I know this has been discussed before but I can't find it.

If you take an afternoon break & then return to a park, what is the minimum about of time you would want to give yourself to make the break time worth it?

We give ourselves enough time for a 60-90 minute nap at the resort.
We allow 30-40 minutes for the resort trip, each way.
Then, we return to the same or a different park.

We take our breaks during the hottest part of the day, in the non-winter months.

4 hours to be safe...getting from park gate to room took about an hour for us several times, although we do have an internal bus.

Too many factors to consider for a pat answer. Are you staying in a resort close to a park? Do you have little ones? What are you going to do during your break? Swim, nap, watch cartoons? We have been known to leave the park and get back to the room in 15 minutes, put on out swimsuits and spend about 45 min. at the pool, take a shower and be back at a park in 1 1/2 hours. If you are staying at an Epcot resort, no transport required if you are at Epcot or HS so you could do the whole turn around in a hour. Or you could spend 2 hours at the pool, etc. You could be at a bus resort and the bus stop be totally empty and the bus just arrive when you get there. Or you could be at a bus stop and wait 30 min for the bus. Figure at least 2 hours and go from there.

Is there anywhere at the parks where you feel like you could get the same "refreshed" break besides going back to your hotel? Like, would a TS restaurant do that or hidden corner somewhere?

In MK you can take a short break in COP. It has AC and is low impact. I once fell asleep during the experience. It doesn't last very long but can be somewhat recharging. And i do believe that a TS restaurant can work as well as long as it is not very noisy and busy. It would give you a chance to relax a little bit.

Count on at least 4 hours for a true break. We usually leave the park at 1:00 and return at 5:00 or six, depending on park hours.

I just play it by ear if I take a break but I also rarely have a dinner adr planned so it really doesn't matter if I make it back from my break. I like doing adrs for lunch, that just works better for us.

For me personally I need the break from the parks to get out of the heat and crowds. We have the hopper, so we will sometimes change plans and go to a different park that is less crowded.

I count travel time to and from the resort as part of my break - usually ends up being around 3 hours total. A half hour to 45 minutes getting there, an hour to an hour and a half either snoozing or swimming and then I clean up and go back to whatever park I choose.
For me it's not always about napping any more - sometimes it's just about getting away from the loud crowds for a bit. It's also why I tend to take an afternoon to go to DTD rather than in the evening - much quieter then.

When the kids were little it was 4 hours so they could have the nap time after a swim which they always wanted to do.

4 hours is optimum, maybe a little more if you want to throw some swimming in. But we ended up doing a few 3 hour ones and even that was nice just to get a breather.

We always go in June...hot and crowded. We take about 3-4 hours, get a nap, swim, whatever we need to refresh. Then we go an evening ADR and a park...same as morning or we hop. I can't imagine doing it any other way that time of year.
