Are there any moderate resorts that can accomodate a family with 2 adults, 4 kids + baby? The ASMU family suites seem to be fully booked for the last week of October, we could take 2 rooms but I´m still wondering what other options might be available to us.:goodvibes

Have you looked into the Fort Wilderness cabins? One of my 8th grade students comes from a large family, and they always stay at the cabins. I have looked at the pics on various websites and they seem large and roomy. I just looked up the prices and they seem to be around $300 a night which would be cheaper than two rooms at a moderate.

Thanks, but that´s still more than we´re willing to pay. That´s why I was hoping there were rooms at some of the moderates which could accomodate all of us in one room.

The only mod that accomodates more than the "standard" four people (Port Orleans Riverside) will still only take 5.

For six of you (baby won't "count") your only options other than the All-Star suites are two regular connecting rooms at the All-Stars (to keep in your budget).

We have 6 kids and we have stayed in the Values (Pop and All Star Music) with connecting rooms. It actually is nice. There are two bathrooms and plenty of space.

Have you been able to make a reservation for connecting rooms? I mean do they guarantee that you get them, or could you end up in rooms on seperate floors or even buildings?

No, it is not a guarantee-- just a request.

I was told when we made the reservations that due to the age of the children (all 12 and under) and the fact that there were only 2 adults, the connecting rooms were guaranteed. We have had no problem (2 trips).

Although, I have read others on these boards who were not so lucky. But we have reservations at POP again in Sept. for 2 connecting rooms and I am not worried.

That´s good to know. Thanks!

The Family Suites are the least expensive of the rooms that sleep 6.

Next least expensive option would be the cabins at FW.

CSR has a Junior Suite that sleeps 6 but those cost more than 2 regular rooms at a mod.

Here are the layouts of rooms that sleep 6:

Family Suites at All Star Music.

Hey Minnie and thanks for these layouts!
I have a very stupid question:

How does the Allstar Family Suite sleep 6? On the picture above, I see a queen bed (which sleeps 2) and a sofabed (which also sleeps 2), but what about the rest?

Thanks in advance!

Actually, Disney doesn't 100% guarantee connecting rooms even when it's just one adult traveling with more minors than can be accommodated in one room.
When there are two adults, each adult could, if necessary (i.e. if there are no connecting rooms available) sleep in a separate room with some of the minors.

Even when the confirmation says 'guaranteed', it's not.

Example: A resort has fifteen pairs of connecting rooms available tomorrow night, and twenty parties checking in who requested connecting rooms. Five of those parties CAN'T be placed in connecting rooms.

I know it's nice to stay on property, but if it won't work, have you considered Nickelodeon Suites. they are very close to disney, actually closer than the AK resorts. It's just a bit past Pop. It's a real treat for kids. I know at least 2 families that have taken their children there only for the weekend, and they loved it. We've stayed there 3 times, I would rather stay on property, but Nick is more fun, and a great alternative when Disney has no rooms. Here's a link http://www.nickhotel.com/

I believe there's a convertible chair and ottoman too. So sleeper sofa= 2 bed=2 chair= 1 and ottoman=1.

You are correct.

Family Suite info;

DH and I stayed in a Family Suite at All Star Music ( a value resort) in Sept. of 2006.

We really enjoyed the Queen size bed, the kitchenette with the microwave, having a sofa and cushioned chair to sit on and relax after a day at the parks before retiring for the evening.

I thought the pullouts very comfortable.

They are designed so the back cushion and seat cushion of the pullout support the pullout. There is no metal bar to hurt the sleepers back.

Info thread--Pullouts in Family Suites at ASMU with photos of how the pullout is supported.

Here is the layout of the Family Suites:

ASMusic_FamSuite_layout.jpg

They:

-Sleep up to 6 (plus one child under age 3 in a Pak-n-Play crib)
-Studio amenities and separate sleeping areas giving more privacy than a standard room.
-Queen bed, full-size pullout sofa, convertible ottoman & chair sleepers (4 separate sleepers)
-Private master bedroom and family room have 27” flat CRT TV and high speed Internet access.
-Kitchenette with microwave, small refrigerator (4.3 cu. ft) and coffee pot
-Two-full bathrooms

There are six people in our family. We always get two connecting rooms at a value. I was also told that because of the age of our children we WERE guaranteed connecting rooms and have always been given connecting rooms.

