Hi,

I just wondered whether it was possible to book a 1 person on a cruise using points and pay for 1 person ? :confused3

We are thinking about the 10 night med cruise.

Just wondered if I pay DVC or DCL the 2 x $500 deposits?

If it is possible how would I go about it - We would have to borrow from next years points to do this. So can I pay the 2 deposits and then later change to pay 1 with points?

Any help / advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

I THINK (I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong) you can book a cruise with cash and then convert to points at a later date. So you could just book, pay the two deposits, and then convert one person to cash whenever. I think your plan will work out fine.

Normally one can do one person points and others cash as long as you do an adult points. I know some have been able to convert a cash reservation to points and keep the same cabin. However, I'd suspect this is the exception rather than the rule. Esp if the cruise were sold out otherwise. The points table is on the website for these options.

They already have the points for the Mediterranean cruises posted?

For the 10, 11 day Met and for the transatlantic, all for 2007.

I was told that if you book one on points and one on cash thru MS, you have to pay the cash ressie all at that time!

Better to book thru DCL and then convert at a later date.

I phoned DCL today and they said that I would not be able to do this ie book then convert into points?

Looks like im going to have to find the money for 1 person by next week !

I know it's been done. I suspect it's not officially a conversion but a new reservation where they were able to work it so the member kept the same cabin. But there is no guarantee this will work out. Remember there are a number of other negatives booking points or points plus cash through DVC compared to booking cash directly. Check out the cash price through DCL and compare to the cash component through DVC. Checking around, I'm not sure they're actually booking that cruise yet. I looked at the main cruise site I use for info and DCL. But lets say it would be 340 points pp and $2500 for the other person for a cat 11. And if you book cash directly, it might be $2000 pp times 2. If you book cash you could cancel up until late for no penalty. If the price went down, you'd get a refund. If you changed your mind about the cabin, no direct penalty.

I was also considering this. Booking the room throught DCL and applying a deposit and then at a later date (when I have all the $$) convert the current resv to DVC. The only thing can you book this over 11 months ahead? Has this changed?

With this being a 'special ' cruise DVC said they are not using the 11 month rule . So yes!

Thank you for your quick response.

I had just called DVC and and questioned them since you dont have the $$ for the 2nd person and you want to do your resv with DVC points (1st person points and 2nd person cash) you could make a resv (w/o points) though DCL (sorry no DU/TA) and when you have the $$ for the 2nd person then you can call DVC and they can convert that resv and save your room # from 1st person points and 2nd person cash. You have to do this prior to paying off the cruise.

I called about this too. The only problem about booking both cash and then transferring it to DVC as 1 on pts and 1 on cash is that DVC may not have the same category available on the date you want. They said they have a certain # per cruise. That is a big drawback paying one cash up front. But I also don't want to get stuck paying 2 on cash and missing out as I can't do that and would have to cancel.

So, I think it's one cash up front and 1 on pts.

:rotfl2: Darn I hope that doesnt happen!!! I hope they have a waitlist if this happens!! So I guess when you have the $$ call them ASAP and see what happens. :woohoo: . I like you dont want to pay 2 people on cash when I could have saved the $$ for the 1 person. This cruise is very expensive.
