and the characters had started coming round I went to collect food for us all and DH stayed at the table with DD to make sure she wasnt missed out.
We thought it was good value for money and meant we didnt really need a meal that evening- we just grabbed a croque later on.
It was a bit chaotic at first as everyone is let in at the same time. We hadnt paid in advance so were then taken to the till to pay whereas those who had paid were taken straight to their table so it is esaier to pay in advance if possible
