Can you tell me about the tea at the GF? How long does it last? Cost? Is it fun or too stuffy? I'm considering taking my DD7 there for some girl time, but I'm worried that she may find it boring. Thoughts?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts! :)

There are several different teas that you can purchase, from just a pot of tea, to tea and sandwiches and more. Check out the menu to see all the different options!

If you click on the link in my signature on page 10 of my wedding journal, you can read about my experiences there. We had a five year old with us who was in heaven at the tea!

NOTE1: The "Tea" is in a gracious atmosphere overlooking
the pool and gardens of the Grand Floridian. A relaxing way
to put a civilized break into a hectic park day. A negative
for the true tea aficionado, is they serve only Pekoe (OP)
grade for non-green tea. Reservations are almost a must.
Casual "park attire" is fine, or you can "dress up". You may
order packages or ala-carte from the menu. Anyone can
order any package, exception being no alcohol for underage
drinkers. Plan upon 1½-2 hours if you do it right and enjoy
a relaxing respite. I may sound "stuffy" or "uppity", but not
really. It is just people in a quite and sedate atmosphere.

NOTE2: This is not up to the par of either the High Tea or
the Afternoon Tea at The Savoy, so our Brit friends might
be slightly disappointed, but it is a good way to spend an
afternoon.

We enjoy the tea. I think its a good experience. The first time I took my DD she was 7 and absolutely loved it! We have a ADR next month and we are very excited! The package I get is usually around $25.00. I believe the children's package is around $12.00 and my DD always gets real tea instead of milk or whatever it normally comes with. I would highly recommend trying it!

We tend to do a la carte or one of us get the package and the other order a la carte. Each tea pot gives about 4 servings of tea, enough for two people to share! Our favorite is the Nobo Whole Fruit Tea, but I've also had the Breakfast Tea which is good. It really is cool, we had a 9 year old near us last year and I overheard her saying she loved it. You may want to skip out on the tea sandwiches, I believe we had shrimp salad, egg salad, cucumber, chicken curry and something else b/c of your daughter. But the scones and strawberries and cream and the onion tarts are amazing!

That's really good to know that you can substitute tea (or herbal infusion as the one my son loves actually is) in the Mrs Potts.

So in May and then July there were bonafide reports that the a la carte menu was not allowed. That it was package-only, with the ability to order, for instance, an EXTRA scone, but you couldn't JUST order the scone.

No one was able to really answer if you have to buy a package for each person at the table, or other questions like that.

For my family we can't order a package for everyone, so if it's gone to that we wont' be able to do it anymore. We'll see in October.

For now, though, know that they seem to be experimenting with their menu, working out if they offer ONLY packages or if a la carte is possible for those who simply do not eat (in one sitting) as much as is in a package. Especially when you take the sheer quantity of tea they put in one tea pot, one's stomach can get quite full!

But anyway, it wasn't *fun*, but it wasn't boring, either. It's not stuffy. It's lovely. The first time I was there (with my aunt, cousin, and her daughter who was 4 and LOVED it) we got to see a bride and groom having pictures taken just outside the big windows. :)

Be careful when you book. It is from 2:00 pm-5:00 pm in the Garden View Tea Room. Lately there have been some CMs who keep booking people for the wrong thing.

FYI: There was a thread a week or two ago saying the ala carte menu was no longer available, just the packages.

We love the tea and do it every time we go. Is it a "real high tea"?? No, but then again they don't have "real" pirates in WDW either. :rotfl: It is Disney after all. It will prob be overpriced for some and not "authentic" for others, but we love sitting in the Tea Room and it really is a nice escape from the frantic pace of the parks at times. The scones are fantastic & so are the teas. Our fav has always been the "Mad Hatter" tea and also "Eros" tea. The sammies are just so-so, but you're really paying for the experience so enjoy! :goodvibes

Happened to me! Should have known, too, because she booked me for 1:50. :headache:

DD and I did it for her 9th birthday and really enjoyed it. We'd like to do it again sometime. This was in March when the parks were fairly busy and so the nice quiet tea was relaxing. We had a seat by the window which was nice too. DD didn't care much for the sandwiches but loved the strawberries and cream and the scones.

Are you guys absolutely sure because I have this booked in Dec and I repeatedly asked the CM on the phone if this was the correct tea ressie because of the early time and she reassured me over and over.....

Just wanted to say that I just called about my ressie in Dec at 1:35 to check again and make sure it was Afternoon Tea and the CM confirmed it is and she added that in different parts of the year the times do change from the 2-5pm time frame, so apparently that is no longer the case?

We are also going in Dec and were given a one something time the first call we made to book the afternoon tea. When we called back the CM we spoke to said it is only from 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm and even though when I checked the ressie on the website and it listed the correct room the person we spoke to said that anything before 2 is for something else and we were booked incorrectly and our ADR got changed.

Ugh! Then how many different CM's do I have to talk to before someone says this? I am calling a questioning my time multiple times and they are all saying it's correct. What do I do? I made this ressie at the 180 day mark.

This is incorrect. The times never change. The tearoom has always opened for service at 2:00pm. I would call and change your reservation.

Do they hold anything else in the yea room other than tea?? If not then there is a possibility that Dec times can be different

We have been going in December for at least 18 years (as well as every month between September and April, plus July) and it has never opened before 2:00.

I think it would be easier for you to just book this online. There is availability on your chosen date. Look for Afternoon Tea in the reservations list.
