we have decided to drive instead of fly. :drive: We will save a lot of money and it will be more fun looking at the scenery and things. We have driven to Myrtle Beach a couple of times and it was fun. We have two boys ages 8 and 11 and they keep themselves occupied between the DVD player, ipad, travel games, etc..Also we wont have to worry about delays and sitting in an airport for hours (like last time we took a plane) Of course there will be traffic but after a lot of thinking we think driving is the way to go. PHEW! That's one decision made....

We always drive. Gives the kids a chance to check out different states and see things they wouldn't get to otherwise. It's about a 16 hour drive for us so we usually stay overnight somewhere on the way so we always do a bit of exploring in a new city as well.

Have fun and be safe!!

Just curious where you're driving from?

We did this drive last summer from NY state and it was a tight squeeze for 5 of us. My mom lives very near Myrtle Beach so we did the drive to her house on day 1. Picked her up and did the rest of the drive on day 2. Day 2 was cramped with 5 of us in a Dodge Charger but we made it and saved a boatload!

We could never do it, lol. But, we also hate being in the car for longer than 2 hours and driving to Disney would be a 24 hour drive for us!!

We're driving for the first time in November. I'm nervous as the farthest we've ever driven was about 6 hours and this will be 16 but we just can't afford airfare for our family of 8 and still have the vacation that we would like to have.

Good luck!

We live in upstate NY and have done the drive 3 times. We're flying for our trip next week. I have vowed to never drive that far again. It's just a pain in the butt. It's a little cheaper to drive but IMO worth spending the little extra to get there in a few hours. Drive safe!

We always drive. It's usually cheaper and I hate to fly. Loathe.

Our kids are great travelers. They get a "travel bucket" every trip stocked with new things like activity pass and other things I pick up at Target dollar spot, Five Below etc. there's always new movies, snacks, a bottled water, new DS game, ITunes card. We do "what Disney movie/ride is this song from?" From my Disney playlist. We play Bingo etc.

We drive. It's right at 8 hours drive time for us, plus stops but we don't mind it. Even with just 3 of us we save a ton. To get decent airfare we would have to drive a couple of hours to a major airport anyway.

If it was only an 8 hour drive for us we would be there all the time! lol. Thank goodness we aren't!! :)

We drove this past Christmas from upstate NY. We all agreed it wasn't so bad. It was 18.5 hours for us and we avoided most traffic by going South via Pittsburgh instead of down 95. What made the return trip lots of fun was that we stayed at Great Wolf Lodge on the way back in North Carolina. Gave us something to look forward to instead of just a long sad ride home.

We always fly, we talk about driving, but I just can't do it. DH has very little time off and we don't want to spend 3 or so days of his time off driving, I would think the drive down would be fun, exciting, anticipation, but the drive home would stink!! We are from St Louis so I think our drive is about 15 hours.
