BLT decor threads," I am wondering why people feel such a need to voice a dislike for any one particular DVC resort for whatever reason--decor, location, amenities, etc., etc.? Why do some people feel the need to post their dislike in each and every thread that is started?

I respect each and everyone's right to either like or dislike any resort, be it DVC or not, but once an opinion has been expressed, why repeat it over and over and over? Do people think that by repeating themselves that they are going to change someone's mind that does like the resort to begin with or are they really trying to convince themselves that they don't want to purchase at that resort?

I have to say that I had not even read that thread because I thought it was another one about not like BLT for one reason or another.

It is hard to understand how a resort can be so disliked without anyone having even stayed there. There is a resort I really don't like, but I have at least stayed there and can truly make informed decisions.

There is just as much bashing as there is celebrating a favorite resort, etc... The great thing about the DIS is that it's a place for all of us to find others who share our opinions, positive or negative. They are only opinions after all. I love our home resort SSR, but there have been many threads that "bash" it. I choose not to read those threads just like you have chosen to not read some of those BLT bashing threads. So I suppose it's all about "to each his/her own" and it's fun seek out others who love BLT (or any fav resort) just as much as you do!

Don't be sorry! It just illustrates that there is the perception out there that some of the bashing is a bit silly! As you said, it isn't even open yet, nobody has stayed there, etc. Those threads are not for comparison sake (as in, pros and cons of buying). Some of them seem emotionally driven and display a "glad I don't own there" vibe.

meh I don't mind people voicing their thoughts and opinions as long as their not trying to sway mine. I think stating your feelings about disney's designs can be good and may help the company to make designs that suit more tastes better, or, more importantly, give the company to rectify a flaw they may have overlooked that they don't see but the guests do.

If people want to "bash" my beloved VWL or AKV - I say let them voice their opinions to the world ... to me it's just one less family competing for that same vacation slot and perhaps they'll convert a few folks with them

You know your are right RweTHEREyet. I had not thought of it that way and I must plead guilty for pre-judging BLT. Also, there is no need to keep saying over and over again what we don't like without actually checking it out. I think I will wait to see actual comments in the forums from those that have stayed at BLT and our family will also check it out for ourselves.

This is a discussion forum and people do come here to express their opinion.

I can say that while SSR is nice, it really doesn't cut it for me and I don't want to go back and stay there again. That's just my personal opinion and I think I can say that without being accused of bashing SSR.

I think the issue is the general tone of a few of the posts.

I am with you on this! I own at the dreaded SSR. Although I prefer VWL and AKV, I don't bash my home or anyone elses for that matter because everyone has different tastes. That's why Disney has different themes to appeal to all likes. We bought SSR and HH because it was more bang for the buck. Although I don't own at some of the more popular resorts, I am grateful that we are able to own into DVC and that my family gets to vacation 2 or 3 times a year at Disney regardless of what resort we are staying in.

I have been waiting for BLT to be announced since they first started the asbestos removal and right now I truly love the way the decor looks. I really want to see for myself, so we are making a quick trip down in early October just to see the models. Who knows, I may come away saying "What was I thinking?", but I really hope not. I would love to think there might be something to see about the THV, too.

I don't understand why people get so upset or defensive about subjective matters. It would be a nightmare if every single owner preferred for instance BWV over every other DVC resort, as everyone would be competing for those villas.

We all have different motivators - required number of points, location, theme, decor, etc etc etc. I will rarely change my opinion based on what I read online - I may however tend to change it based on what I personally experience. I have often said that I don't really fit in on this website - I am so different in outlook and beliefs and personal experiences from what is often the 'norm'. But I take what I want and leave the rest.

I'm happy for you RWe that what you wanted is a reality, and please don't let anyone else's opinion impact your pleasure. It is what YOU wanted, and what YOU like. Enjoy it. I mean that very sincerely...

Hey there my friend. Please understand that I don't fault anyone for expressing their opinions/thoughts, etc. and am really glad that not everyone likes or wants to own or stay at the BLT--that just means less competition for the same rooms. What I have a problem with is when someone needs to post the same stuff on each and every thread. Once someone goes on record, why say it again and again and again and again.

