First I will say, I am a huge lover of everything Disney. I have been several times as a young child, teenager, young adult and adult.
My husband, not so much a lover, and I will leave it at that.
Case of Characters:
ME (40): Mom to 5 boys, currently SAHM, but just became a very part-time realtor.
DH (41): Dad to 5 boys, we will be celebrating 17 yrs of marriage this June.
Ds1(13): Honor Roll Student, Show Choir Competitor, Boy Scout.
Ds2(11): I call him my "small fry" (he is the same size as his younger brother), but handles himself quite well.
Ds3(9): Surgery Boy. He is like a mini me, which of course is not always good
Ds4(5): My special boy! Has Apraxia (speech), it has been a very long struggle, but the words are coming.
Ds5(3)- I put 3, because he turns 3 March 25th. He is the happiest, easiest going kid ever, even potty trained himself at 2.5yrs!
August 25-Sept 2nd, 2012. Staying at Caribbean Beach.
So the year we had...it was a good one at first, but then June 1st changed it all, when a very large and rare Tornado ripped through Massachusetts. We were hit. All the kids were home and experienced it first hand. Our house was deemed unlivable, and we had to move. At first we rented, thinking we would rebuild. But insurance was (and still is) taking forever. We were renting on the same street, different town, so I spent every morning and every afternoon driving our kids to our house, to catch their bus to school. The summer past, and we decided we needed to get settled, we could not rent (we would be owing someone a house after we left) forever. Now, we also have a Great Dane in tow too. So..we decided on relocating in the same town. We found the perfect house, but the process took until December 16th. We moved in 1 day, literally packing everything in trash bags, on the 17th of December, ran around ordering furniture and getting a tree for Christmas. WE had Christmas in our new house, it was perfect.
I had been tossing around the idea of a Disney Vacation for over a year. Then on February 10th, I ended up in the ER with Ds3, turned out a ruptured appendix, which required surgery, then it burst, which required a week long stay in the children's hospital. So it was back and forth for us for 7 nights, switching off who stays.
At the hospital, I said we need a vacation and Ds3 said, Disney, I was not about to argue, the boy said we need to go, so be it!
Onto the planning... I was obsessing over whether or not Free Dining would come out, when. Then I got the e-mail for Visa Card Holders, and through Mouse For Less, so booked it. Not without hesitation, I mean 5 kids, 3 of them are now "disney adults", plus 2 adults, 2 little ones, 2 rooms. DH is not happy about the time of year, he hates the heat, he hates crowds, he hates the cost. But really is he going to argue with the 9 yr old who just had surgery, nope. Plus booking with Mouse For Less, I get FREE Stuff too. Who does not like free neck wallets! I used them in 2005 and liked that I did none of the calling, I just don't have enough time to sit on the phone with little ones around me.
I So booked a trip, I did. At first it was All Star Movies, Preferred Room (dh likes close to the food court), 2 rooms, upgraded to Regular Dining, as we like having a sit down meal everyday. Truth be told, I like to be served and get a hot meal, while not having to carry the little kids stuff or drinks or whatever. But really we eat at home together, so it is a must. Then through my conversations with myself, while dh listened. He is now asking about the pool, "what only one?", and bus stop farthest away from the park exit, HOW MUCH TO UPGRADE.
While the cost was more (in my eyes alot more), apparently for my NonDisney loving husband, these were important to him.
So, next morning the first one up is Ds3 (surgery boy), so I let him pick the resort. He chose Caribbean Beach, which worked for me, we stayed there on our honeymoon. Now it has a Pirate Themed pool, not sure if it did in 1995, since we never visited the main pool, but it should be fun. On our reservation is a request for Jamaica, as it is closest to food court without paying the preferred price. I think anyway.
Onto table service meals, kids gave me their preferences, and I booked them all. August 25th is when Ds4 turns 6, so with that being said, we are doing Chef Mickey's, we have never been and hoping it will be a great way to start the trip.
Next up, trying to find a reasonable flight... because apparently my non loving disney husband, who does not want to spend a lot of money, also does not want to drive. Fine by me.. more to come as the planning and obsessing continues.
