After the Half Marathon

Me too! I really hope I do well.

One thing to consider, if WDW is going to be your first race: Sometime in the next couple of months, try to enter a 5k or 10k race, just so you have practice running in an event, putting on a timing chip, fastening the bib, and so forth.

As for putting on a chip, Disney has left using ChampionChip and using the new "D" Tag disposable chip. It is totally different so that won't help. They have to be put on a certain way and you won't get a chance to see until the expo. Just an FYI.

Darlin, post race recovery from the Goofy is to party with a few hundred of your friends. Then you do the Iluminations party that Liz hosts. Go home and sleep and repeat the party the next day but this time you do it all day.

Oh yea ride something to. I personally recommend the Magic Kingdom after dark, all the tourists are lined up for the parade leaving the rides vacant and they have a whole new look after dark.

Party Panda:hippie:

Yeah, forgot they switched to the D tag. I ran some chip races last year, some tag, and really, the tag is not so different from the chip. Either way, it would probably still be a good idea to have a couple other races under your belt (of a shorter length) - just as a confidence booster, if nothing else.

I agree you should find a local race to know the experience of race day. While a local 5K won't be as big as a Disney event it will give you the experience of lining up and stretching out and everything else that goes along with race day. It will also give you the experience of running in a group and how to avoid slower runners and faster runners.

The D-tags are getting more and more popular at the local races. Last year one of the local organizers switched to them but this year there is only one group left that uses the old chips. I recommend going to Active and finding a local race. Many times there will be a link to the race site and many times it will state if the races uses a D-tag or a chip.

Thanks for the info! I will look into one around here. :thumbsup2

I agree that it is best to keep moving. After my first half I made the mistake of laying down...bad move. I usually get done about 7:30 so I make a character breakfast reservation as late as I can. I go back and shower and if I have to, ice the feet. I haven't had to do that after a WDW race fortunately.

Then I spend the day enjoying the parks. The next time I am down will be for the full so I don't know if I will get any character meals in. It won't be the goofy though so maybe I'll work the WISH water stop and then do a breakfast.

Frank: Will we see you marathon weekend 2010?? Hugs to Mom and Bro!

No, unfortunately not. I am aiming to do the coast to coast in 201 though.

On a side note, has the civil war made it to Savannah yet?

Bummer that we'll miss you. We're doing the Coast to Coast 2010 for our ten year wedding anni.

As for "The War of Northern Aggression," are you kidding me? It never left our beautiful city.

I mean who wouldn't want this for a Christmas Present:

Nice present I guess. At least now I know what to send if the message I'm trying to get across is "Sorry about the fire but thanks for the cheap labor". :lmao:
