We ( DH, myself and 3 DS, 16, 19 and 22) are going back to Hawaii this summer. Our first three nights are at the Hale Koa in Honolulu, so I have got the "meal thing" wrapped up there. Good food, good prices. We then will be staying at the Hilton Waikaloa Village. Got a great rate BUT the food is expensive so I am looking for some good suggestions for family dining within a 30 minute drive. We have eaten at the steak house at the King's shopping plaza before. I will save Roys for DH and I but would love some suggestions. I also have the same request for Ka'anapali. We will be there for 7 nights. Thanks,

We ate pizza or hot dogs several times at the Costco on the way into town. I haven't eaten there, but my brother loves the Hawaiian Style Cafe in Waimea. I think it's cheap diner style food - big boy eater style.

I'm not sure how long ago you had eatten at the King's Shops, but there is a food court, and a new restaurant there.
If you go to Kawaihai, there is Cafe Pesto, a mexican restaurant...
If you want to drive a bit, there is Waimea, Kohala, and Kailua-Kona that has all kinds of restaurants both sit down, and fast food.
If you need more suggestions and such, just pm me. I'll be happy to help you out.

We go to Honolulu once or twice a year and stay at the Hilton. Out near the jetty near the Hilton is a stationary van.. I belive it is called the Hula Cart ( we have our own nickname for it , that is why I can't remember it's real name) Anyhow I eat lunch there every day. They have chilli and rice , adobo chicken , stew and rice, sandwiches, burgers sno cones, chilli dogs etc. It is very inexpensive not to mention great food. You get a pretty large portion too.
The surfers eat there alonng with other locals. Don't tell anyone else though ok. It is a great secret:D

Another favorite of mine is McDonalds. You get all kind of things you cant get here. Portugese sausage and rice, spam and rice, saimin. Its great eating!

Also try the alo moana food court. I try to stop in there at least once a visit.
Have fun!

I also have the same request for Ka'anapali

Maui, right? My DH ate at a place he really liked but I don't remember the name of it. I can ask him and post it later. He said they had very good food and it wasn't expensive.

Are you thinking of sit down meals or just grab n' go?

Enjoy your trip!:sunny:

You should talk to Dean on the DVC board. He answers a ton of questions about Hawaii every week.

Good luck...Hawaii is very pretty :)

When you are in Oahu, you can also try Cheeseburger in Paradise and Dukes which are both located in Waikiki. They are both kid friendly and Dukes has a variety of foods.

Thanks everyone! We have eaten at Cheeseburger in Paradise in Lahaina and Wailea. Everyone likes it.

We were in Kaanapali Beach in October, just beautiful there. We really liked the restaurants at the Whaler's Village. There were 2 restaurants right on the pathway where you could eat outdoors and either eat of the bar menu (cheaper) or the regular menu. One of the restaurants even had the bar tables set up in a sand box type thing so you could run your toes through the sand while you ate and watched an incredible sunset.

Thinking about this is making me miss Hawaii. We had such a great time on our honeymoon there. I want to go back but I know it will be a long time until we can afford that again.

Have a great trip. Aloha.

Stacey

Can't help with Oahu, but I've been to Maui. Good cheap eats to be had at:
Aloha Mixed Plate in Lahaina (lovely view of the ocean and at night the Old Lahaina Luau goes on next door so you get great music for free)
Maui Tacos--several locations
Barefoot Bar in Ka'anapali (it's also the Hula Grill). It was a GREAT place to eat. I highly recommend it.
Blue Marlin in Maalaea Harbor (near the Maui Ocean Center)
Whale's Tales Bar and Grill in Lahaina across from the banyan tree

You and me both! I was married last year and honeymooned on Maui and the Big Island. This was me when we left:
