After 2042, what happens to DVC resorts?

Another thought comes to mind. Since the Disneyland infastructure is still basically sound after almost 50 years, what do you suppose will happen to all of the DVC resorts by 2042? Will they start to re-sell the resorts when it gets within a few years of all the expirations, or do you think they will have so many more resorts built by the time, that once all the contracts expire, they will take these resorts down and build new ones in their places? I often wonder what happens to most other time shares that have lifetime memberships.

They disappear in a puff of smoke---POOF!

Seriously, it is a situation which Disney will have to deal with. If they end up with all those extra rooms on the open market at one time it will really depress prices (Supply vs. Demand). Disney rarely, if ever, does anything that ends up lowering prices significantly.

The new end date for SSR is probably just the first step in a larger solution.

As it stands now, your deed and interest in DVC are worth nothing after traditional DVC "doomsday". The lease that DVD holds to the properties expires and control of the resorts revert back to The Disney Co. Disney is free to do with the properties whatever they see fit. There's speculation that DVD may get extended leases on the properties and offer "add-on" years to current DVC members.... But that's pure speculation.

I am really going to start losing sleep over this right around 2041.:smooth:

News flash: The Disney executive who will make the decision on what will happen to the properties in 2042 was born last week at Hoag Memorial Hospital in Newport Beach, California. So far, she has not made a decision.

And it's probably true!

I think current DVC owners will be given a chance to purchase more years and extend the resorts.

If timeshares are still a viable entity in 2042, I think Disney will bulldoze down all current DVC resorts, build new resorts with features appropriate for the building codes and needs in 2042 and resell as brand new resorts. ( They will be phased in and not all raized and rebuilt at the same time- they'll be used for cash reservations during that time.)

If timeshare ownership has gone out of vogue by then, they will remain as Disney resorts- available for cash reservations.

If I'm wrong, I'll buy drinks for everyone who disagrees. Meet you at the Gurgling Suitcase at OKW on February 1, 2042. I'll be 94 and will wear a DVC cap and lime green ribbon!

See you then! :smooth:

OK, I'll be 93. I'll buy the snacks.

Ill be 75 then and will most likely be able to remember more than you's who will be in your 90's. So vote for me as president. lol

I'll be 76--and settle for being happy and healthy then. I will be happy to attend the final DVC reunion at that time with all of you!

Hopefully us old DVC'ers(85 then) will be able to move out of the way when they start bulldozing.:(

I'll be 95. I'm already threatening my wife that one day she'll come home and find me wearing those plaid golf trousers and a jaunty cap. She retorts that if I do, she'll go out and buy a pair of glasses with upward swoops in the corners, and wear them over a lot of sweaters in the summertime. Now you know how to recognize us in 2042. See you there!
:jester:

I'll be 91 and am looking forward to a really neat DIS/Geritol party at the Gurgling Suitcase at OKW on February 1, 2042.

Lets start a count down timer.

Bet there will be a high demand for Handicap rooms and a premium on Wheel chairs. Complaints on the board will be about not getting a HC room.

I wonder if they will have a special all soft food menu at Olivias.

A new transportation service called Tiffany Wheelchairs.

Should be fun, will see ya all there.

1) I am sure she will thoroughly investigate the alternatives.
2) I am sure she will make the right decision.
3) I am sure the decision will be based upon sound business.
4) I am sure it might have some concern for current DVCers
5) I am sure the business case will be viable and wise.

6) I am sure Eisner will countermand anything she decides.

Too funny! :teeth:
I'll bring the blender to liquefy the pretzels, but someone else is responsible for the straws and bibs!