I personally don't care for the darkness of the WLV, but I don't jump on every thread about WLV and say the same thing over and over. While I love the WL and it's lobby itself, the WLV are too dark for my taste.

Usually we don't see this amount of negativity towards a resort until after it has opened, so maybe that is why all this has caught my attention.

I am guessing that the duvets weren't enough to do it for you?

And by the way, we are still waiting for you to make it to our neck of the woods.

In fact, I have come to realize that I DON'T LIKE ONE OF MY HOME RESORTS ANYMORE very much. No big deal. It won't kill me to stay there.

Now, I do have a question. How does the pig represent BLT? Is it the 'bacon' element? or is it because you had to save a lot of pennies to buy there? or.... ???

To me the DIS is a place to express opinions as well as information and I don't have a problem with those opinions and don't take it as bashing - just opinions. I often say in everyday life that it's a good thing that we're not all the same and see this as the same thing.

You mentioned that you hadn't read the one thread already discussing this and that may be why some people reply the same thing over and over - not all threads get read by everyone. If I've seen the reply from someone before I just skip it b/c I know what it says and head on to the next - no big deal. And it may be that that "extra" bashing keeps a thread going and helps someone else make a decision if they see an opinion similar to their own - or something is pointed out that they hadn't thought of.

What about those that reply the same thing repeatedly but it's not a negative opinion? No difference in my mind and the poster is just participating in the boards.

Now.....back to that bashing of VWL.....we've gotta talk! JK - again.

I think it must be that for so long--before the official announcement--it was nicknamed "BLT" so I think it must be the bacon aspect. I have to admit I chuckled when I realized what it stood for! (At least, what I THINK it stands for!)

I was feeling so badly about the negative responses I couldn't even bring myself to respond. I just kept saying to my DH that I have never seen so many negative people on the DIS boards as there have been since Tuesday (the announcement). It wasn't so much "WHAT" they were saying as much as the tone they were using. One of the aspects of Disney Resorts that I love is the diversity amongst the different resorts. To each their own I suppose. I choose to put a positive spin even on things that don't thrill me. It's just who I am.

I think the issue is like DVCMike stated, it is more the general tone of a post or thread. I for one think it is a valuable resource to not only DVC owners, but more importantly to those looking to buy into DVC to hear what the likes and dislikes about the various resorts are. Pros and Cons, every resort has them. The only difference is what point of view do you come from and how does that affect what is a pro or a con to you. For example, a person who drives to WDW may love OKW or SSR and being able to park next to their room, while one who flies to WDW and does not have a vehicle may not like that at all.

The tone of a thread turns nasty when one goes too far with their comments. We have all seen the comments about SSR owners being forced to buy there because that is all Disney had for sale, about how most of the SSR owners hate it and want to sell, and now the same is said for AKV owners. We've read comments about certain resorts being afterthoughts or poorly thought out and how one would never stay in those resorts. Those comments, to me, go over the line.

It is my hope that if we don't like a resort, we state what it is that we don't like and leave it at that. I think it is fair to state that the decor of a resort doesn't appeal to you, but don't add any other comment such as you don't know who in their right mind would like that decor.

It probably doesn't help that right now we have all of these political ads and bashing going on (and being from Iowa, we've been flooded with these for about two years!). It is my hope that all of us can continue to be a good source for members and prospective members by simply stating our likes and dislikes and leaving it at that.

I think it is the bacon thing, but not really sure. I didn't create them, but I thought most of them were really cute, so I thought I should use the ones for each of my home resorts. I wish something else had been used, other than the pig, but I understand there are not a lot of choices to be had with this style of graphic, so, BLT got the pig.

And please understand, it doesn't matter to me that someone doesn't like BLT, really it doesn't. Heck, I might not like BLT after I see the models in person, but that is why I am gonna go down and check out the models in a couple of weeks. And I am more than sure that the resorts I don't care for doesn't mean anything to anyone but me, it shouldn't any way.

Not liking a resort including anything and everything about it and saying so is not resort bashing. It may or may not be appropriate for a given thread, it would depend on specifics. If one starts the thread and follows the other guidelines for posting, it is obviously appropriate for that thread.
