Pretty much this. I was at the front and a couple of lamp posts obstructed a tiny bit of the view.

I've always chosen the middle, mid section near the fenced cirlcles, but tried the back last week just to see and people are right, it's much better! You do have to be there early to get right on the fence, especially if you want the middle. You can't go too far to either side before your view is blocked somewhat by lamposts though.

Do you go out and stake your spot then eat afterward, or do they wait until closer to fireworks to open up the garden area? Thanks!!

When I went, the viewing area was open by 7 or 7:15.

The After Fireworks & Plaza Garden parties share the same area (there's usually plenty of room for both though might vary depending on how crowded both parties are). That of course means while Plaza is gnoshing on desserts, After Fireworks essentially get first dibs on the area. So yes, After Fireworks means you get to stake out a spot and then after you view the show, you go back to gorge on dessert.

Our party opens at 5:00 for 6:30 fireworks, so would they open the garden around 5:30?

When we do the before party ( usually do the after party lately), we go directly to the viewing area as soon as we're done. We did this a couple of weeks ago, had DAH tickets so didn't want to waste event time eating and the dead center spot was already taken- we still got a great view on the back fence, but that center spot goes quick. It's one reason we like the after party better. When I'm paying that much mostly for the view, I want the best I can get and with the after party, we're there before the people at the before party get there. Unless you're like me and super picky about your spot, there is always enough room to get a good view.
