After TCD..who's next?

Firstly I'd like to pass on my sympathies to those who have lost out on their hildays after the TCD/XL debacle......I wouldn't wish these circumstances on anyone...hopefully folks will be able to find alternatives.....

The point of my post is.....with the uncertainty surrounding the whole travel sector at the moment is it safe to book with any of the smaller operators at the moment.
Who will be next?
Globespan?
Monarch?
I know there are some knowledgeable DISers around who may be able to offer some kind of reassurance........
Any updates on the next likely victim of the economic problems?. Who should we be carefully thinking about booking with?

Hiya honey...I've been hiding and trying to detox myself from Disney

This year wasnt great but could have been worse ....... trying to arrnage for just the two of us next april...no-one else for a change (fingers crossed)

Just checking prices at the moment and there are some god flight prices for next year at the moment.......
We've made a new friend who stays just outside Tampa who has extended an open invitation to stay wohoo!!!!!

Now she is working on a plan to get us out there to live!!!!!! Hopefully this will be the start of a wonderful friendship.......

I'd agree that Globespan in particular could be next. The point to make is ALWAYS pay by credit card and as soon as 'rumours' start(as they had done about XL) then don't even think about booking with them.
I would also say this is a good argument for not booking flights months and months ahead, particularly if you have to pay more than a small deposit

ok, as far as I'm concerned i wouldn't book with any part of the Allbury group, flyglobespan and I'd be very wary of independants like Longwood. In fact we have deracked these products from our shelves.

I need to book flights only for next year. Who would be best to book with??
I have been reading all about booking flights only with a travel agent but i am still not too sure that i understand it. How am i covered if they then book direct with BA for example for me?

We have booked with Virgin Holidays for June '09. I think they are very safe and I am not worried in the slightest.

why do we in the uk not have the facility to use something like chapter 11 in the states.this would have protected people who were flaying with XL companys while they could have sorted things out.with our bankcrupcy laws ant credite can fold a company by calling a loan.this hapened with XL think wa the football team owner whom they sponceed

We've always booked with Virgin,I think we'll be sticking with the bigger names BA,Or Virgin for future holidays,purely as I hate what has happened of late happen to us I'd be devastated,I feel so bad for them stuck in the middle of this.
I do believe flyglobespan might be next or even not its hard to predict.

If you book flight only through a travel agent they would almost certainly book the flight through a consolidator agent, that way you are covered through the consolidator as well as the travel agent (double coverage through ATOL and ABTA!), yes you may pay a bit more for the flight but you are paying for the insurance and service as well

I'm really worried now, we normally book with Virgin but this year have broken from the tradition and booked a fly drive with First Choice, just hope they don't go under too.

First Choice are part of the Tui group now I think, so you should be safe, as that group is huge.

Our big trip each year is normally april and have been looking at rices. BA is by far the cheapest so will probably take the safest course of action and book with one of the biggies......

Flying with Globespan in November and fully paid. Time to cut and run ??? Just pay the cancellation charges and rebook with another carrier ??? At least we will get a holiday this way - but at a price.
