AFO/leg brace question

For those of you who wear leg braces, or have kids that wear them. When do you get them replaced? I've had mine since 2002, and have replaced the calf strap and padding inside the brace once. However, I've noticed that it's starting to crack in some areas of the brace itself where the hard part is. I'm going to see the brace person on Friday who originally fitted me for the brace to see if I need a new one. My calf strap is starting to wear out as well.

My son uses bilateral AFO's.

Since he's still growing, we replace his quite frequently.

If the brace itself is cracking, it will be unable to provide the needed support and should be replaced.