Disney tries hard but Disney does not book connecting rooms as a seperate category. They do NOT block of certain connecting rooms ahead of time.
That means they fill the connecting rooms as the families check in. It is petty much first come first serve until they run out of connecting rooms.

A lot of connecting rooms have a handicapped accessible rooms as one the rooms. If a guest needs a HA room than that guest takes priority over a family who needs connecting rooms.

----------------------------------------------

As a mother of 4 (All grown now. My oldest is in her 30's and my youngest is 22) I often wished Disney had more options for larger families.
When the children were younger and we would go to Disney they did not have DVC or the family suites. In fact Disney did not have a Moderate until CBR opened in the late 1980's so if we wanted to stay onsite we either rented 2 rooms at a deluxe or stayed in the cabins.

I wrote to Disney many times over the years asking for more options for families so when I heard they were building the New Family Suites at All Star Music it just made me so happy!

In the late 80's I booked 2 connecting rooms at CBR for my family.
When we checked in there were no connecting rooms left but we were able to get rooms next to each other on the second floor.
Our two oldest were teens so I put them in one room and the 2 little ones who were 5 and 7 stayed with us. It worked for us because our older children were able to stay in a room without us but if they were younger DH and I would have had to split up.

Disney may say they guarantee connecting rooms but in reality Disney does not guarantee connecting rooms.

If there are 2 adults Disney can split the adults and children into two rooms that are not connecting. They try hard not to do this but it can and does happen sometimes. If however it is one adult with 5 children Disney should try harder to find connecting rooms since some of the children cannot be left in a room without an adult. But if you look at the threads posted below you will see that sometimes even Disney mixes up.

It does happen. Far too often IMHO.

Just wanted to re-iterate what others have said:

We requesting connecting rooms at CBR in January--not really a busy time & we were early for check-in. They did not have us in connecting rooms. They said they could accommodate us, but it would be smoking rooms--which was our #1 request non-smoking.

We were side-by-side, so we just went outside to go next door, so it wasn't a huge deal for us. But if you definitely want to be together--I would go with a suite. You could also look into renting DVC points for a villa.

Here are a couple more threads about guests not getting connecting rooms:

One of the threads that Linda posted a link to was my experience last March. I had many conversations with the higher-ups at Guest Services and was told that even if it says "guaranteed" it is not truly "guaranteed." It just has higher priority over the "requests." Because on a given day, there might only be 25 connecting room sets opening up, but 27 "guaranteed connecting rooms for families" ressies checking in. 2 of those families are not going to get their "guarantee."

I know, I was shocked that we had to fight so hard to get put in rooms that had just been fumigated for lice (they were taken out of the inventory, but re-opened because we insisted we needed rooms.) I sort of assumed that if they didn't have the rooms for us, they'd find rooms elsewhere on Disney property. For that stay, we were sometimes 2 adults and sometimes only 1. Now we will book offsite if we need to do that again. If there are 2 of us adults, we book connecting and hope for the best. Otherwise, we'll split the kids.

My point is to make backup plans if you are depending on connecting rooms.

That is one of the main reasons if my family were young I would choose a Suite over 2 connecting rooms or I would be prepared that I may need to split the family up and sleep in a different room than DH.

I got out my travel documents from last September and it plainly states GUARANTEED CONNECTING ROOM under the hotel reservation. I called again this morning to verifty this topic and the CM told me that if there are only two adults on the reservation and all of the children are minors that they will garantee the connecting room and if something happens when we check in and the hotel we are booked and it does not have a connecting room available, they would just upgrade us to another hotel that does have a connecting room. She said it would be no problem.

AS I said most of time families who ask for connecting get them. We were one of the unfortunate families who did not.
I just want to save others the dissappointment our family went through.

Disney still has not changed the way they book connecting rooms and there are still a few families who are disappointed.

See this recent thread from August 2007:

Has anyone NOT gotten connecting rooms?

http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1551328

1) I have heard many people yell and scream because of no connecting room.
2) They (erroneously) thought they were guaranteed.
3) I was on the receiving end once - I simply turned and walked away.
4) No one swears at me.
