Back in December 1999 we made our first 200 points contract at DWV and over the next 6 years added another 150 points. But with all the changes, IMHO not for the better, over those years we started selling our points a couple years ago and as of today we're no longer owners of DVC, our last contract has closed at the title company. So I just wanted to say thanks for all the information that I've been able to gather from this site that has helped with managing things. And yes, I'll be careful of that screen door on the way out.

Did ever consider renting your points before you sold? I’m not sure what DWV resort ? BWV or Boulder Ridge but both of those would be easy to rent out. But since you have sold all your contracts that’s a moot point.

I agree that these boards are a wealth of information.

Take care.

We've rented a number of times in the past but at this point we just wanted out. Don't have to worry anymore about the annual dues increases and the 2042 end date that in the big picture isn't that far away.

There is a season for everything in life and I hope you made some wonderful memories with those points over the last 24 years.

My guess is that you bought the Disney World Villas (now OKW) at around $65pp and paid $120pp in dues over the life of the contract. $185pp all in less $100pp at resale means that you paid around $85pp over the life of the contract, or $3.50pp/year INCLUDING inflation. That does not include some of the early fringe benefits like discounted tickets/merch/passes. I’d be thrilled if I make out anywhere near as good!

I’m also hopeful that the people who purchased the contracts from you are thrilled to do so and will make wonderful memories over the next 18 years. It may not be what it was in 1999, but many families, including my own, are excited to travel to Disney in 2023 and stay at DVC.

If it was the WDW of old, where you didn't need a doctorate in park planning and the in park/ticket prices weren't so high, yes. We loved having the kitchen and laundry that 1BR/2BR/GV's have and all that extra space. Plus being able to share the experience with friends and family was something we wouldn't' have been able to do without having DVC. Picture 022.jpg

You are not alone. I’ve been a member since 2007, and have sold off my contracts gradually over the last couple of years. Down from 450 points, to now a lowly fixed week contract at 118 points. It is such a different Disney now than 15-20 years ago. Don’t know how long I will keep this last contract. It was a good ride.

We still enjoy the resorts. The parks have become secondary for us. I think what will convince us to sell is when all the employees we enjoy seeing when we return have moved on. Quite a few moved on when the pandemic ran its course. Now we're down to enjoying old friends and catching up. When out friends move on then so might we.

I hear Chapek installed a plastic door to help cut costs of the screen tearing. Rumor is Iger will replace it with an imaginary door that will never be installed.
Chapek was happy you left. You're not the "right" kind of customer. He did not want loyal, committed, regular customers. He wanted families that came once every 5-10 years and spent more dollars per day than you did...... All about the analytics.

We did the same thing, but it was based on Disney cutbacks in general, not just DVC.
I would love to think Disney was as it always was, but I lost my rose colored glasses.
It’s NOT the same company it was in 2000…

You mean the death by a thousand cuts? Yea, from the little things like getting rid of the salt/pepper shakers in the kitchens to valet parking for DVC guests, getting rid of the Country Bears Christmas overlay for example, yea just little things but they add up over the years.

I am glad you had some wonderful trips and memories. We also are long-time members and have enjoyed lots of memorable trips. We never had any regrets until recently when WDW became a place we often didn’t recognize anymore. We are hoping for the best and have decided we are in it for the long haul, but I certainly understand your decision.

I will probably try to get rid of my 2042's in about 5 years or so. It depends on what I am doing and feeling like. I still have lots of points at other resorts that don't expire then.

We just sold our SS contract but still have 2 BCV contracts of 150 points each. I can see that in the not too distant future we will be looking(thinking ) of selling. I have to agree there have been too many negative changes to overlook. Especially annual passes not being offered to DVC. Now we go to the resorts and never go in the parks. Thanks Disney for making my vacations very inexpensive.

I can totally understand. I just said to my husband last week that DVC really isn’t worth it anymore. With the specials being offered it’s a better deal. The maintenance fees keep going up and price of tickets etc. it just isn’t the same. The little extra perks have gone by the wayside and it’s just sad. Glad you have some wonderful memories!
